Field Force. Sergeant Dave Jamieson, Corporal Jimmy James and Lance Corporal Geordie Cramman are doing something at Pombsen. Corporal Ron Damen has been attached to the RMP for the period of the exercise and is quite happy patrolling Mun- ster town in a RMP Rover and assisting in traffic control and convoy escort. I believe he is taking his duties seriously as I hear him saying when he is off duty " Hello, hello, hello." The OC, Major Haden who is the senior logistic umpire' for 2nd Armoured Division on the exercise has as his team Sergeants Ron Eden, NCO IC Box body Jack Frost, Lance Corporals Bob Phillips, Scotty McNaim and radio operator Private Tom Hawken. During the exercise preparation Jack Frost could be seen swinging the bumper on the floor of the box body in rhythmic movements and could also be heard singing " This is the way I polish the floor, polish the floor, polish the floor." Two days after the start of the exercise a message was received by the rear party to the effect that a Rover was required with two drivers to replace the OC's Rover which had crashed. As I write these notes a week later the drivers are standing by with the replacement Rover but don't know where to proceed! We are still frantically trying to contact the OC and his team. The PC and A Office in the past weeks has been overcrowded with a number of potential Supply Clerks. It has become so over- crowded that desks are a scarcity. There is a question going round the Unit " What is the connection between PC and A and the duty keys?" In the Storehouse W 2 Ron Ferguson and Staff Sergeant Mick Gannon are trying their best to break up the arguments and fights over vouchers. They seem to be doing well as everything seems calm over there! STORES PLATOON 15 FIELD WORKSHOP THE avid GAZETTE reader may think that it is a long time since we contributed, however that is not strictly true as most of our members were for the period March to August part of the Northern Ireland Roulement Workshop and under this name our ' adventures' were recorded in THE GAZETTE. We welcome (belatedly) Staff Sergeant Roger Blackwood, Lance Corporals Paul Cartwright and Steve Walker and Private Mark Harvey and we congratulate Paul and Steve on their recent promotion. We have also said goodbye to W02 Kevin Reardon, Lance Corporals Steve Prowen and Steve Whittaker. Best wishes to all of them. I EVES & HAWKES Mail Order Department 22 The Hard, Portsmouth, Hampshire POI 3DY At the moment Corporal Tom Povey is checking his life insurance as he has been given the job of teaching Private ' Scooter' Foye to drive. Perhaps things would go better if the lessons were to take place in UK as Scooter insists on driving on the left! Tom recently celebrated his birthday, (I won't say which one) in the Unit JRC where Lance Corporal Stan Preston is at present making a fortune on the bar. Staff Sergeant Benny Gorbould is away on a Service Funds Accounts course so perhaps on his return he will be able to help Stan count his profits! Corporals Joe Leatherbarrow and Chippy Wood have recently joined the ranks of the car owners much to the delight of our OC Lieutenant Simon Hall, who is without a car at the moment and is always looking for lifts. Private Sid Rutter unfortunately is unable to help out as his car is ' in- capacitated ' due to an unfortunate accident. That's the last time Sid will lend anyone his car! Private Paul Tonks has made the momentous decision to get married and is at present learning about the mysteries of the AIO- Congratulations go to Paul, whose marriage will be taking place next year, that is if we all last until next year as Roger Blackwood's Physical Training runs have recently been causing a few aches and pains! Both Roger and Benny Gorbould are fit- ness, fanatics and we are all slowly trying to get up to their level. It would be so much easier if we could just persuade them to come down to ours! Just a quick mention for our two stalwarts from 12th Armoured Workshop Stores Platoon, Corporal Brian Low and Private Pat Doherty, both at present out on Exercise Crusader. We only wish we could be out with them, but unfortunately we weren't invited—such is life! 3rd Armoured Division HEADQUARTERS RAOC SPEARPOINT/CRUSADER is over. The many months of preparation and hard work brought a reward of a satisfying and efficient exercise. Headquarters RAOC under the direction of Lieutenant Colonel Malcolm Parry-Davies, the Chief Ord Umpire, monitored the vital logistic tasks of outloading, inloading and resupply. The Chief Ord Umpire was assisted in the task not only by his own staff but also by many other members of the Corps who joined the Umpire Team for this mammoth exercise. We have had the pleasure to entertain many Commonwealth visitors and observers who included Lieutenant Colonel Piers Reid, DOS New Zealand. The co-operation and enthusiasm shown by all those in- volved lead to a very successful conclusion and the many lessons learned will be invaluable to future planning. The plains of Hildesheim also afforded more practical applications. Major Steve Thornton and Captain David Caldwell fresh from the rarified atmosphere of Korbecke had no trouble in returning BFT passes. Corporal Ron McKaig also passed the test so that he can get down to some real celebrating prior to his posting to Northern Ireland. We welcome in his place Lance Corporal Terry Shepherd or D'Artagnan to his friends. We wish both the very best for their new posts. The highlight of the exercise was W02 Danny Danvers first chopper flight in twenty three years and it's so much easier than flapping your arms isn't it Danny? Gift Vouchers arc supplied in a folder. ORDNANCE COMPANY THE rugby and football teams are off to a very good start this season, both having some good victories under their belts prior to going into the competitive cup matches. Congratulations are due this month to Staff Sergeant Connors, on his promotion from A/Staff Sergeant, to Corporal Mclntyre on his promotion from A/Corporal and to Lance Corporal Watson on his promotion from Private. For the second month in a row we have had many more ' postings in ' than ' postings out.' Welcome to Sergeant Northcott, Corporal Procter, Lance Corporal Fleming and Private Billington. Our best wishes go to Corporal Williams posted out this month. Our new Second-in-Command, Captain Inlow arrived this month. He has been detached to the company from the Canadian Forces for a three year tour. His last five years has been spent in a Staff job in Canada. We have therefore arranged the follow- ing series of lectures for him:—(a) Introduction to the sleeping bag in the field by Second Lieutenant Tindle. (b) The art of good ' stand-to's,' presented by 'Sergeant Elsworth, and (c) Who to trust on exercise? — 201 — |
