Then came the Parade on the Padang at our Capital Bandar Seri Begawan. Major Brian and Molley Boucher at- tended keeping the Corps flag flying. This was followed by a cocktail party in the evening at the residence of the British High Commissioner. The Garrison catering adviser, Sergeant Cliff (Cookie) Newton can be com- plimented on an outstanding success. Our Sergeants ( Mess held a squash and badminton com- petition followed by a disco in the community centre. Al- though the Ordnance members themselves didn't do very well, their wives did. With an Ordnance Ladies Badminton final, Laura Manders beat Matty Carr. And in the squash final, Margret wife of Staff Sergeant Andy Wadner beat Laura Manders. Well done girls! Staff Sergeant Ben Carr has ditched all his school books after completing his EPC(Adv) course. The Hash House Harriers had an ' O n O n ' last Monday to celebrate Sergeant Cliff (Cookie) Newton's fiftieth run, also in attendance was W02 Kevin Reardon on his first Hash. Keep going Kevin we need more military runners. Nina Hadfield, wife of W02 Chris, now holds the Ladies Hash Record of eighty three runs. Nina will be missed for her hashing and netball coaching, Chris will be missed for so much that I dare not start to, put pen to paper. All the best to you both, Timothy and Simon, and we hope you will enjoy Lisburn very much. June, wife of Corporal Rod Shaw has taken up Ladies baseball at the local Panga Club with Gina, wife of our VM Sergeant Ray Wickson. Welcome to W 2 Kevin, Elizabeth and boys Rearden from 15 Field Workshop. We hope you will enjoy Brunei as much as we do. Force Ordnance Company Belize THIS is our very first newsletter having formed as a new Unit •on the 1st July 1980 here in sunny Central America. To mark the formation of the Unit the Officers and all RAOC members of the Warrant Officers and Sergeants Mess attended a formal dinner at which the guests of honour was Colonel Carruthers the Ofncer-in-Charge RAOC Manning and Records Office, here visiting RAOC personnel in the theatre. His visit followed the visit of the newly appointed Chief Ordnance Officer UKLF, Brigadier Berresford. Our photograph shows the Brigadier with members of the RAOC in Belize enjoying an informal barbecue evening at which all members of the Corps attended. Brigadier Berresford the Chief Ordnance Officer UKLF with members of the newly formed Force Ordnance Company in Belize. Sergeants Fred Haddock, John McMullcn, Ian Davics, Jim Bryceland, Roy Tonge, Ian Paddison, Jim Munday and Rick Osborne, Corporals Martin Manning, Dick Whittington, Dixie Dean, Bill Dyson, Rob Wharton, Taff Osborne and Dave Wilson, Lance Corporals Steve DeFuc, Tony Broadbent, Paul Goody, Grenny Avison, Bob Stewart, Ray Woollcy, Steve Green, Mark Pcrcival, Martin Creswell, John Mortimer, Geoff Edwards and Private Ken Sheppard. Now that our Unit has been born, we hope to contribute a regular newsletter about our service to the British Forces Belize. BATUS Ordnance Company THE summer months at BATUS tend to be quiet and relaxed except when the Battle Groups hand over every four weeks, when we work non stop for forty eight hours. The Sccond-in-Command Captain Alan Taylor has just returned from leave in California, having dodged volcanic eruptions and tornados, not looking as relaxed as he should have done. The Company cricket team came a very worthy second in the BATUS knock out com- petition being beaten by REME Workshop. We have been busy entertaining school children from Medicine Hat who visit us each year at this time to see what we do. On the last visit no less than one hundred children aged five to seven years spent a happy day with us. We say farewell to Staff Sergeant Dick Abrams and family and congratulate him on his promotion and award of the BEM. Others departing are Staff Sergeant Jan Laing, W02 Bruce Atkin, Lance Corporal Bob Marshall and Private Daniels. We welcome Staff Sergeants Tony Evans and Eric Preene and Sergeant Peter Grills. animation 38teto£ THE Bielefeld Branch of the RAOC Association took ad- vantage of the visit of our new Director General to 1 (BRt Corps to hold a Bar BQ in the grounds of 85 Supply Depot Committee Members under the able direction of WOl Dobsoi and the Branch Secretary W02 Webster mobilised the Brand Membership to bring nearly two hundred to enjoy wit) General and Mrs Brown on a clear dry night an excellen supper and disco dance. Major Walker, and his staff set th' scene with instant bay trees to line the route from tent tl cooking area and turned the end of a Compo Barn into th 1 disco with draped parachutes to soften the pallet outline, Captain Eccles was spotted on patrol round the lake, whici had a superficial .resemblance to a static water tank, lightii^ party candles and later some rather noisy rockets. The part atmosphere was encouraged by plenty of paper streamers an. confetti and a relaxed atmosphere based on the slacks an! pullover order of dress. The 'Red Baron' provided disco sounds which reverberatei off the corrugated walls of the disco barn. The cooks provided a varied fare of barbecued bangers, chicken and 'steak with. jacket potatoes and cold meat salad to be topped off with cream gateaux and coffee. All in all it turned out to be an event to remember with a well integrated attendance from all the Headquarters and Units belonging to the Bielefeld Branch to welcome our new Director General. Our new Officer Commanding is Major Geoff Smith who arrived recently from Viersen with his family—he also doubles as the Force Ordnance Officer. He is assisted by Captain Peter Veal, our OEO, who becomes OIC Stores Platoon, previously OIC Ordnance Services. We also have a newly formed Combat Supplies Platoon and we eagerly await the first incumbent in the post of OIC. It is perhaps an ideal time to get everyone in our new Unit on parade and fully identified, they are: — WOl Ian Major (FOWO), W 2 Frank Smith (FATWO), W02 Terry Stroud, Staff Sergeants John Ward and Dave Dupree, — 98 — SEND IT TO T H E GAZETTE A short article about events—places—people is always interesting particularly when accompanied by a photo- graph.
