Transcription FORWARD ORDNANCE DEPOT DULMEN
SINCE the last appearance of Dulmen in THE GAZETTE a lot has
happened and we are now under the guiding hand of our new
CO, Lieutenant Colonel Ewens; we wish him and his family a
flelated welcome and a happy stay at Dulmen. Farewells are
llways sad occasions and we sadly say au revoir to Lieutenant
Ifolonel Camilleri and family.
On to the training side the Unit summer camp was held
his year at AMTC Silberhutte in the Harz Mountains and I
hink I am right in saying that all personnel who attended en-
nyed the activities which included climbing, abseiling, hill-
falking, map reading, orienteering, NBC and First Aid. The
porting side also had a few laughs, Corporal Tich Gardiner
iroved that height isn't everything when he outjumped Corporal
lofty Young in the volleyball competition. The orienteering
fompetition had its ups and downs which is inevitable in the
Jarz, when Sergeant Mick Binks found himself running up
he hills, with Corporal Gardiner doing the coaching from the
alleys. The coaching tactics seemed to work as Sergeant
Sinks along with Staff Sergeant Graham Stanton and Sergeant
Jill Wreyford won the Harz walkabout competition. As for the
light life at Silberhutte Corporal Graham Smith and Lance
Corporal Roy Kettyle must be congratulated on running out
jf beer in the ' Fudas Carallio Club ' ! !
Congratulations to Lance Corporal Tony Blyth, Private
Steve Adams and our REME contingent Craftsman John Lowry
on their recent marriages, also to Lance Corporals Mark Howson
and Tony Franklin and Private Ian Sellars and their wives on
the recent additions to the family, another congratulatory
message goes to Corporal Dave Thompson whose wife recently
gave birth to a baby girl and he was granted promotion to
Corporal (no connection).
The Dulmen Gazette notes would not be complete without
something on the sporting side and once again Sergeant Mick
Binks gets a mention by winning the five thousand and fifteen
hundred metres in the Travers Clarke meeting for the third
successive year helping Dulmen to retain the track cup. A
fine performance by Corporal Steve Lonnen, who is now at
Deepcut, helped him to break his own Corps record in the eight
hundred metre and Private Tim Millward won the four hundred
metre cup. In the BAOR Minor Unit Championships Private
Millward achieved a time of 51.7 seconds which broke the Corps
record but this time will not count as it was not an RAOC
meeting.
The Unit cricket team deserves a mention on coming third in
ihe Rhine Area League and a special thanks goes to Sergeant
Vobby Clark and Corporal Alan Hughes for the work they put
ii to achieve this creditable result.
Congratulations to Corporal Steve Lonnen who represented
jiAOR in a Anglo German athletics meeting held in JHQ Rhein-
iahJen and to Staff Sergeant Colin Dewsbury who also represen-
ed BAOR in the BAOR Angling Team match versus the RAF.
Management Services Unit BAOR
)Y" the time our notes appear in print, we shall have achieved
me of the Unit objectives for 1980. Chameleon-like we change
|ur title on 1st August to RAOC Management Services Unit
liAOR, which will more accurately describe our multifarious
lictivities in the Command.
The Unit was again represented in this years RAOC
BAOR Athletics Championships. We performed impeccably
and as professionally as usual. The glorious six timekeepers
were photographed at their event, and are from top to bottom:
Captain Ian Quarrier, SSMs Dave Haugh, Sandy Bennett, John
Dawson, SQMS Len Cornfield and SSM Bill Cooke.
SQMS John Last has deigned to return to us in time for
block leave. Three weeks on a computer course in Blandford
was followed by four weeks colloquial German in Mulheim—
success at which earned him £80. Subsequently this intrepid
traveller has just returned from his annual duty as Camp
Sergeant Major on the Nijmegen Marches. One of the marchers
whispered that he was so cheerful each time they met. " Full
of bonhomie and Becks," he said.
At this stage of the unreasonable ' Summer,' we are thank-
ing the OC, Major David Rowley, for ' suggesting ' that block
leave in August would be a good thing for the Unit. Certainly,
the weather can only get better. Either he has friends in high
places or a 'bright' future as a weather forecaster!
All on time.

pected it to be.
The million dollar
corridor, as it is commonly known by some Mess members,
should be ready in Late September. Sadly, WOl Jim Wood, who
has worked so hard towards this project, is now in Viersen, we
were hoping he would attend the grand opening.
The Lane Single Wicket Competition was held recently and
a most successful day it was. We congratulate Corporals Max
Bonsu on winning, and Dicky Dickinson on a keenly fought
final.
The Nijmegen Marchers are back. We are slightly puzzled
how one can get a sore throat from marching! Nevertheless, the
. thirteen team members did exceedingly well and marched past
the saluting enclosure (traffic or not we missed you Sir) in good
style. Their efforts which have been sponsored by most Station
members will go towards a donation to the Stoke Mandeville
Appeal Fund.
On the athletic side a special mention to the superstars of
the track. Second Lieutenant Paul Dyer, Sergeants Phil Woollard,
Bob Cunningham-Norton, Paul McGrath, Corporals Mick Knox,
Chris Markham, Paul Grimsley, Lance Corporal Mick Iwanciv
and Private Benny Bennett who with great effort and team
work managed to achieve very good results in both the RAOC
BAOR and the Rhine Area Minor Units Competition. We now
hope to generate further interest and build a good cross country
team to steal some of the limelight from our neighbour Unit
the FOD at Dulmen.
To finish we say farewell to Lieutenant Colonel Holland and
thank him for all his hard work towards making the FVD and
154 FAD into a closely knit and friendly Station.
154 FORWARD AMMUNITION
DEPOT
WULFEN at the moment is swamped and I mean swamped.
We have had nothing but rain for, it seems like, forty days and
forty nights. There is no truth in the rumour that the Supply
Specialists in the Depot are building an ark out of pallets.
Talking about pallets. Regimental Training this month
took the form of a miliskills exercise, moving tactically across
the Depot and swimming in full combats. (That was the river
crossing). Sounds of ' squelch ' were heard for the remainder
of the day. Needless to say the winning team led by Sergeant
Ben (Captain Kremin) Bienkowski managed to get some wet
stuff in red cans inside them.
