NORTHAC
THE Headquarters as a whole is going
through a slight slump with the lucky ones
either on leave or about to go on leave.
The Division held a barbecue at our
Chiefs cottage and it was a great success
thanks to the efforts of our Chief Clerk
W02 Doug Boshier and his chief foreman
Staff Sergeant Norbet Krenz. A special
thank you must go to Mr Hans Stcyvcn,
our German Interpreter, who celebrated
twenty years with NATO by kindly paying
for the barbecue. Thank you Hans.
We welcome Private Mark Worall
back to the arms of the Division but we
have still to find out where he managed to
obtain his lovely ' Black Specs.'
Major Jim Houseman must obviously be in the wrong job
or pushing for a medal as yet another cap badge within the
Headquarters has decided that the RAOC is the Corps to be in.
Well done Sergeant Alan Cooper (Royal Signals), you have seen
the light.
We can also report a number of staff changes—Conductor
Dave Barron (soon to be Lieutenant) has departed on leave to
sunny France where presumably he will daydream about his
new job. WOl Bob Irwin has taken over his chair and in turn
he has been replaced by W02 Barry Quigley. Staff Sergeant
Ken Quinn has departed to Wulfen on promotion and will be
' sadly missed ' by the football team. We say welcome to Staff
Sergeant Bob Besseling who takes over as PA to ACQS G3.
Headquarters BAOR
CORPORAL REG BLACK, formally of the RE
Postal and Courier Branch, who has been serving
a period of probation in S Man Branch prior
to his transfer to the RAOC, was toasted in to
the Corps in August by Colonel Harry Brown
and S Man colleagues.
The picture shows
Corporal Black in the centre with WOl Bob
Suthren, Major Geoff Scott, Colonel Harry
Brown and Captain David Rees clinking their
glasses. Corporal Black's wife, Staff Sergeant
J. C. Black BEM WRAC is the NCO in charge of No. 3 Typing
Pool in Headquarters BAOR—Priority typing anybody?
Corporal Maisie Atherton of the Australian Army has
joined Ordnance Directorate on an Exercise Longlook attachment.
Maisie's home is in Adelaide. She has been in the Army for four
years. Her Unit in Australia is 32 Supply Battalion in Victoria
where she is employed as a Stock Management Clerk. Whilst in
Germany, arrangements are being made for her to see as much of
Europe as possible and we hope to arrange to send her on a
training trip to UK. She will be returning to Australia in
time to be with her family in Gillis Plains for Christmas.
Sergeant Stewart May has left Combat Supplies Branch for
local discharge in Germany. He plans to settle in Soltau. His
replacement is Corporal Le Page who comes to us from Head-
quarters NORTHAG.
Ammunition Inspectorate BAOR
WOl STEVE HARMON recently showed what his right arm
was for by winning the javelin event at the RAOC BAOR
athletics meeting. Our short range squad, WOl Dave Williams
and Sergeant Alan Riches, were right on target and came
home with trophies for the 4th Armoured Division Sergeants
Mess darts team. No prizes for the scribe however, who corn-

plctely missed the target date for THE GAZETTE notes—hence
our non appearance last month!
The more academic side brought W02 Bob Cockbum and
Sergeant Mick Gritton their German Colloquial Language
badges. Not to be outdone, Captain Andy Williams dashed off
to Mulheim at Hochgeschwindigkeit to pass his exam. The
exam, incidentally coincided with the visit of the Commander
Herford Garrison, Colonel Winder, who spent the morning
looking at us in the ' new' location.
Things sporting bring reports of Captain Geoff Cox win-
ning silvers at the RAPA parachute championships at Bad
Lippspringe and Corporal Dave ' Hirohito' Scullion being
graded 7KYU (High Orange Belt) on his judo course. His
pre course grading was UG (Ungraded, not the noise made
during bouts!).
We sadly say farewell to Sergeants Three—Ian Chilcott,
Mike Gritton and Bob Craig on posting to pastures new. We
welcome Corporals Two (some mathematical error here) Keith
France and Chris McAndrew.
Howlings and animal noises from the wilds of Bergen-
Hohne ranges tell us that Corporal Chris Hall has taken over
from Corporal Gavin Dunhill—who has departed for the peace
and quiet of Kineton.
3 Base Ammunition Depot
OUR sports activity is running at a reduced level, with only
cricket and marching actually taking place. Major Ben Cooper
our OIC Cricket reports that the Inter-Departmental cricket
competition has ended. The Ammunition Sub-Depot 'A' Team
walked away with the trophy after beating the Control Office
'A' Team. The winning team consisted of WOl Denholm,
Corporal Daniel, Lance Corporals Edmonds, Powell, Ramsey and
Wright. The competition was a definite success, participated by
many who had not hit a cricket ball before. Scores ranged from
a magnificent sixteen all out, to a handsome one hundred and
twenty four, both scores achieved from a maximum of five overs.
It's a pity that the Unit team can't emulate that kind of run rate.
Whilst on the subject of the Unit team, they are at present trying
to complete their season.
Unfortunately trophies have evaded us, but the rugby team
will feature next year as a definite threat—strengthened of
course by the odd cricketer!
