Transcription he took part in. W02 Mick Barr will need to tear up a few
more sports fields before breaking the magical score of ninety
and last but not least Captain Douglas Riddell despite being a
novice to the game, beat the ball around the course but finished
far from last in the order of merit
Eight members of the fishing fraternity have recently
returned from a sea fishing trip to Dartmouth. They spent the
tour on a forty seven foot Ketch the 'Freebooter' which has
been used on the television series ' The Onedin Line.' Un-
fortunately, bad conditions made the fishing difficult, but after
three days of catching ' tiddlers,' conditions became more favour-
able resulting in the catching of some nice Pollock and Conger
Eel.
Corporal John Duncalf made the outstanding catch of the
trip, by netting a fair size Thornback Ray, using only light
freshwater tackle.
The Unit volleyball team came runners-up in the Rhine
Area League losing only two out of twelve games in the process.
This is the first time that Bracht has fielded a side, and all
credit must go to the squad who did extremely well in this their
first season. They now go forward to the BAOR Champion-
ships which are being held in Iserlohn.
Our basketball team finished their first season as the Rhine
Area Second League Champions. They played fifteen matches
and lost only one. Next season they will be competing in the
1st League which should prove to be hard but enjoyable.
The team captain Staff Sergeant John Dudley REME, along
with SI Mai Shaw APTC have worked hard on the side, keep-
ing morale high, the players keen and enthusiastic.
The squash team turned out for a friendly match against
a civilian club from Koln recently. We took along some ' class
players' in the form of WOl John Lawrence, Staff Sergeant
Phil Carrick (and his wife Anne), Sergeant Andy Vinicombe,
Corporals Danny Daniel, Karl Dagnall, Lance Corporal Frank
Gardiner and Corporal Tony Claydon (loaned from the RCT).
After being told all in good faith that the Bracht side should
win, the opposition beat us five matches to three!
W02 Dave Marsh would like it known that he is in-
volved in the training of a Unit swimming team together with
Captain Stuart RAPC. It's not surprising that Dave has shown
an interest for the sport as he was awarded his Corps Colours
for the boat race last summer. There has been no shortage of
volunteers this year as it is rumoured that the team will be
sharing a changing room with the WRAC team. Results, I've
been assured will be passed for publication when competition
starts.
Congratulations are in order for the following: Lance
Corporals Watson, Lowe and their wives on the birth of their
sons. Corporal Irving and Private Fletcher and their good
ladies on their recent marriages. Corporals Dagnall, Lynch,
Sullivan, Lance Corporals Barlow, Beat, Brown, Morris, Rae-
burn, Scaife, Seymour, Walmsley, Ward and Winter on their
promotion.
Welcome to Lieutenant Mackey, W 2 O'Neill, Staff
Sergeant Carrick, Sergeant Helm, Corporals Gowans, Lashmar,
Nicholl, Shaw, Turner, Lance Corporal Ward, Privates Burkitt,
Harvey, McCaig, Taylor and Craftsman Bassom REME.

WE started the exercise period with a fortnight in Pasel on
Adventurous Training, and with the comedians of this Unit,
adventurous it was. Sailing was an experience not to be for-
gotten and parascending also produced the occasional mishap.
Hillwalking and orienteering was a pleasant respite from the
dangers of the aforementioned.
Weather for the period was perfect and most of the out-
door types of the Unit are sporting Mediterranean suntans.
Coming back to the sailing, Captain Cook (Conductor Mike
McCabe), Long John Silver (Staff Sergeant Symons) and Private
Pete (Sergeant Wormley) and the instructor, who would like to
remain anonymous (SSM Manning), actually remained afloat
for an incredible time of ten minutes. When they were afloat
they decided to do some submarine sailing, nosediving into the
Sorpesee. They were not amused by the web feet issued by
the RQMS (Fearless Fred).
Geordie Symons, not satisfied with half drowning, decided
to snap the rope towing him in the parascending, landing amidst
a childrens playground! WOl Chatfield was more heard than
seen shouting in some foreign language to the effect of " Get
me down quickly, please!". Sergeant Jim Botterill also had the
para-jump blues, as on his third descent he landed on his
