Transcription What a fertile land we live in, at least that's the sentiments
of both Captains Harris and Lloyd who have both been presen-
ted with bundles of joy in the last few weeks. Congratulations
to all concerned, especially their wives, well done ladies.
As usual visits tend to brighten our lives, we've recently
had two noteworthy visits, the first was from a group pf
Jordanian Officers one of whom was the DST, Colonel Shahar
AH Suleiman and an enjoyable time was had by all. Our
second visit of note was made by Brigadier Inge, the Munster
Garrison Commander, who came for the Unit's ARU. Again
this was a success and went without a hitch.
Sport in the Unit is on the up. Since the arrival of
Sergeant Dennis Price (not the actor) golf is suddenly the ' in
thing.' In the company of another of our ardent golfers, Sergeant
Taffy Hillard, competitions are being entered at a fantastic rate.
Just for the record, their handicaps seem to be each other.
Football, said tongue in cheek, is our other main sporting
interest and it is to be noted that we recently achieved our best
result to date, yes folks, we forced them to a draw. Hopefully
things will improve.
Finally a quick word on our other arrivals and departures.
Farewell to Sergeant Chris Robbins who has gone to ETS at
Blackdown and also to Corporal Paddy Holmes on his departure
for a stint at 49 RP Company.
Welcomes are accorded to Sergeants Dennis Price and
Greg Simpson who join our happy group for who knows how
long.
In closing the OC wishes to thank MSU for their brief
mention in the April GAZETTE, this, in fact, saved having to
contribute our own notes for that edition.

ADVERTISEMENTS
15 Ordnance Group
HEADQUARTERS
ON the 1st April 1980 our 'family' was enlarged when the
Forward Vehicle Depot Recklinghausen formally became part
of the 15 Ordnance Group. Suitable signals were exchanged
between the Commander, Colonel Edwards and the OC of the
FVD, Major Holland to mark the occasion.
As if to pre-empt this event Mrs Watford the wife of our
Chief Clerk W02 John Watford, presented him with a son
and we are delighted to report that both father and son are
doing well—mother of course took it in her stride!
WOl Noel Fletcher has left us on posting to LEA Andover
and in his place we welcome WOl Alan Leonard from Hong
Kong.
To finish a happy vein it would appear that winter is
behind us—the sun shines warmly, the cricketers are in the nets
and conversation turns towards the summer holidays.
ORDNANCE DEPOT VIERSEN
A few months ago we reported a trip the Officers made to the
Waterloo Battlefield subsequent to a fascinating lecture on the
Battle by Major Peter Gibson. Such was the success of that
occasion, that this month we gladly accepted an offer from him
to do a similar session on the Battle of Arnhem. And so it
was that he gave an extremely interesting, well illustrated
lecture followed the next day by a ride in the PRI bus to see
where it all took place. Our thanks and appreciation to Major
Gibson for all the careful work and preparation he put in to
make it a memorable day for us.
At the end of the rugby season, the Viersen Badgers came
up smiling by winning the ' Chairmans C u p ' competition with
an aggregate of one hundred and ninety eight points for and
forty nine against. The Chairmans Cup, which was presented
by Colonel Musson, was run on a league basis over the season
and the highlight, which clinched the league for us, was the
match against our old rivals 14 Topographical Squadron RE
when we beat them eighteen to twelve.
A welcome to our new arrivals this month: W02 Shaw,
Staff Sergeant Keily, Sergeant Haynes, WOl Mallet and Sergeant
Woolley.
We congratulate W 2 Erskine on promotion to WOl and
A/WOl Humphreys and A/Staff Sergeant Fortune on sub-
stantive rank.
Congratulations to Corporal and Mrs Kennedy on the birth
of their son Terence.
FVD Recklinghausen
AMONGST our visitors during the past month have been
members of the Wulfen Youth Club who spent a day down
here visiting the Recklinghausen Stadt, part of the visit being a
tour of our Depot, and on 16th April we welcomed the DQMG
Brigadier Hild.
