SPRING MEETING. This year on 22nd May at Blackmoor we had what must be close to a record number of forty nine entrants—a lot of whom delayed their decision to play until after the entry deadline. This, together with permanent rain and late arrivals, led to an interesting and somewhat chaotic day which was thoroughly enjoyed by all who took part. Eventual winners were:—Championship Cup, WOl Bowen; Hill Trophy, Major Clayton; Division 1 Handicap Cup, Lieutenant Colonel Upton; Division 2 Handicap Cup, Captain Taylor; Scratch Cup, WOl Bowen; Captain's Cup, Staff Sergeant Hooper. CORPS GOLF REPORT ARMY GOLF. Two teams of five members of the RAOC Golfing Society were again entered for the Army Championships held at Prestwick in May. Although we can record no success some valuable experience was gained. Seven soldiers also took part in individual competitions and the hopes of Corporal Gray becoming the first ever Army Champion three years in succession were quite high after the elimination stroke play round. Unfortunately, he was unable to maintan his form in the first round of the match play knock- out element of the championship and was beaten by Captain Fleming RA. However, the Corps has maintained a high level of success in Army competition when, once again we won the AGA inter Corps Championship at Tidworth in June. We entered two teams of four with players from both BAOR and UK. Un- fortunately, the teams opposed each other (after a successful first round) when the A Team justified their selection by beating the B Team by fourteen holes to two. The final between the A Team and REME demonstrated our strength when we ran out winners by a comfortable margin. Our congratulations go to Corporal Gray, WOl Bowen, Staff Sergeant Ladley and WOl Kearney for retaining the trophy for the Corps. At Unit level the Army Golf Challenge Trophy was retained by the Training Centre team consisting of Major Mollett, Major Lucas, Major Ansel and Staff Sergeant Young. This unique achievement of winning the trophy for the second time in succession sets a high standard to be maintained next year. Finally, in Army competition, Corporal Gray retained the AGA Army Stroke Play Championship to add to his BAOR Championship. AUTUMN MEETING. The Autumn Meeting was held at the High Post Club. Although there were slightly fewer participants this year two days of excellent weather was enjoyed and some of the golf played was somewhat exceptional—a net sixty four on the first morning secured the Jeans Cup for Lieutenant Colonel Brian Allen. Major Ray Ansel miscalculated and won the Rose Bowl for the price of a one stroke reduction in his handicap. ' You really must get the bogeys sorted out before you return Stateside Ray!' Our congratulations go to W02 Eden of DSCS who convincingly won the Brownlee Putter with fifty four holes of steady play and to Major and Mrs McLachlan who secured the Bush Cups with a fine Stapleford score of thirty three points. Other trophy winners were:—Major Dickenson, Deepcut Trophy with a gross seventy six on the second moming; Major McLachlan, The Bogey Cup with plus one; Major Scaife, The Richards Cup with a net sixty seven; Major Dickenson and Major Scaife, The Open Foursomes with thirty three points. CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS THE 1981 Corps Championships are to be held on Thursday, 15th January at the Training Centre Deepcut. The race will start at 1500 hours. The DGOS will start the race and also present the prizes. CHRISTMAS IS COMENTG — CORPS ITEMS FOR SALE SOCIETY MATCHES. Once again the season has had its ups and downs in society matches. We thrashed the REGS to record our first ever whitewash winning margin of twelve matches to nil. We also established a near record in being beaten by R Signals by ten matches to two halved. It was an enjoyable season in which we retained the Pioneer Cup by halving with REME and the King Putter by beating the RAMC and RADC GS. Both matches were very close and were decided on the afternoon foursomes. Some twenty two members of the Society asked to be selected for various matches and, in keeping with traditional policy, all were offered at least one game. The full results of matches played were: — Against RA Lost 5^ to 6\ Piece of Ordnance RAPC Won 8i 3| RE Won 12 nil RAEC Lost 5i 3| RCT Won 6i 5* REME Halved 6 6 Pioneer Cup RAMC and RADC Won 6| 5 | King Putter „ R.
