Transcription This month we say farewell to Major David Braithwaite,
off to BAOR to take command of VSD Recklinghausen. His
enthusiasm for ski trips to Bavaria and the Unit football team
will long be remembered. It is understood that he succeeded
in r brainwashing the RSM into agreeing to run the ski trip next
j ear and as far as the football team is concerned, if the posting
Orders coming in are to be believed he is taking them with
liim. Captain Owen also joins him at Recklinghausen.
Farewell to Lieutenant Colonel Kennedy, Lieutenant
Simmons, Sergeants Boswell and Whall, Corporal Price and
'rivates Rigden and Rogers who leave us for civilian life.
Corporals Szkoda and Hall off to the Happy Training Area in
JAOR and Private Heaney off to Cyprus for a tour with the
JN.
We say welcome to Major Walker (of Records fame), Staff
iergeant Keppie, Corporals Isbell and Savage, Lance Corporals
Marshall and Scothem and Privates Black and Catherall. Wel-
»me also to Staff Sergeant Turner (yet again) and Sergeant
Jwainland who joins us as the local 1 AIDU representatives
who said Staff Sergeant Cummings could not be replaced—
:ven if it takes two of them!).

THE award of the British Empire Medal
to Staff Sergeant Mullany WRAC and
Staff Sergeant Jones WRAC in Her
Majesty The Queen's Birthday Honours
List is an event which has been duly
celebrated and deserving of our con-
gratulations.
The annual sports day has been held.
No Olympic qualifying times or distances
were achieved and Headquarters Company
maintained their reputation by coming
fourth, beating the WRAC by half a point. There were some
noteworthy best attempts; W02 Adams achieved three foot in
the shot putt and the best pull in the tug-of-war ended with
the RPC winners almost out of breath. As everybody con-
siders themselves to be old soldiers these days, there was a
mass start for the old soldiers race, and the only handicapping
was self inflicted at the bar. It has been noted that the old
soldiers race trophy no longer adorns the Officers Mess Bar.
Another improvement to the station facilities has been in-
stalled and now the waiting list for a Sauna, is a feature of life
to QMSI Larnder. Following the ceremonial opening of Marl-
borough Depot with all appropriate pomp and dignity, it had
been assumed that an official ceremony would mark the launch-
ing of the Sauna. Except for the expectant loitering of the
.Quartermaster brandishing birch twigs there was no special
liead of steam, but now one can enjoy the cleansing relaxation of
a Sauna after golf or squash or cricket.
j
Congratulations to Captain Adrian Stone on the arrival
of his new daughter—also on his promotion to Major before
posting to LE at Andover. The pheasants and other game in
the depot are celebrating his departure and that of his dogs
with sighs of relief.
Two teams from Mechanised Transport were entered for the
driver of the year competition. An interesting and educational
day was spent whilst undergoing the various tests of skill and
knowledge, at the end of which, Lance Corporal Rogers was
! placed fifth. This was a very creditable placing and probably
. owes something to the fact that he had just been promoted—
| |well done on both events and well tried also to the remainder of
I the party who entered.
!
The WRAC have, as always, been as active at work and
play as the rest of the depot. Captain Sally Bishop has bought
a cottage and been notified of her promotion to Major in Sep-
tember. Second Lieutenant Jane Grafton, unfortunately, is
being posted after only one year. Lance Corporal Campbell,
Privates Rayner and Onisko took part in a successful KAPE
tour of Scotland and three of the girls have been selected to
represent the army in the Womens' National Judo Champion-
ships.
'A' Company insist that in spite of involvement in exercises,
displays and sporting pursuits, they are maintaining maximum
output from the APA. W 2 Hubbard continues to jump from
moving aircraft, with the aid of a parachute of course, and
has descended on Gibraltar and Cyprus. Staff Sergeant Stafford,
Sergeant Grant and Corporal French have demonstrated their
skills to the RAF and WOl Rollison has been to the Army
Aldershot Show with nine ATs. It must be said of 'A' Company
that they made a very professional job of painting sixty flag-
poles for the Opening Ceremony of Marlborough.
Staff Sergeant Hooper w i t h the Captains Cup won at the Corps
Golf M e e t i n g .
Staff Sergeant Hooper, above, won the Captains Cup at
the Corps Golf Championship. The Captains Cup is awarded
annually to the soldier returning the best net score. All that
practice on the Kineton Station golf course was a bit of a help.
We are preparing for the IE(A) Visit. This presents the
usual difficulty of overworked departments spending hundreds
of hours trying to fill small sheets of paper to justify their
manpower. Surely it would be easier to start off with, soccer
eleven men, rugby fifteen men, and then build up from these
essentials.

SINCE England's disappointing performance in Italy it is with
some consolation that this newsletter contains mostly success
stories.
First shooting. WOs2 Tony Dedman, Fritz Keane and
Staff Sergeant Dave Couling spent a very successful weekend
-recently at Altcar partaking in the North West District SAA
Meeting. They came away winners of the team SMG, team
Pistol and team SLR. These wins culminated in the presentation
of a splendid trophy for overall minor Unit champions. Well
done, lads.
A n abundance of trophies being presented to the C A D Long-
town team.
From the left. Major General Hicks, W 2 Fritz
Keane, Staff Sergeant Dave Couling and W 2 Tony Dedman.
