Transcription Ben Bienkowski was not too happy either; in fact he turned
green. Carlsberg green.
Recklinghausen Garrison decided on their own initiative, to
kidnap the aforementioned short term subaltern. It would seem
that Michael had been extolling the virtues of Ammunition Tech-
nicians and doubting the heritage of Vehicle Specialists and
RAOC Drivers. I will not divulge the names of the kidnappers.
Okay Len, Harry?
Units are still staging through but this is now on the return
phase. There are now a lot of tired but happy faces. (A
separate report on the Staging Area will be forwarded for next
month's notes).
They said it was an exercise (more like a skive to me). It
was decided that our new (?) Chief Clerk W02 Ken Quinn
would defect to his married quarter with a secret document.
The time it took to find the Q it would appear the Intelligence
Corps should be exercised more often, particularly as the writer
had to do his shift.
I'd like to mention all the Units that have been attached to
Wulfen Garrison during this phase of Crusader but the list is
far too lengthy. Two particular Units stand out: 1 Royal Scots
for the hard work on the Staging Area (Well done Jocks) and 5/8
Kings for their assistance on defence. I believe that without the
Kingsmen we would have had a very tired Unit.
We welcome Private Share from the factory and say fare-
well to Corporal Mike Knox, thank you Mike for ably baffling
the cricket team and your support as a thespian. Congratulations
go to Corporal Lilley on his recent marriage and to Private
Ellison on promotion to A/Lance Corporal.

AT the time of writing Headquarters RAOC 1 (BR)
Corps is safely ensconsed in Tofrek Barracks for
the duration of Exercise Spearpont. The exercise
was a success from the Ordnance point of view.
Brigadier Skinner spent the whole of the exercise
visiting all the Regular, TA and Shadow Units in
1 (BR) Corps. His visits often necessitated early
morning calls from Staff Sergeant Keith Honeysett
and we are not quite sure whether it was the early
call or Staffs dulcet tones but CCRAOC never
missed his flight.
We were fortunate to have with us on the exercise the DOS
New Zealand, Lieutenant Colonel P. Reid RNZAOC. We hope
that he had an interesting time with us and that his early mora-
inglruns are not introduced into the daily routine of the British
Army.
" The Commanders Cup Competition has started its winter
phase and Captain Glenn Gillott is busy trying to rally Staff
Clerks who are willing to give ' their all' on the sports field.
The Cross Country is the major event before Christmas and it is
rumoured that even WOl Tony Mottram will participate.
Major Dan Putt is hoping that against all odds he will be
allocated a Quarter before he is posted next July. The Operation
Reunion will be very welcome when it finally arrives.
We say goodbye this month to W02 Paul Rogers, his wife
Jacquie and their two children. W02 Rogers, is off to Hong Kong
for a blissful two years. Our best wishes go with them all and
we thank W02 Rogers for all the hard work that he has done
in the past three years. In the same breath we welcome W02
George Mathers and family all the way from Block 3, Ripon
Barracks, and hope that they have a successful and happy tour
with us.
" Bill—who demanded this kit for Crusader?"
lads, especially those from UK. Blast me if they aint turned up
from as far as the Hebrides, Chilwell, and dahn to the Depot,
Welcome all!
Major Bob (the whip) Lawton has got the Combat Supplies
Company into shape. Me and my resident BAOR muckers didn't
reckon the lads from UK could get here in time but they did,
their tasks went well and their all particularly proud of one
incident when they moved four hundred tons of ammunition in
fourteen hours whilst dressed in full noddy suits and gasperators.
Lots of 'eavy breavin, right W02 Gumbs?
Fings seem to be goin well, the supplies keep comin and the
tanks are rollin. All the lads in the rear areas take a bow you're
really pushing the kit at us. A few mistakes; like a lorry load
of kit for Kenya and uniforms foe an Irish Guards Parade, but
generally alls well.
1st Armoured Division
Dear Editor,
I apoligise for the scruffy paper on
what these notes is ritten but its somewhat
difficult to git Basildon Bond paper 'ere in
the trenches below Hannover. Yes, you've
guessed it I'm writing from somewhere in
Germany, I believe I am near xxxx (officially
censored). Along wiv lots o my mates I am
on Exercise Spearpoint, part of Exercise
Crusader, 'elping to provide materiel support
for 1st Armoured Division (The fighting
First—I reckon).
Just abaht everyone is 'ere all the normal divisional RAOC
Units plus those from 7 Vield Force. The censor has ordered me
not to mention them all by name but it's great to tell you that all
