The Territorial Army Champion.
COVER
PHOTOGRAPH
THE Champion is chaired off the ranges by his colleagues. At
this year's small arms meeting at Bisley a member of our CVHQ
Shooting Team won the Queen's Medal. Lance Corporal Phil
Weatherby who has been with RAOC TA for four years beat
all comers from the Territorial Army—and showed them quite
convincingly, that non Infantry Units are able to beat them at
their own game. Lance Corporal Weatherby was also the Corps
rifle champion for the third time at the Corps Small Arms Meet-
ing held on Ash Ranges in May. (See August issue of THE
GAZETTE).
Within the shooting world the team name of RAOC CVHQ
has become well known. They have four Corps championships
to their credit, plus now three Queen's Medallists—who between
them hold no less than six Queen's Medals! Sergeant Trevor
Haynes has won three and W02 Jack Meynell has the unique
distinction of being the only person to ever win the medal with
the old Mk IV and then with the SLR several years later.
The team was started some ten years ago and since that
time has built a reputation by winning competitions, both in-
dividual and team, in every year of its existence.
