Transcription the second half but Ian Crouch scored a fine opportunist
equaliser when he caught the goalkeeper way off his line to
score a fine goal. Unfortunately, he immedatcly had to retire
because of a back injury received in training the day before
the game. The game now looked as if a draw would be the
end result but with ten minutes to go TAVR once again scored a
well worked goal to run out winners two one.
The Corps team was: Goalkeeper Lance Corporal Trevor
Horn, Defenders Lance Corporal Jock Barr, Corporals Albert
Smart, Paul Grimsley and Private Smudge Smith, Midfield
Corporal Alex Ramage, Captain Wally Auton and Private Dave
Taylor, Forwards Lance Corporals Ian Crouch, Sooty Sutcliffe
and Private Tony Worrell. Subs: W02 Bede Welch, Corporal
Billy Tait and Sergeant Geordie Baynham. Coach: Sergeant
Dodger Allan.
A good team effort which, if it had been produced earlier
in the season, would have ensured much better results against
our old enemies REME and R. Signals.
THE
SOLDIER
MAGAZINE
CUP
OUR photograph shows the Training Centre squash team hold-
ing the Army Inter Unit Squash Cup, known as the Soldier
Magazine Cup having been originally presented by Soldier
Magazine.
All entrants completing their chosen circuit will receive
a medal or diploma and later in the afternoon, when the walk
is over, the marchers will take part in a civic parade through
Chichester with civilian organisations.
Any individual, Service or civilian, can enter. Entry forms
and further details can be obtained from: Secretary, RMP
Chichester March, Roussillon Barracks, Chichester, West Sussex.

The Training Centre Team left to r i g h t — S t a f f Sergeant MacLcan,
Major W o o d l i f f e , Staff Sergeant Botfield, Major Champion,
Q M S I Spree, Staff Sergeant Wallace and Corporal A d a m .
The cup has been won by the RAOC Training Centre and
it is the first occasion an RAOC Unit has won the trophy.
The UK semi-final was played against SEME Bordon when a
four one victory was achieved. In the UK final a convincing
win of five nil against RSME Chatham was followed by a further
five nil victory against the BAOR winners, Headquarters 4
Division and Signal Regiment.
Once again this year the team has won both Division 1 of
the league and the South East District Knockout Cup.
Major Woodliffe is the current Army Veteran Champion
and Major Champion won the Army Open Plate Competition.
Both players represented the Army Veterans against the RAF
and RN to aid Army victories in both matches. Staff Sergeant
Wallace and Corporal Adam also regularly represent the Army.
THE
CHICHESTER
MARCH
FRESH air, fresh fields and a goal to reach are elements that
beckon marchers and a popular annual event that offers all
three is the Royal Military Police and City of Chichester March
that has been arranged this year for Sunday, 10th August.
Nearly four thousand marchers took part in last year's
walk which attracted teams from the British Army, police and
many RAF and Cadet Corps Units, as well as groups from
Holland, Belgium, France, USA, Canada and Germany.
Once again, walkers will have the choice of four routes—
ten, twenty, thirty or forty kilometres—as they have done since
the march was devised two years ago to celebrate the RMPs
centenary year. It is stressed, the event is not a race, walkers
set their own pace.
INTER-SERVICES
MARATHON
THE 1980 Inter-Services Marathon took place at RAF Swinder-
by, Lincolnshire. The twenty six mile three hundred and eighty
five yard race started with nearly three hundred competitors
on a very warm day. RAOC had five runners of whom four
were from the Training Centre and one from Headquarters
BAOR. Staff Sergeant Pete Marsh made his journey from
Germany worthwhile, finishing twenty fourth in two hours
forty four minutes thirty one seconds, Lieutenant Mike Bott
was twenty nincth in two hours forty five minutes forty eight
seconds, Captain Andy Jelly, runner-up in the Veteran class,
was thirty eighth in two hours forty eight minutes thirty six
seconds, Major Chris Brightman fifty fifth in two hours fifty
seven minutes thirty eight seconds and Corporal John Hawkins
completed the course in three hours seventeen minutes fifty
seven seconds. The three officers combined age was one hundred
and fifteen years; is there a moral here?
BAD
WIN
THE
ARMY
CUP
(Continued from page 6)
So Corps history has been made. The first RAOC Unit
to have their name engraved on the magnificent Army Rugby
Challenge Cup and the first team to break up the twenty four
year monopoly of The Duke of Wellingtons Regiment, 1
Battalion The Welsh Guards, and I Battalion RRW. It was a
great team performance, with the back row of Christopher,
Green and Travers outstanding. A special mention must be
made for Dick Travers for this was only his second game of
rugby at number eight, the RRW had no answer to his electrify-
ing pace, also a mention for Skipper Digger Denholm the sole
survivor of Brachts last final in 1975 when he collected the
runners up medal against The Duke of Wellingtons Regiment;
his astute tactical kicking always made sure the ball was kept
in front of his forwards. It was also icing on the cake when
Nigel Starmers-Smith the ex-England international who did a
second half commentary for BFBS radio said it was the finest
Army Rugy Final he had seen. Finally a word of praise for
Major ' Jock' Williamson who can now stop smoking sixty
cigarettes during all the 3 BAD games; he has been the coach
and trainer of the Bracht squad which without his dedication
and direction to rugby in general and Bracht in particular none
of this would have been possible. A big thank you from all
the squad Jock. Long live Heine Muller.
The Team: Corporals R. Tarr, R. Bisson, Sergeant R.
Scott, Lance Corporal W. Powell, Corporals D. Daniels, A.
Green, R. Travers, C. Christopher and R. Lister, WOl G.
Denholm (Captain), Lance Corporal D. Mansfield, SI M.
Shaw, Lance Corporals A. Evans and I. Crawford, Corporal D.
Robertson.
Replacements: Lance Corporals C. Watkins and T. Wrght.
