Corporal Taffy Pascoe: No. 8. Unit, Corps, BAOR player. Immensely experienced and talented back row forward, who unfortunately was injured prior to the Final, having only come back to rugby this season after a long lay off. Capable of play at a higher level, has strong leadership potential. Corporal Chris Christopher: Wing Forward. Unit. Corps, BAOR, Army Squad 1979/80. Tall, strong and very fit forward. a major asset to any team, with his sheer dedication to the game. Key member of a successful back-row, played out- standingly throughout season. Played in the Final. Posted to Blackdown May 1980. Corporal Andy Green: Wing Forward. Unit and Corps player. Tall, wiry and very fast. Produced outstanding games in BAOR and Army Final. Has great potential, and is capable of playing at higher level. Lance Corporal Ken Sullivan: Hooker/Wing Forward. Unit player. Another constant reserve, who loyally accepted his status. Small and compact, his dedication, enthusiasm and total involvement were an example to all. Good potential for the future. W02 Keith Humphries: Second row. Unit and Corps player. Stand-in anywhere. Captain of 2nd XV. Encourages everyone to play the game. Useful reserve, if only to remind players he is waiting for his big chance! It only remains to record my appreciation to all the players for their total dedication in winning the trophy which I am sure is a matter of pride to all members of the Corps. However, I must echo the sentiments expressed by Brigadier Alan Ferny- hough in hoping that our Corps will continue to excel in rugby. We have the players, and the potential, it is up to the ad- ministrators and commanders at all levels to provide the opportunities to ensure Corps rugby is kept firmly on the map throughout the next decade. W 1 Denholm with the trophy. Corporal Roger Lister: Scrum-half. Unit, Corps, BAOR player. Small, slight but aggressive player, with a long pass, and devastating break. Worthy of play at a higher level, if he could maintain consistent form. Played in the Final. Lance Corporal J onto Watklns: All rounder. Unit and Corps player. Small, stocky, Welshman, can play anywhere in the backs. An unfortunate series of injuries including broken collar bone and wrist restricted his appearances. Did not play in the Final. Posted to Bicester August 1980. Corporal John Watton: Centre. Unit and Corps player. Fit and dedicated player, who unfortunately had major opera- lion in December 1979. Could not play in the Final. Posted to Blackdown October 1980. Sergeant Taffy Tarr: Prop. Unit, Corps BAOR player. Heavy, thickset Welsh prop. Strong and knowledgeable in forward play, but typically has no hands! Key member of an excellent front row. Played in the Final. Posted to Blackdown December 1980. Sergeant Brian Zycinski: Prop. Unit and Corps player. Immensely strong and knowledgeable prop. Good in rucks and mauls. Missed the Final through injury. Posted to Aldershot October 1980. Captain Rick Oldham: Prop. Unit and Corps player. Perpetual stand-in, but hard trainer, who would be in most Unit sides. Missed part of season whilst on a course. Useful all-rounder. Corporal Roger Bisson: Hooker. Unit and Corps player. Always a reserve, but forced himself into team for Final by excellent all round play. Dedicated in training, an example of what can be done with effort. Posted to 7 Field Force July 1980. Sergeant Bobbie Scott: Hooker/Prop. Unit, Corps, BAOR player at forty one years old! Vastly experienced in either position, accurate thrower of the ball, always around in the most unexpected places—usually at the right time. Secretary of the club, strong in team loyalty, key member of the side. Played in the Final. Lance Corporal Knocker Powell: Back row/second row. Unit and Corps player. Out of necessity played in second row and developed into an excellent jumper in the line, a mobile all round player, who despite inexperience has developed into a fine forward. Played in the Final. Corporal Danny Daniels: Back row/second row. Unit and Corps player. Newcomer to the game, but developing well. Strong, immensely fit and mobile, with more experience will be a fine forward. Played in the Final. Corporal Dick Trovers: Second row. Unit and Corps player. In third season, has developed into a fine all round player capable of playing at a high level. Excellent jumper in ihe line, very mobile, played number eight in the Final and was a tremendous success. Posted to Hounslow June 1980. — ik RAOC * * * RIFLE ASSOCIATION (SMALL BORE) A relieved RSM George Penrose will shortly be handing over as caretaker secretary small bore shooting; we would like to thank RSM Penrose for performing this difficult task so well at short notice. Also our thanks to Captain Norman Doming for his long spell as secretary prior to his BAOR posting. Within the next few weeks Units will be receiving in- structions with regard to the 1980/81 winter postal com- petitions. In order to encourage maximum participation it has been decided to eliminate individual and match entry fees which last year may have deterred some and instead ask Units to make one entry fee of £10 which will give them un- limited entries in all matches. The achievements of our Corps in the small bore world have been well publicised in THE GAZETTE. One result worthy of note is the ARA Inter Corps Small Bore Target Rifle Match. The team of eight firers came second to the Royal Artil- lery for the second year running scoring three thousand one hundred and forty nine out of a possible three thousand two hundred. The Gunners scored three thousand one hundred and sixty eight an outstanding performance. Please give your support to small bore shooting this com- ing season; apart from a pleasant social activity it is an excel- lent ground for the military shot The address of your new secretary is: Major S. Pincher RAOC, Petroleum Centre RAOC, West Moors, Wimborne, Dorset. LONG RAOC SMALL BORE RANGE CHAMPIONSHIP (TR) YOUR small bore committee has decided to re-introduce the above competition in the form of a postal shoot. The challenge trophy was last fired for in 1973 when won by RSM Maurice Gosling. For full details and entry forms send £1.00 cheques/postal orders crossed and made payable to Hon Secretary RAOC Small- bore Shooting, Petroleum Centre RAOC West Moors, Wim- borne Dorset. 107 — |
