function—aren't these young subalterns resilient nowadays!
Welcomes go also to Privates Davenport and Evans, Crafts-
man Deny and Lance Corporal Smith BS, who awaits his
transfer to the RAPC.
Lance Corporal Austin disappears on one of these all-
singing-all-dancing seven month REME wonder courses, we
know they have the technology but will they really rebuild him?
The odd bottle of Herforder flowed during the last month
and with this impressive list we hope to explain why, and of
course offer our congratulations.
A/Sergeant Dean became
substantive, Corporal Walden became A/Sergeant, Corporal
Roberts and Corporal Murray, became substantive and the follow-
ing Privates were promoted Lance Corporals, Sayers, Braith-
waite and Speed with Privates Tivinan and Bellerby becoming
A/Lance Corporals. As good an excuse as any for some
celebrations . . . well done.
Congratulations are also due to Lance Corporals Rees and
Munro on passing their Sup Clk B2-B1 courses and Privates
Curzon and Conway for making the grade on the Sup Spec
equivalent. Private Rawson also made it in his new trade,
becoming a Sup Clk B3.
It's been a busy month and no doubt there will be a few
more before the end of the year . . . que sera sera!

ORDNANCE
COMPANY
EXERCISE IRON BAND took a grip of the Company this
month. It was designed primarily to test the junior NCOs and
soldiers initiative, military skills and fitness.
Intrepid pathfinders, Lieutenant Stein and WOl McGowan,
found route cards rather boring and between them managed to
discover most of North West Germany—the scenic routes were
well used. Lieutenant Collins was blindfolded and held captive
by a rather over-enthusiastic 5 Field Force Ordnance Com-
pany, but all things being equal the same type of interrogation
procedures were being carried out on their recce parties. The
dawn attack on their position went in without a hitch, although
a hasty withdrawal was called for to avoid dead men applying
rugby tackles.
The section competition was the highlight of the exercise
and included helicopter drills, NBC, WT, FA, Ambush Drills
and so on. Private Brown was awarded his half wings for
helicopter dismounting drills without regard for the twenty
foot of rope provided! The competition culminated in a com-
bined initiative test and river crossing. It was certainly a sight
to see, as the sections took to the water like ducks, harassed as
they were by a massive enemy onslaught of blanks, thunder-
flashes and smoke. The final day of wet live firing took place
on the Bergen/Hohne ranges, but even the weather could not
dampen spirits as the outcome of the competition depended on
good results. The results did us credit, thanks to the tremendous
effort, skill and enthusiasm of Corporal McDouall's section.
Namely Lance Corporal Plunkett, Privates Brown 087, Kendrick,
McCaffrey, Marshall and Miller.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch! Welcome to Second Lieu-
tenant Simpson whose arrival coincided with an Officers Mess
87 SUPPLY DEPOT
WE hosted the Royal Engineers on exercise in our location
this month—much to Mrs Jackie Griffin's (our typist) pleasure.
Since she was seen riding around the camp in some of their
more unusual vehicles we have noticed that her own Toyota car
is viewed with indifference.
Congratulations to Corporal Anderson on promotion to
Sergeant and Lance Corporal McGill to Corporal. Corporal
McGill has been replaced by Private Greenwood who arrived
and was promoted to Lance Corporal on the same day! We not
only congratulate him on that, but heartily welcome him and his
family to our fold; the remainder of us await eagerly the
results of the recent Promotion Board.
Brigadier Skinner visits 87 Supply Depot.
3rd Armoured Division
HEADQUARTERS.
A peaceful month
as the icy blast of winter has given way
to almost tropical climes. Major Bruce
Boulton impatiently paces the corridors
awaiting his move to Hereford, mean-;
while W02 Danvers is busy organising the
umpires for the forthcoming RAOC
BAOR hockey championships. He will
be off shortly to umpire in the Inter-
national Hockey Festival to be held in Rheindahlen. We con-
gratulate Lance Corporal Clarke on his recent marriage and
welcome Private Seeney who has joined us on detachment.
Sergeant Mac Lindley wrestles manfully with the problems of
Combat Supplies whilst Sergeant Art Matthews continues to
pound the streets in order to lose some pounds.

W02 Eddie Mayes has been wearing two caps
