Upon the morning of the fifth day at the Bridge of the
Devil, Jske took unto his bosom his chariot driver 'Ordce and
his chariot, and Jerry son of Tullett, their intent to collect
sundry pieces of silver and gold with which to pay the cohort,
thence by devious routes to gather unto themselves a tin,
whereon were insribed many signs and symbols - but it happened
not, for calamity did overtake them --- Upon the first hour
after noon, the chariot of tin together with Jake, and 'Orace
and Jerry son-of Tullett did stop, and did sink slowly into
the ground like as a spoon into a platter of cookhouse porridge.
And they spake one to another, saying - What thing is this that
has come to pass, for have we not a map which shews firm ground,
and see there not 2 league away lies a road, let us get hence -
and on the second hour !fter noon, they were sunk but in another
place and the road was still a league distant, and they were
sore afraid, for tac vultures were gathering, and the Shekels
were heavy ..... And it did come to pass that on the third hour
they became sunken again, but this time, the vultures gave
assistance, and the chariot of tin came from the ground, like
unto s cork from a bottle, and :11 fled...
And many hours later they raturned unto the Bridge of the
Devil, and were gr-cted with loud cheers and cries of Hosannah...
for the cohort wcr- well pleased to see the shekels if naught
else.... -
Verily and in truth, it did also come to pass, that one of
our members did tuxc unto himself a fiance, and from this time
henceforth there 1?: now other rings in the cohort office - unto
both Viv and Barry Turner we extend our good wishes and the hope
that CVCry happine:s will follow.
