BRIAN DALTON started his Army career with the Queen's
Royal Regiment in 1945. He was commissioned into the
Regiment in May 1946 and saw service in Egypt and Palestine,
attached to RAOC for most of the time. On transferring to
the Corps he was posted to the RAOC Training Centre where,
in 1951, he was granted a Regular Commission. After attend-
ing the 17th Ordnance Officers Course he was again posted to
Egypt where he served in both Storehouse and Provision ap-
pointments, followed by a period spent as DADOS Cyprus
District, before returning to UK to take up another Staff ap-
pointment in Headquarters Eastern Command.
This was
followed by yet another tour overseas, first to Gibraltar and
then to 15 ABOD in BAOR before attending the IM course at
Manchester University in 1962/63.
SPECIAL S A L V E R
A SILVER SALVER engraved with the signatures of the three
Quarter-Master-Generals and four Vice-Quarter-Master-Generals
to whom he has been Staff Officer since 1973 was presented to
Lieutenant Colonel W. J. Scoging by General Sir Richard
Worslcy the Quarter-Master-General at a recent ceremony to
mark his retirement.
Lieutenant Colonel Scoging enlisted in the Royal Sussex
Regiment during the 1939/45 war. Wounds received during the
campaign in Italy caused his transfer in 1949 to RASC in which
Corps he was commissioned. He joined the RAOC following
McLcod in 1965.

this year's Birthday List, Lieutenant Colonel Scoging is retiring
to take up the post of Deputy Secretary of the Greater London
TA Association at the Duke of York's Headquarters in Chelsea.
Brigadier Dalton present's a Trophy as Director Base Depots.
His next appointment was as DADOS Headquarters Alder-
shot District, which was followed by appointments in Aden
and Bahrain, the latter on promotion to Lieutenant Colonel as
the CRAOC responsible for setting up Ordnance Services.
On returning once more to UK in 1968 he moved to Don-
nington where he was to remain for over four years; first as
Assistant Senior Provision Officer and later as Senior Stores
Officer. It was in recognition of his work as A/SPO that he
was awarded the OBE in 1971.
After a short spell as SPO at Chilwell in 1972 he was given
the task of setting up the Control Division of the new Central
Inventory Control Point. On promotion to Brigadier in 1974
he was appointed Brigadier CSDW, latterly Director of Supply
Computer Services.
On the formation of the Logistic Executive he became the
first Director Base Depots and set up the newly formed Direc-
torate at Andover. During this period he also became the
Hon Colonel RAOC TA Sponsored Units. In this duty as in
all the others he has filled throughout his many years in the
Corps, he showed his own brand of unique enthusiasm setting
high standards for us all to follow. This enthusiasm and
dedication remained with him to his last day of service.
He has now settled with his wife and daughter in Grateley,
near Andover; his son is serving overseas with The British
