Transcription majority of their holdings are walking tall and breathing easy.
(Not a mistake in grammar, the adverb does not exist in
Canada-)
Previous customers of the Ordnance Company (ned Detach-
ment) are reminded that we are now under new management.
In a series of swiftly executed moves our masters pulled off yet
another masterpiece of organisation in changing over the Officer
Commanding, Second-in-Command, Vehicle Platoon Com-
mander and Ammunition Platoon Commander in a period of
six weeks. The plot has recently thickened with the intro-
duction of a second Second-in-Command to arrive ' later in the
year.'
The BFT test is all but over and congratulations must go
to those soldiers who managed with a subtle blend of sick
notes, emptying important containers and skilled malingering
to fly back to their parent Units without passing and before they
could be downgraded. The course has been measured by the
highest authority and we are assured it is not more than one
and a half miles no matter how many times you try.
As the sun sinks slowly in the west we spare a thought for
all our brothers in less salubrious postings and ' wish you were
here.'
Composite Ordnance Depot was the organiser and chief referee
who ensured that the finals were played according to the rules!
Mrs Fox, wife of the CRAOC kindly presented the prizes after
the events and Sergeant Jeannic Hogan WRAC presented Mrs
Fox with a bouquet of flowers.
Recent arrivals into the Colony are W 2 Graham Arscott
and family, Staff Sergeant Ray Dawson and family, Staff
Sergeant Ralph Fella, who came across from the MOD Chinese
Language School in Lyemun, and Sergeant Tony Dales and
family. We wish them a happy stay in Hong Kong.
We have said farewell to W02 John Russell who put a lot
of work into the British Forces Rugby Club and Staff Sergeant
Brian Bcrric and family and wish them good fortune in their
next postings.
Composite Ordnance Depot Hong Kong
TIME once again for the scribe_ to put pen to paper. The
biggest event over the period since our last notes was the
opening of our new Supply Sub-Depot. It was officially opened
by the CBF, Major General Sir Roy Redgrave.
The impressive building was constructed at a cost ol
£1.7 million. It stands next to the line of the Mass Transii
Railway, Hong Kong's underground, and so the siting of
foundations was critical. With three storeys it offers plenty of
room for all, including the Armoured Services Food Chemist
who now resides in a custom built laboratory. The OC, Captain
Martin Hicks, cannot believe his good fortune as he sits in the
nerve centre of this vast complex. Indeed it must be a unique
occasion for the Corps to assume control of a custom built
Supply Depot (memories of ex-Wehrmacht cavalry barracks
spring readily to mind!). (Sec photo on page 46.)
Staff Sergeant Tom Savage spends his day playing with
dock levellers and scissor lifts. Quite -a contrast to the human
chain and push-cart methods of unloading vehicles in the old
Depot.
Sergeant Mike Paling is master of all he surveys which
includes ten cold storage chambers amounting to 514M 3 . The
facilities are vastly superior to the former site in Argyle Street

HEADQUARTERS
A HIGHLIGHT of the month was the
RAOC Novices Hong Kong squash cham-
pionships which were played recently.
A good turn-out saw some interesting
games played, as young and old alike
battled it out for the prizes. The Novice
final winner was Staff Sergeant Tony Mc
Cabe who had too many guns for WOl Kevin Hartley cruising
to a three love win. The Plate final was won by WOl Phil
Buxton who shook off the tigerish challenge of WOl Chuck
Thomas from the Composite Ordnance Depot (Some say it was
a fix but the beer went down well after). The ageless Major Don
Young took the third place play-off from Staff Sergeant Dick
Farren from the Composite Ordnance Depot and, arguably, it
was probably one of the best games of the Championships which
ended up as a five game thriller. Sergeant Pete Ingham from the
