Royal Brunei Malay Regiment' VERY little has been happening here during the fasting month of Ramadan. We said farewell last month to W 2 Dennis Irvine who is off to Kineton and Staff Sergeant Taffy Joseph REME (Honorary Member of 1 Logistics Club) who is off to BAOR. We wish you both and your families every success for the future. Bruneisation is well underway and we are maintaining 1983 as the cut-off date for RAOC Loan Service support in the Regi- ment. The new Depot complex will cost £3,000,000 and is expected to be ready by mid-1983. We are keeping our fingers crossed and hope there will be no slippage on completion date. Our congratulations to Lieutenant Steve Emerson on com:. mission. We hope you had a good trip through America especially Disneyland! Congratulations to W02 Dennis Irvine on being selected for WOl on the last Promotion Board. To past members of RBMR we wish you all " Salamat Hari Raya." § BATUS P THE main event was the visit of the LOA Review Board which led many members to the painful conclusion, having completed their questionnaires, that expenditure exceeded income., Corporal Panter (attached to AAC) and wife Barbara are to be congratulated on the birth of their daughter Erin Mary. This month it is the turn of the Ammunition Platoon to be exposed to the public eye. Conveniently located one thousand five hundred and thirty nine metres (curtain wall) North of the seat of power surrounded by prairie, gophers and rattle snakes, 'Sleepy Hollow' as it is known, is rarely visited although it is rumoured that the Second-in-Command tried once. Under the stern control of WOl Roger Crisp ably assisted by Sergeant Dave Little and civilian staff Chris Matthews, Russ Bohne and Yvette Schmaltz the platoon is responsible for all Battle Group ammunition requirements. During the summer months the platoon strength is increased by a myriad of Am- munition Technicians, Supply Specialists and Battle Group personnel. Present staff includes Sergeant Kwabewa Nketia (Ben to all) who smiles his way through the day whilst Corporal Mick Ravenscroft ponders his never decreasing pile of am- munition empties. Sergeant Peter Rosser can be seen fleetingly between Battle Groups writing reams of Swingfire Defect Reports and occasional FMTs. A transient AT population monitors Battle Group SS11 firings. To date we have seen Sergeant Graham Busby, Staff Sergeant Egor Gordon-Baker (reputed to have invented Swingfire) and Staff Sergeant Jim Collins. It is with regret we say farewell to Captain Alan Taylor, wife Rose and family who are returning to UK in preparation for his tour with the Belgian Army Staff College in Brussels. We, sadly, have to record the departure of Mrs Judi Matthews who has worked in the Ammunition Platoon for a number of years. We wish her every success in her new appointment. We also say farewell to Lance Corporals Marshall and Magor, and Privates Mills, Beasly, Brown, Spillings and Regan. ASSOCIATION NEWS Birmingham Branch WE of the Birmingham Branch were extremely sorry to hear of the death by accident of Brigadier Bromham, and members have asked that in this letter we should express our sympathy to Mrs Bromham, and her family in their sad and sudden loss. The Brigadier in his life set a great example, not only as a fine officer but as a fine gentleman. He will be missed and remembered by so many. Members of our Branch did attend the funeral service at ChilWell Garrison, and were particularly struck by the way Mrs Bromham and her daughters so bravely bore the strain and stress of the full military service. Our Secretary, Harry Arkinstall, and our Treasurer, Len Robottom recently represented the Branch at a service of dedication of a new standard of the Birmingham Branch of the Welch Regiment Comrades Association at St Lukes Church. The Branch was also represented at a similar type of service at St Martins in the Bull Ring when the standard dedicated was that of the Birmingham Branch of the Burma Star Association. — 170 THE RAOC GAZETTE ADVERTISEMENTS If you live anywhere north of Watford Gap, driving , home from the Channel Ports can be a shattering experience.
