Transcription I first met Jim when we served together as Platoon Com-
manders at the RAOC Apprentices' College from 1969/71. He
also commanded Administration Company at 7 Field Workshop
REME when I was Officer Commanding Stores Section there.
Always cheerful, reliable and helpful, Jim was immensely popular
with all ranks.
An Army and Combined Services swimmer and water polo
Blayer of long standing Jim did much to promote these sports
hroughout the Army. No RAOC soldier who trained under him
|n the pool, or was on the receiving end of a polo ball hurled
by him, is ever likely to forget the experience.
He will be missed by us all, and our sympathy goes to his
(rife Zena and. children Jane, Liz and Andrew.
PRIVATE D. S. EMBERTON
MAJOR H. G. HEAP writes: —
The news of the death of Private David Stuart Emberton
is a result of a motoring accident came as a great shock to
fcverybody who knew him and especially those who worked with
him in 4th Armoured Division Ordnance Company.
David was an energetic man who even before reaching his
teens set his heart on joining the Army. Having first become a
cadet he had to wait until he was seventeen before enlisting
in the T and AVR with the 4th Royal Green Jackets and then
joined the RAOC as a regular in November 1978. After com-
pleting his Basic and Supply Specialist training he spent a few
months at Bicester before joining 4th Armoured Division Ord-
nance Company in September 1979.
Throughout his life David made friends easily due to his
happy and open approach towards one and all. He had a
tremendous ability to overcome the many difficulties which must
face a young man in our modern Army. Always was he cheer-
ful and enthusiastic in the face of adversity and these splendid
qualities did much to lift the spirits of his comrades.
For his parents, his sister and other members of his family
there can be no recompense for their loss but I trust that they
will find some consolation from the knowledge that David was
a man in whom they may take the greatest pride. To them, on
behalf of all ranks of the Corps, I offer my deepest sympathy.
