Transcription Lieutenant Hurst, who was detached to the Company from
the RMC Shrivenham for one month is due to leave us any day
now. The Chief Clerk, Staff Sergeant Lee does not expect
reparatory work in the Orderly Room filing cabinets to take
more than one week!
wurst. The CQMS and helpers did a good job putting up
tentage and stores and when they went back on Sunday to
clear up, surprise, surprise, there was still some beer left! The
band of the 15/ 19th Hussars kindly provided a 'German
Band' for the evening and brought along their families to
enjoy the hospitality.
At the start of August it was Libori Week in Paderborn.
Lots of evenings out there. Why did Hissing Sid get lost?
The posting front has also been very busy, we welcome
the following to the hill, Sergeants Nobby Clark, Mick Gritton
and Judy Garland, Corporals Wilf Davics and Geoff Palir, and
Privates Doubtful Doughty, Tony Govicr, Dave Hindle (from
44 Company) Ken Patterson and our new REME Erk, Crafts-
man Stew Grout.
Congratulations to Corporal John Ridley and Private Taff
Williams on their recent marriages and Staff Sergeant Colin
Cooper on the arrival of a new Master David Cooper. The
CQMS Ken Nightingale also deserves special mention having
reached that point in his life where he can choose between three
BFT tests.
The final word must go to Lance Corporal Yorky Nesbitt,
who was the Individual Champion and a member of the BAOR
Team which were runners-up in the recent Joint Services Free
Fall Championships. More of Yorky's exploits in a later issue.
HEADQUARTERS
SOEST
GARRISON/
•TASK FORCE FOXTROT
NO I hadn't heard of it. I telephoned friends and they had
never heard of the Headquarters either. Of course, everybody
had heard of Soest and could tell many tales of the times they
spent on exercise with the Canadians in Soest but of this Head-
quarters, never a mention.
I searched through back copies of the Corps GAZETTE—to
no avail. What had I done to deserve a posting to an un-
heard of Headquarters? Visions of exile were floating across my
mind, I knew complaining about delays in receiving my Corps
GAZETTE would catch up with me sooner or later.
At last I arrived and surprise surprise, a rose by any other
name TFF is Headquarters 6th Armoured Brigade in disguise
and is manned by Staff Clerks who are alive and well.
The clerical support of this Headquarters is as follows: —
Sergeants Dave Pritchard and Manny Livingstone, Royal Scots;
Corporals Martin MacCarthy and Gary Hughes and Private
Timothy Hewson—and of course, I am also here, WOl Kevin
Hartley. Our II QMS is W02 Ben Turner, DERR; and the
NBC NCO is Corporal Fred. Welland, Parachute Regiment. The
Commander's driver is Corporal Philip (Dipstick) Lord. The
clerks are well supported by a civilian staff: Herr Max Somer-
field, Mrs Sonia Spence, Mrs Sarah Salter, Mrs Salley Lee, Mrs
Sue Funnel and Mrs Margaret Downes. It is only a small Head-
quarters but has a lot of Corps strength.
Congratulations to Corporal Mays on passing his EPC with
a distinction in Military Calculations, also to Lance Corporal
Hughes and Private Hewson for bringing a little class and in-
telligence to a recent TFF Signal Squadron driving course.
Now we are in THE GAZETTE, readers may hear more from
us, and perhaps a photograph in a future issue—who knows?
The cry from Soest Headquarters is " we may be a small
Headquarters but never mind the size feel the quality."

ORDNANCE
COMPANY
^^•^^.
AS I write this, the Company is fully ready
^^H^^^k
to embark on Spearpoint—the final fling of
^^^H^^^A
Crusader 80. So our contribution this month
^^^"^^^*
is dedicated to our wives and also to the
wives of all members of the Corps and
indeed the Army. The source is unknown
and we take no credit for its originality. We
must first welcome new arrivals in Privates
Sugden and Flanagan and more blushing
brides Mrs Atkinson and Mrs Clissold to whom we express
our hopes for every happiness. Perhaps they will take note
of our dedication. (Printed on page 174).
Combat Supplies Battalion
NEWS from outstations will be a little
thin this month as we go to press
much earlier than usual because of
some exercise or other. Enough said,
though, since drafting notes for THE
GAZETTE is better done in the office
than some rain-sodden corner of a
wood. For only the second time in
living memory Grantham takes to the

field, which gives a truer indication of
the extent of the exercise than all the Public Relations currently
' doing the rounds.' While the world digests that portentous
comment here are:

Second Lieutenant Peter Gosney went off
on leave, with parents in tow, in that famous orange VW Beetle
affectionately nicknamed the " Rust Buggy."
The cries of
" He'll never make it," echoed throughout 44. The critics were
proved wrong, he safely returned from touring Germany, with
car!
Recreational activity in the form of sailing has taken an
upswing, with Lance Corporal , Denman patiently trying to
teach the Company.
Sporting news once again features predominately; the
Battalion athletics team comprising mainly 44 members com-
peted in two major athletics competitions: our Corps Athletics
finished fourth and BAOR Minor Units finished seventh.
Mention must be made of Lance Corporal Daisy Adams
outstanding performance in the high jump where he finished
first in the Corps.
The Company Cricketers are Sergeant Jed Stone, Corporal

The cold weather sports are starting again
even before the willow has been oiled and put away and the
last cucumber sandwich eaten. Staff Sergeant Andy Brathwaite
and Private Bob Tai have represented the Battalion at cricket—
on the winning side no less. The rugby and soccer teams are
in training and we look forward to winning a few cups.
We had a very good Anglo-German Barbeque in a new
Barbeque Hut built by the locat Stadt. The Karnival Com-
mittee organised it with help from our cooks, Corporal Dave
Crocker and Privates Paul Fenech with Gaz Barks IC Brat-
