T h e Bari Cup Squad. Stewart, Privates Crosswaite, Upton. Nash and Wilson and to Private Williams on his safe return from Northern Ireland Emergency Tour. Finally we would like to give our best wishes to Lieutenant Colonel Bill Clayden who has been in hospital, or on crutches, continually since Christmas. We hope for a quick recovery and look forward to seeing him in the near future. Central Ordnance Depot- Donnington A SPECIAL farewell this month to Major ' Cyanide' Sid Pincher who departed from the hotbed of Regimental intrigue of COD Donnington to the peace, tranquillity and mysteries of the Petroleum Depot at Westmoors, after being in command for some three years. We wish him well and thank him for all he did during his stay, particularly in the field of small bore shooting where he put Donnington fairly and squarely on the map. He was wined and dined out by the Sergeants Mess in traditional style and, as well as being able to recite the full version of Eskimo Nell, he followed up his repertoire with ' Gunga Din ' ! Likewise a very warm welcome to his successor, Major Richard Powell from DSCS, who was ' piped' aboard, com- manding the St Barbara's Day Parade. During rehearsals, Cap- tain Ron Miller threw his stage manageship of the Little Theatre to the wind and aspiring to greater things, played the part of the Brigadier whilst Captain Peter Whitwham, well known for his oratory and heckling exploits, read the citation in respect of Conductor Gerald Barnes who was subsequently presented with the Meritorious Service Medal by the Com- mandant. Soccer continues to dominate the sporting scene. Follow- ing their Richards Cup victory, the team was voted ' Best Sport- ing Side' by the Referees and Officials Committee of the West Midlands Inter Services League in both Premier and Junior Divisions and in competition against the RAF, West Percia Police and Infantry Units. The award was received on behalf of the team by manager Captain Robin Sider and reflects the discipline and team spirit which has abounded in the side during the season. Well done! Making it three-in-a-row was Sergeant Geordie Holliday who was voted RAOC footballer of the year. This award reflects dedication, professionalism, skill and enthusiasm in the pursuance of Corps soccer which Sergeant Holliday has shown, not only in the Corps Team. but in the Unit Side. Gann on yer Geordie! Still on the soccer scene, many congratulations to COD Bicester on win- ning the RAOC six-a-side tournament. The Annual Donnington Garrison Athletics Meeting was held at Parsons Barracks. Perfect weather, keen competition and an enthusiastic crowd combined to make the day an enjoyable occasion for both competitors and spectators. The success of the day was assured by an excellent Refreshments Marquee professionally organized and managed by the Quarter- master and his Regimental Wing Catering Staff. Garrison Athletics Records are not yet in the Army Class, but nevertheless each year an old record is broken and the standard improved. This year was no exception and no less than four Garrison records were broken. The girls from Spares Sub-Depot (Building B2) lowered the four by one hundred metres relay time to 58.1 seconds. W/Lance Corporal Lauren Jeffrey (Regimental Wing) equalled the one hundred metres record at 13.4 seconds and W/Private Lynn Dixon (Central Packaging) set a new high jump height of 1.35 metres. W/Lance Corporal Sue Rogers reversed last year's final position with W/Lance Corporal Josie Burden in the long jump and, at the same time, raised the record to 5.64 metres. Both girls were finalists in the Women's Army Individual Championships in 1979. In the men's events Sergeant Douggie Hay (Equip- ments Sub-Depot) was Victor Ludorum winning the discus, hammer and shot putt events. Lance Corporal John Weissgerber, the under thirties superstar, won the high jump with a new record height of 1.65 metres and Major Norman Pendlebury, who likes smarties and fruit gums, was first over the line in the Old Soldiers Race to win a packet of each! The Orderly Room has again risen to the big occasion and congratulations are in order for Lance Corporal ' Dicky' Bird who achieved an 'A' grading on his recent documents course. Now if only his football can improve . . . . Pay claims are now very difficult to get since Arsenal were beaten in two cup finals. Hopefully, Paymaster Bill Minns will soon relent and set the cash flowing once again!! Welcome to: Sergeant Mellitt, Corporal Hutchinson, Privates Beattie, Frost, Brocklebank, Taylor and West. Congratulations on promotion to: Lance Corporals Bonney, Anderson and Weissgerber to Corporal. Privates Tomlin and Roberts to Lance Corporal. Congratulations to Private Shaw on his marriage to Miss Lorraine Lavin and Private Jones on his marriage to Miss Elizabeth Forbes. Corporal John Longfield of COD Donnington receiving the RAOC Richards Football Cup from Brigadier Thornton after the (inal against COD Bicester.
