Transcription head. There were a few moments of anxiety on take off when
a few of the heavies had to run like fairy elephants to gain lift.
" Evenings were left to normal soldierly activities. Corporal
Lampert (our nocturnal marsupial) was left to his own devices
as no one knows what he gets up to. After the exercise every-
one was so fatigued that Captain Harris had to unload the
wagons alone. Captain Lloyd was not alone in his tent as
many a night strange noises were heard coming from that
llirection. Seems like Max (his dog) wanted to use his Camp
lied. We never discovered who slept in the bed.
Small bore shooting is again the sport in which we excel.
V02 Kirkbride, Staff Sergeant Symons, Sergeants Hillard and
)avis won the 1979/80 RAOC Winter League Small Bore com-
Btition winning six out of seven matches. Well done!
Lance Corporal Stevens is hoping for a mention as he has
lever had a good word said about him, so let's hope he is now
lappy.
Finally, the Chief Scribe, Sergeant Greg Simpson, would
ike to say how much he enjoyed the camp at Pasel—at least
hat's what he would like to say.
W u l f e n Station
SPRING is here again and looking at
the year planner from this perch one sees
the following: Sergeant Shaw EPC Advy
Whitsun Hols, Hamm half term, Station
Fete, Vogelsang training and a couple of
D's which remind me that duty calls and
the Station will be under French
(Security) for two days at least.
As last year the Station Fete will take
place in the Administration Area near the
Headquarters Block. We have organised
stalls and other attractions for the day. The Band of the 3rd
Battalion the Para Regiment will entertain the British and
German guests.
Our Toe H is now open every day due to the willingness
of Mrs Maureen Greathead to provide the boys with daily
newspapers now that the concessionary ones have been with-
drawn. Nice of her really. Ta Luv!
The Lane Single Wicket Tournament is being held shortly.
This is a knock out competition comprising of four overs and
eventually six overs for the semi-finals and final. Judging by
the list held by Mrs Gallacher, the COs PA, it should be a most
successful competition.
We welcome as our new Youth Club Leader Sergeant Paul
McGrath who is also our athletic expert.
-We end on a tragic note. We regret to announce the loss
(believed kidnapped) of Sergeant Frank Batty's budgie. The
yellow beast carries a reward of a posting to Recklinghausen.
Sitings to CC FVD—copy to records please.
154 FOWARD AMMUNITION
DEPOT
WE have had a fairly peaceful month with the exception of
those preparing for the two weeks training and Crusader of
course. Many studious hours were spent planning the first ever
Summer Camp at Vogelsang and we are optimistic it will be
successful, thus reflecting all the hard work put in by Second
Lieutenant Paul Dyer and his aide CSM Tod Slaughter (Ad-
jutant DODO Squadron). Training will include military skills,
weapon classification, fitness training and adventure training,
and as a bonus in survival warfare, how twenty men manage
on two rolls of loo paper for a week!
We welcome Staff Sergeant Roy Crowshaw, Sergeant Dave
Reece, Corporals James Lilley, Laiffe Jameson and Michael
Cuthbert, Lance Corporals Steve Ayres and David Mansfield,
Private Steven Bairstow.
We congratulate Lance Corporal Dickie Dickinson on his
acting promotion to Corporal, Sergeant Geoff and Mrs Baker
on the birth of their son Gavin and Lance Corporal Bob and
Mrs Day on the birth of their daughter Charisse.
FVD Recklinghausen
MOST of the month has been taken up with the Unit parti-
cipating in its summer regimental/adventure training camp at the
Belgian Cavalry School in Arlon, Belgium. Watch our next
months contribution for a more enlightening account of the
events at Arlon.
We now move on to preparing for establishment inspections
and Annual Open Days, where we break out the noddy trains,
ducking stools and rattie stalls, all the while watching out for
forthcoming exercises and high ranking visits.
Staff Sergeant Jennings has now assumed the role of NCO
IC Ballast, WOl Goodenough and Sergeant Batty are now in
the removal business, while Sergeant Williams has gone and
bought himself a new wigwam.
We welcome to the Unit Lance Corporals Iwanciw and
Hutchinson.

STAFF CLERKS
R AND D is our featured branch this month.
As we prepare for the warm up for Exercise
Crusader, comings and goings form a major part
of this months contribution from the cellar of
Block 10.
We have said farewell to the following and
thank them for their past efforts: —
Corporal Rick Kendal off to take charge of
G Air and Mrs Marilyn Bedford to the delights
and sights of Berlin.
The following have ' staged' in R and D and moved on to
the outside world and to them we extend our thanks for all
their hard work.
W/Private Eileen Supple to GSD2 and Private O'Hara to
GSD1.
We welcome Lance Corporal Mike Hulme to R and D from
GSD1 on promotion. Well done Mike.
At the time of writing these notes, the Chief Clerk R and D
is trying to write handover notes amidst a mountain of paper.
The Corps Headquarters reprographics centre is busily beaver-
ing away at the largest reproduction job ever undertaken by the
Headquarters.
We should also at this stage welcome from ' Deepest
Darkest' Deepcut the new Chief Clerk, Sergeant John Foey,
together with his wife Rosemary, and hope their stay in
Bielefeld will be a pleasant one.
The Headquarters bids farewell to the Supervising Officer,
Captain Wally Auton, on posting to the Employment Training
School in sunny Blackdown and all of us here wish him well in
his new appointment. In his place we welcome Captain Jim
Murray.
In addition to the above we say goodbye to W02 Paul
Blaber to the Depot holding strength in the hope that things
in Teheran may improve, W02 Bill Johnston to the MOD on
promotion to SSM, Staff Sergeant Mac Maclaren to Hereford
on promotion to SQMS, Sergeant Alan Morris to Chilwell and
last but not least Sergeant Pete Bedford to Berlin on pro-
motion to Staff Sergeant. Congratulations and good luck to
you all in the future.
In place of the above we welcome W02 John Regan, Staff
Sergeant Bill Rule, Sergeant Stuart King and Private Chris
Gilmore.
Finally, congratulations go to Sergeants Charlie Bowden
and Smudge Smith on their substantive promotion. Well done
to you both.
1st Armoured Division
THIS month saw a very successful visit by
the new DDOS 1 (BR) Corps Brigadier
Skinner which was rounded off by an
excellent Bar-B-Q held at the residence of
Herr Arnold Mett's, our Combat Supplies
Clerk. Despite the fact that it rained con-
tinually throughout, it can be reported that
k
spirits were not dampened. Many thanks
must go to Arnie for allowing the use of
his gardens and also to Sergeant Alby
House for the organisation of the event,
and to Lance Corporal Jock Falconer for the running of the
disco.
On the sporting scene both the CRAOC, Lieutenant Colonel
Clive Pickard and Sergeant Dick Goodfield toured with the
Division at cricket in Berlin. Lance Corporal Jock (Radar)
Falconer says he has taken up golf, but we believe he was just
caddying for Captain Tim Cross and Major Buz Busby.
Finally, congratulations to Sergeant Bob Maxwell and his
wife Sandy on the latest addition to the family, a son, Andrew.
Come back to work quickly Bob, your office is getting over-run!
