sports, they can phone Tony who will come round and drink with them until the feeling wears off. WOl Phil Buxton (no- body knows just what he's supposed to do) is too busy preparing for his trip to Brunei ' on duty' as he so carefully stresses. If he's going on duty why is he applying for excess baggage for his water skis? From experience, it's a waste of time to get anybody in G Branch to write the, notes, as they are usually ' involved in an operational/establishment/training/social problem which is going to takes ages to sort out,' it's funny how the same excuses travel all over the world. Staff Sergeant Ray Dawson, Chief Clerk Q Quartering, when asked, said he was much too busy. Probably because he was moonlighting as a Public Relations consultant to San Miguel Breweries ' Midnight Barbecues with draught beer on tap a speciality.' I've even tried Stats and Records with W02 Dick Hope and Sergeant John Lindsay, but when I phoned them, all I got was a disembodied voice repeating " Does not compute. Does not compute." I know, I'll give Staff Sergeant George Jones, Chief Clerk Army Support Element, a ring. " Hello, George, Dave Powell here. You know you said that it was easy writing notes for Corps journals? Well, I've got a proposition for you ' and don't forget to bid farewell to Staff Sergeant Tony McCabe, Corporals Steve Crowhurst and Bernie Andrews departing the Colony and wish them and their families good luck in their future postings. Oh, and you'd better extend welcomes to Corporal Cooper and Lance Corporal Wheetman and their •families and hope they have an enjoyable tour in Hong Kong. Thanks George." ACCOMMODATION SERVICES UNIT HONG KONG THE wind of change is still wafting through the ASU. Mr Johnson Wong, ASA at Osborn Barracks, has left us on retire- ment and in his place we welcome Mr David Lai on pro- motion from Gun Club Hill. On the same note, the changeover of command of the ASU was celebrated at the Miramar Hotel with the traditional Unit party, at which we were delighted to welcome Major Len and Mrs Peggy Davis to the fold on their arrival from Belfast. We hope they have a very enjoyable tour in Hong Kong. Among the guests were Lieutenant Colonel and Mrs Fox and Major and Mrs Young and their daughter Jillian. We bid farewell to Major Bob Stephens on his departure for Harrogate where we have great hopes for him. One other change has taken place in the Unit—the new MQES and ASA Office at Osborn Barracks has been opened by Mrs Boam, wife of the Deputy Commander. Now we can really say to the Kowloon ASAs—you've never had it so good. Heartiest congratulations go to Mr Yuen Kwai Yan on his award of the Commander British Forces testimonial. Composite Ordnance Depot Hong Kong LAST month we held a potted sports day on the Blackdown Sports Field which attracted teams from all departments. A hard days battle was fought, in pouring rain—everyone put up a good show. The end was inevitable with the overall win going to the Heavy Brigade from ASD. This was followed up with our annual swimming gala. Training for this was a priority with most teams. Vehicle Group who have won the gala for the last three years were unfortunate to have their champion backstroke swimmer disqualified; this gave the Head- quarters Administration team the chance to storm into the lead after winning the first two races. They eventually won the day after a very close fight with Stores Group /RSG team second and Vehicle Group a very close third. All the parti- cipants gave their best and are to be congratulated for giving everyone who attended a very enjoyable day. Special mention must be given to Mrs Tonia Barnes the only female swimmer and Sergeant Ricky Parkes who not only won three events but also put much time and effort into the organisation of this excellent gala. The major military event of the year for the ASD was the presentation of the Certificate and Ribbon for Long and Meri- torious Service to fifteen of our Sikh Policemen by the out- going CBF, Major General Sir Roy Redgrave. This certificate recognises the hard and loyal service given by the ADP to the ASD and is presented after fifteen years service with an additional ribbon for each ten years served over the fifteen years. The ribbons will be worn on the left arm. The Sikh Policemen with their awards. As the six month period of maintenance draws to an end, the contractors are finally beating a fighting withdrawal from the new Supply Sub-Depot. Staff Sergeant Mick Paling can be seen, armed with a millboard, making copious notes about structural defects which require immediate action. The mould growth on the walls is causing some concern and so air con- ditioners must be left on twenty four hours a day (fuel and light consumption should be interesting!). Our congratulations are extended to W02 John and Pauline Knight on the birth of their daughter Susan; Staff Sergeants Stu Veazey and Cris Collins on their substantive promotion and Staff Sergeant Mick Paling and Sergeant Willy Morton on their acting promotion. We have said our farewells this month to Major Mike Newman, WOsl Fred Woolhouse and Bruce Collett, (this is positively the last mention you'll get in our Corps Notes Fred), Mr David Jenkinson our ASFC, W02 Ian Cradock, Staff Sergeants Tom Savage and Mick Costen and finally Corporals Graham Chubb and Lenny Hardman. We wish both your- selves and your families the very best for the future. In exchange we welcome Major John Norris, Mr Krishnarine Lalla the ASFC, WOsl Eric Burrell and Allan Whiteley, W02 Bob Mason, Staff Sergeant Stu Veazey, Sergeant John Blake and Corporal Geordie Duffy. May you and your families enjoy your stay here with us. BATUS Ordnance Company OVER the next few months we would like td bring readers up to date on who is here on tho permanent staff. This month is the Head- quarters staff. The OC is Major Peter Courtney" Green ably assisted by Captain Alan Taylor both from the select world of ammunition. Out orderly room is looked after by Mrs Betty Gagfl and Corporal Colin Foster. Just who looks aftei whom we are not quite sure. Across the corridor we have WOl Nigel Smith who ii responsible for the Vehicle Platoon, Regimental matters as well as being BATUS Fire Chief (this previous sentence is for thi impending I of E team visit). In the Local Purchase section Staff Sergeant Eddie Tuckey and Mrs Donna Michalczyk go about their business in a quiet professional manner buying up half of Medicine Hat. Finally, in the Vehicle Control Mrs Faye Dennett and Miss Debbie LeBlanc provide the remainder of the glamour for which the Ordnance Company has become so well known amongst visiting Battle Groups. We welcome Staff Sergeant Eric Preen and Sergeant Peter Grills, Privates Morris and Blake and say farewell to W02 Bruce Atkin, Staff Sergeant Ian Laing and Lance Corporals Bob Marshall and Clive Beck.
