Our marching team has been ' hotfooting' it around the continent recently. The first event was in the Belgium Ardennes called the " Marche du Souvenir et de L'Amite " (" March of Remembrance and Friendship "). This was held over one hundred and twenty kilometres over the space of four days with five thousand five hundred people taking part. It transpired that ive supplied the only British Army Team and were given the honour of laying a wreath on the grave of ten R A F airmen, killed during the Battle of the Bulge. The next event was the Rheindahlen Allied Marches over forty kilometres. A team of sixteen took part, the most notable being Mrs Norma Ellis who pushed a pram for the forty kilometres! The big event which is the marchers ' Tour de France ' was the Nijmegen Marches. A team of thirteen took part and as a team successfully completed the one hundred miles. In all cases (he events were enjoyed by all and as a result the marchers have since passed their BFT. Those who took part in the events were W 2 Humphries, Staff Sergeants Ellis and Smith (RAPC), Sergeant Kielman, Corporals Gowans, Pannell, Sullivan, Walker, Wilde, Lance Corporals Barsby, Bartram, Privates Singh and Seymour. Apart from going through a heavy personnel turnover we have had an influx of ' executives' in the form of Major Ewers as SPO, Captain McGrellis as ASO, Captain Burrow as APO, and Lieutenant Carey as Training Officer. We regret to report the loss of WOl ' Digger' Denholm to Bicester. Apart from captaining our rugby team which won the Army Cup, he will be missed for his contributions to other activities one of which included WOIC Ammunition Sub-Depot! We wish him and his family best wishes for the future. Our congratulations go to: Lance Corporal Ramsey, Privates Dalby and Fenney on their recent marriages and wish them success in the future. Sergeant Dovell, Lance Corporal Scaife and their wives on the births of their sons. Sergeant McShane, Lance Corporals Bartlett, Golden, Spears and Thomson on their recent promotions. Welcome to: Sergeant White, Corporals Brown, Burton, Crowhurst, McNeill, Morris, Sheehan, Stevenson, Terry, Wright, Lance Corporals Collins, Goodhall, Lord, Privates Dewhurst, Hawkins, Healey, Pascoe, Scott and Tomkinson. He was replaced by Staff Sergeant Dave Crabbe, who, conveniently, had just returned from a RQMS/CQMS course, having gained an 'A' grading—con- gratulations. MSSD are the next to get a mention; W 2 Barry Daunt has found out what FOD means, but will not tell our new WRAC Corporal Helen Edge. Now that Corporal Bill Richards has been posted, OC Captain John Sustins has requested that the next time he goes fishing could he get him a new bike! At CDP Corporal Lofty Young refuses to swap his Hong Kong posting with Corporal Chris Proctor. Corporal Alan Simpkins is a much happier man now that his wife has arrived— he no longer has to live on ' burgers and play a guitar for entertainment' (Lance Corporals Tony Bromilow, Roy Kettyle and John Simpson say with practice he could be good). Lance Corporal Tony Franklin, our judo expert, and his wife, are con- gratulated on the birth of their daughter, also Corporals Bill Harrison, Pete Butler REME, John Christian, Pete Sherwood, Lance Corporals Archie Howson and Paul Airey—and their wives, who have also had recent additions to their families. Congratulations also to Staff Sergeants Tony Griffiths and Graham Smith REME, on gaining their sub-promotion, and to Lance Corporal John Lowry REME on his promotion. Still remaining on a congratulatory note, a special mention should be given to Corporal Ian Grimes, who has achieved what we believe to be a Corps record. In February this year, Ian was not qualified for promotion, so he set out to get himself qualified for the board in September, or be discharged. Prior to departing from Belize, he passed all subjects for EPC and then departed for Dulmen via ETS, Deepcut, where he attended a Bl Support Clerk course, and passed. On arrival in BAOR he still required to pass a RPC1 course. This he did in July, thus gaining EPC, RPC1 and Bl in five months. Now that he is qualified, he is saving for his Mess Dress (take note, M and RO). Loans and Repair Sub-Depot have reported that there is no truth in the rumour that they are called golf and despair. Major Tom Cowan is a bit worried as he will soon be losing a lot of his staff, but as Lance Corporal Dave Duxbury is in the process of changing from driver to Support Clerk,*he should be OK for a short while. Stores Sub-Depot (not Group) are still under the watchful eye of Major John Wright and WOl Paddy Starrett and after being beaten recently at football, they look forward to playing the rugby match. To return to the 'sanity' of Building 21, congratulations to Lance Corporal Mark Lewis on getting married and to Lance Corporals John Chrimes and Steve Davies on successfully com- pleting their B3 Staff Clerks course. After the reshuffle in the Building, Corporal Alan Hughes has applied for a resettlement course with 'Pickfords' and WOl Pat Moore has taken up garden- ing—in his office. Finally, Sergeant Nigel Radford, our new Orderly Room Sergeant, would like to make it clear that al- though he is Sergeant Micky Binks replacement, it is only in the office and not in the cross country team! fjIEVES & I-IAWKES I Mail Order Department 22The Hard, Portsmouth, Hampshire POI 3DY Gift Vouchers are supplied in a folder. FORWARD AMMUNITION DEPOT GREETINGS from the planet Wulfen. Whilst on holiday recently I was asked on a few occasions by military and civilians (i.e. booking into camp sites): " Where do you come from?" " Wulfen," I reply. " Where?" " Wulfen." Hence welcome from the planet Wulfen. We are the third star on the left, south of the planet Mun- ster. Now you know where we are I will try to update you on the happenings in this illustrious establishment. Have you heard the tale of the Ammunition Technicians motor car? In Norway on holiday Corporal Chris Markham, proud owner of a new 1600 Ford Escort failed to circum- navigate a boulder which had fallen into the road and hit a wall. The Escort now has broken teeth, dislocated wings and a broken spine. Luckily said Corporal escaped injury as did the glasses he was carrying in the back of the car. Not so lucky, was the SSO, whose three motoring offences in four days brought forth claims of Victimisation! Any offers for a four and a half month old Dagenham dustbin? There is a certain driver in this establishment who — 161 — |
