Photo Staff Sergeant Slade RAOC. Captain Robin Sider, OIC Football at COD Donnington presents a Donnington ' T ' Shirt as a memento to Craham Turner, Player Manager, of Shrewsbury Town FC after the presentation of awards by Mr Turner to the winners of the Boys Summer Coaching Scheme. Kong. Then there's the arrival of the new Orderly Room Sergeant, Sergeant Boyer from the 1st Battalion Irish Guards. All welcome to him, it is most unusual though to see a Mick cap-star atop a six foot plus tall sergeant-clerk in an RAOC Orderly Room! Perhaps this would explain why RSM Clarke has bought a motor bike. Nothing else seems to. Yet again, sport reared its ugly head this month wherein the soccer team (decimated by Crusader) managed to beat RAF Valley plus ' Honeysuckle' seven four and one nil respectively. The OC, Major Richard Powell seems to be filling his evenings, now emptied by the end of the Edinburgh Tattoo, by furious scribings as befits a member of the Army Piping Committee but he has also recently completed both the pro- RAOC Assurance Association 18 Chequers Square, Uxbridge, Middlesex Tel. (STD 0895) 53444 duction and the recording for an RAF record. One is given to wonder if he ever gives serious thought to World War Three? Welcome to Staff Sergeant Tanner, Sergeant Dickinson. Privates Denton, Fichter and Hall. Marriages: Lance Corporal Whittall to Christine Jones. Private Tyson to Debbie Sharp and Private Kirkby to Frances Jackson on 16th August. Shrugging off indifferent Sunday League form, the COD got down to the business of lifting their first major trophy of the season when they outgunned the mighty Prince of Wales Division in the District six-a-side championships, and thus qualifying for the Army finals, the second time in two vears. The team beat Tels and Radar REME, the SAS and 522 Com- pany RPC on their way to the finals, where they got off to a shaky start and found themselves two goals down within minutes and it wasn't until the break that the COD's rhythm clicked with the magic of footballer of the year Sergeant Geordie Holliday who, although playing in a sweeping role, grabbed three goals. POW fought back and equalised and only fine 'keeping by Corporal Pat Gardiner kept them from going ahead: but it was Donnington who took the lead. Sam Paddison, already nursing a bad cut, pounced on a loose ball. passed to Brian Smith and the team striker slotted home. Lance Corporal Abe Crawford gave the kiss of death to the POW. The Scottish midfield genius dribbled past three men and let fly a blistering shot which gave the keeper no chance. Ironically, the trophies were presented by Lieutenant Colonel Mike Major, Chairman of Western District AFA. Central Ordnance D e p o t Bicester --, / C I ^ N J / (~^r^\ / .... E . ..A SSO BRANCH. Congratulations to Lance Corporal Avis Thorpe on her promotion. There is some doubt as to whether it is the result of her athletic prowess or being the SSO's driver. By the time these notes are printed she will have completed her ***§"**• B2 course at Regent's Park and we are confident that she will be successful. Evidently as part of the course one has to drive a bread van round London. Corporal Maggie Devlin has surprised us with her contacts at Records Office be- cause she has been warned for a return posting to Viersen in early 1981 and we are pleased to add that another stripe goes with the job. 2 SUB-DEPOT. Highlight of the month was the presentation of the award for the best Junior Trainee by the Commandant, Brigadier Cooke. Mr Robert Sessions was judged the best, and presented with a cup and cheque for £25. After the presentation the 2 Sub-Depot All Voice Choir sprang into action and Brigadier Cooke retired for coffee to the strains of Happy Birthday Dear Richard!! We hope he never finds out which Lieutenant Colonel from 2 Sub-Depot told us it was his birthday. We say welcome to Captain John McDonald RAAOC who 2 % D i s c o u n t — special U.K. scheme motor insurance. Available to all Corps Members past and present.
