Transcription right hand man. Staff Sergeant Jim Ball—never mind Tony, this
should be your last one!
Before his imminent departure to the land of plenty it is
time that the rugby achievements of Sergeant Joe Balding were
given an airing. Beginning with Carlisle Rugby Club, whieli
presented little challenge, he was later invited to join l^angholm
at the beginning of last season. After a few second team
appearances he was eventually promoted to the first team and
went on to score in every National League match for Langholm.
contributing considerably to Langholm's promotion to Division 1.
His achievements with Langholm didn't go unnoticed by the
Corps or indeed the Army. He represented the Corps against
RAPC. REME and RCT scoring in the latter two matches
which the Corps won. Total recognition was complete when
he was selected for the Army tour. Well done Joe, like Lang-
holm we will all be sorry to sec you go.
Congratulations go to Corporal Gary Craggs on passing
his AT upgrading course and finally welcome to Staff Sergeant
Dave Couling from Kineton and the return to the fold of
Corpora! Stcrland from his tour in Northern Ireland.

do not collect a two hundred cubic metre credit for total issue.'
However complex the game, the DGOS left us in no doubt as
to the importance of our role in the Storage Rationalisation
Programme. For those interested in statistics we have been trans-
ferring stocks to our sister CODs for nearly twelve months
now and have sent just over fifty four thousand items com-
prising about twenty two thousand cubic metres.
Turning to active sport, our soccer teams are keeping very
quiet. Our usually effervescent correspondent, the RSM, pales
when asked for news and edges away muttering unprintable
remarks about the Bull Cup. Perhaps we might persuade him
to come clean before the cricket season is finished. The
cricketers are working up to enjoy their fixture list if the weather
gives them a chance. Lieutenant John Wood, Staff Sergeant
'Andy' Andrews and Corporal Baker are looking for places
in the Corps XI. Since the last report the hockey team have
reached two finals. The first was in the Ban Clip where after
normal time the score was one all. In extra time we went down
three one to 1 AIDU who incidentally were our first opponents in
the preliminaries and drew with them in that game. We did
not come back empty handed because we now hold the Black-
down Cup for the first time in ten years. The second final was
against 8 Field Workshop REME in the Eastern District Minor
Units Knockout Competition with the REME coming out on
top by three one. Congratulations to the team for a successful
season, and to Corporal Raynor on becoming a Class II umpire.
Chilwell hosted this year's gathering of the RAOC Associa-
tion when we were pleased to see so many Corps personalities
on what will be their last visit to Chilwell in such a group
before the Depot closes. We do not wish to steal the Editor's
thunder any more except to say that we enjoyed our task as
hosting Unit. Perhaps he will allow us also to comment upon
the presence of John Barnwell and the Football League Cup
at the dinner. Just as well the ' Trent End Boys ' did not have
advance information of this privilege to us as the trophy is the
one that got away from Nottingham Forest. We are told that
Forest supporters punish their naughty children by making
them watch video shots of Andy Gray's goal in that great
final.
This month we say a special farewell to Lieutenant Colonel
Tony Beaumont, the Chief Planning Officer, who leaves us to
be CRAOC Western District in Shrewsbury. He has in the
last two years played a very important and successful part in
the planning and execution of the Storage Rationalisation Pro-
gramme as it affects COD Chilwell. We are most grateful to
him for this work and wish him and his family a happy new
life away from the COD scene. Lieutenant Colonel Tony Ward
who comes from Headquarters I (BR) Corps has taken over the
job and we welcome him to our fold.
Central Ammunition Depot Longtown
AS predicted in the previous notes the takeover of the Depot
by 3 BAD is now complete in the form of Colonel Bill Musson
as Commandant and Major Peter Price as SATO. Having been
dined in recently in the Sergeants Mess they are now both
well entrenched in the Depot!
Exercise Elbow Room, the demolition of surplus am-
munition at Redesdale and Eastriggs, begins again in May—
more headaches for our SAT, W02 Tony Dedman, and his

Central Ammunition Depot Kineton
AT the time of writing we have just
received a visit from the new DGOS—
Major General Brown.
Whilst here he presented the Oaklcaf
Emblem to Staff Sergeant Thynne for
Mentioned in Despatches whilst serving
in Northern Ireland and the Long Service
and Good Conduct Medal to Sergeant
Hulme.
Training is now going ahead in
earnest for the forthcoming shooting
season and although Unit commitments precluded us from
entering the CORPSAM we have high hopes of qualifying for
RASAM Bisley by doing well in the Western District Meeting.
The Rock Climbing Club have just returned from an
excellent three days climbing in Cornwall. The club is in
full swing now, holding climbing meets once a month. We
have also had a meet in North Wales, this was a very success-
ful trip, but bad weather really prevented doing anything of
note.
The current meet was held at Bosignin Cliff near St Ives.
Six members took part and were leading Severe to Mild-
Severe standard at the end of the three days. Our next meet
will be in the Peak District. At hockey the Station fielded
teams in the Bari Cup competition at Deepcut but the
opposition was too strong. All who attended however enjoyed
the experience and it was good to see the WRAC members
playing so well when winning a ' friendly' arranged against
the only other ' all girl' team, from Bicester, by two nil.
Whilst with the WRAC—other mentions include W/Privates
Caine and Oates who blazed the trail by being among six
WRAC Supply Specialists to be posted to 3 BAD Bracht in
newly established E3 posts; W/Private Brown successfully
passed the PTI selection board and commences her muscle
course in September.
'A' COMPANY.
'A' Company have done it again, after all
the hard early morning training, the Company Assault Course
'A' team won the Inter-Company Competition and the ' B '
team came fourth.
The DGOS came to see 105mm HE shell being fuzed in
APB 3 and the new Storage Area. We now have a new APB:
APB 12 has been specially built for GW work; it has a few
problems, but after some work by DOE, the GW side will
be hard at work again.
We have had a few promotions this month.
Con-
gratulations go to Staff Sergeant Holmes. Sergeants Myring
and McLelland. Corporals Croft, Buckley, Bond and Lance
Corporal Jarvis.
Welcome to Private Jones (107).
Vehicle Depot Ludgershall
WE say farewell to a month which once again has been a busy
one. It has seen our Volvo Section lead by Staff Sergeant Jell
Patton. return from Norway, no doubt with wonderous stories
which can only originate from being at the sharp end. Never-
theless a big thanks to him and his team for all their hard work,
to ensure RAOC 'stay up front.'
To look at a more humorous side, we found a demand on
Donnington for tissue paper quantity eight thousand. This item
