It is called the St Francis School, for Handicapped Children and such is its reputation that it has been known for the father of a handicapped child to be posted near it so that the child could attend the school. Ordnance Depot Viersen felt that it would like to support this worthy cause—in fact the daughter of one of the military staff attends the school—and by means of private contributions, raffles etc, the splendid sum of DM1000 (£250) was raised. A cheque for this sum was recently presented to Mrs Carol Scott, currently in charge of the School, by Lieutenant Colonel Tony Rees in the presence of members of the Unit who had been involved. and refreshment facilities and the meeting is an enjoyable social occasion as well as being the Corps premier sporting event, so do please come and support the athletes and meet your friends. To enable adequate provision to be made. Units are requested to advise Headquarters RAOC Training Centre of the numbers attending. Officers' Club members will note that this takes place in the afternoon preceding the Officers' Club cocktail party at the Headquarters RAOC Officers' Mess at Deepcut that evening, as advertised in the April and May editions of THE GAZETTE. Why not come and make a day of it? ON HIS METAL 85 SUPPLY DEPOTS newly designated social facility—The Rochdale Room—witnessed a very well attended and successful evening recently when their Metal Detecting Master Butcher, Staff Sergeant Eric Hunter, conducted an introduction to the hobby. The event featured a talk on the art of metal detecting, accompanied by a display of personal finds and equipment— including British and American detectors, digging implements, and remarkably, a selection of the ' first edition' Ordnance Survey Maps dated 1840! THE OFFICERS CLUB DINNER THE date of the Officers' Club Dinner at Headquarters RAOC Officers' Mess, Deepcut, has been changed to 17th October 1980 to enable all those involved in Exercise Crusader 80 to be available to attend. Catering will be done by Headquarters Mess staff and tickets for the dinner will cost £6.50 each, which is the same as in 1979. STIRLING SERVICE MR VIC GRAY has retired from Regional Depot Stirling. For the past decade he has been OIC PC and A at Stirling and has been in one EO post or another in the Depot since 1961. Vic Gray leaves Stirling Regional Depot. Staff Sergeant Hunter—by name and by nature. Judging by the amount of parcels now arriving at the . Depot marked " electronic equipment—fragile " at least some interest is detected. Staff Sergeant Hunter is very keen to hear from any other members of the Corps who also search for the crock of gold. RAOC OFFICERS CLUB GARDEN PARTY THE present, well understood need for economies, together with manpower shortages, both military and civilian, necessitated consideration of putting the event out to contract, which, it has been estimated, would cost more than £10 per ticket—this was thought to be too expensive. Consequently the DGOS, in consultation with the Colonels Commandant and the Officers' Club Committee, has decided that, in this severe period of austerity, the 1980 Garden Party must, unfortunately, be cancelled. TRAVERS CLARKE ATHLETICS A NOTICE in the March edition of THE GAZETTE announced that the 1980 Travers Clarke Athletics Meeting will be a one day championship to be held at the Military Stadium, Alder- shot on Thursday, 12th June.
