Transcription Taff Oliver, Privates Aussi Reid and Toby Longman and
Lance Corporal Winnie Wynne considerably strengthened the
Battalion Cricket Team who eventually finished winners of
the 3rd Armoured Division competition.
Welcome to Corporal Oliver, Privates Boden, Dibling and
Mclntyre, last but not least Lieutenant Lillystone.
left us to have a baby. She has promised to come back when
the baby is born though. On the other hand we say welcome
to Mr Colin Devenish now employed in the Expense store and
to Mr Geoff Birchenall who replaces Miss Bender in Records
Branch.
49 RP COMPANY.
Last month's scribe omitted to mention the
Company summer ball, so better late than never, well done
Sergeant Epton and his team of willing (?) helpers, Sergeant
Murray, Corporal Calder, Lance Corporal Jones, Privates
Childs, Dunbar, Knibbs, Manning, Milicevic and Pepper.
Despite the OC's directive that the gymnasium floor was
not to be scratched or damaged, a good time was had by all!
We welcome back Lieutenant Bob McCallum from the
Ordnance Officers Course possibly a lot older but not look-
ing much wiser! Other ' n e w ' arrivals are the AO Captain
Pat Callan after seemingly endless weeks on holiday in Hong
Kong, and Captain Stuart Addy our roving ' Yorkshire Press'
reporter.
(Did you know they really do sell real ale in
Yorkshire?).
Captain Geoff Lynn is due to attend the Ordnance Officers
Course immediately after Speafpoint, look out Blackdown,
the white Alfa Romeo is coming for you! The CSM, W02
Moffat and the senior NCOs of the Unit can now make them-
selves even more comfortable in their bar after some expert
spare time carpentry by Private Frank Bird, it must be the best
small Sergeants Mess in Minden Garrison.
The MT has acquired a brand new Land Rover from
Antwerp, Private Wallace delivered the goods, after sampling
the delights of Antwerp and offering a ' come home, all is
forgiven' message to Private Morton, recently posted to
Antwerp. Sergeant John MacPherson is now getting broody
over a full complement of vehicles!
Finally, all ranks of 49 would like to point out that what-
ever BAOR Newspaper 'Sixth Sense' may say, 44 RP Com-
pany do not have the best Eager Beaver Operators, 49 RP
Company does!
RAOC Berlin
Corps Troops
CORPS TROOPS ORDNANCE
COMPANY
THE Unit took part in the Corps Troops Cross-Country Com-
petition recently. This was a gruelling.3.2 mile course up a lot
of hills and over what can only be called sand-dunes. The
Unit teams had to complete two laps of the course whereas the
remainder from the Units were given the option of going around
once or twice. A rumour that a non-team member voluntarily
went around twice is being investigated. Congratulations to the
Unit team, who won the competition, and in particular to Private
Mark Coulter, who came first in a staggering time of thirty six
minutes twenty four seconds.
We have, alas, had to say farewell to several people. W02
Norgate has left us for another stint with those fearless fighters,
the Commandos. His replacement is W02 Reynolds. To those
who have left, ' au-revoir,' enjoy your new jobs; and to those
arriving, welcome to Gutersloh, we hope you have a good time
here. We would also like to congratulate Private ' Jock' Mc-
Cormick, who has taken the plunge and is now engaged to Miss
Susanne Pollmeier, although the marriage will not be for some
time yet, or so he says!
Another important arrival in the Unit has been our very own
B47 radio (yes, they do still exist!). Communications at last—
even if we did have to borrow the radio shield, clamps, battery
cover etc. According to the Stores Company, the radio is just
the initial issue, the rest of the bits will follow in time. It's just
like buying a car where the engine and tyres are optional
extras!
THE outgoing GOC Berlin, Major General Richardson paid us
a farewell visit and joined the Officers for lunch in York House
Mess and we have shown the new GOC, Major General
Mostyn around parts of our domain on his initial visit to
Alexander Barracks.
Holidays have come and gone. Amongst the exotic lands
that featured in the itineraries of some of our members were
Berlin, Western Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Austria and Spain.
The Unit caravan at Lake Como in Italy has been well
used but WOl Andy Milroy went over the Pyrennes to Spain.
Rumour has it that he is trying to incorporate a bull fighting
arena in the new Storehouse and that the item Mat Door will
become Mat a Door!
Our outgoing Chief Clerk, W02 Fred Leversidge, is pleased
to announce the arrival of W02 Keith Kilgour from Northern
Ireland. W02 Leversidge has almost completed his ' 2 2 ' and
will be going to South Yorkshire, to be a swimming instructor
for handicapped children. A straight swop with COD Bicester
has brought W02 Dave Vincent to us in exchange for W02
Dave Bulmer. We also welcome Staff Sergeant Rod Hart on
promotion from the Depot and Training Battalion as our
CQMS and say farewell to W02 Len Rowland who has gone
to exercise his limbs around the Petroleum Depot at Waren-
dorf.
Our personality of the month is WOl John Craig from
14 Field Workshop Stores Section. The Craig family recently
celebrated the wedding of their daughter Vivian to Sergeant
Powell, RAPC and now all John's pay matters are handled
expeditiously! WOl Craig is an eminent tug-of-war coach (he
knows the ropes and has plenty of pull) and he also spends
some of his time on the golf course. His time in Australia
seems to have left its mark, for John can often be seen in the
summer sitting in his dressing gown on the patio of his palatial
villa in Darby Strasse. This is fine but at 9 am on working

STORES PLATOON CORPS TROOPS WORKSHOP
THIS month we had another of our famous Platoon parties ably
organised by Mr Keith Lee. He spends months beforehand
pestering us all to buy raffle tickets or to pay our contribution
to the football pontoon but it's all worth it in the end as we
enjoy a completely free evening. Private Murphy wondered if the
vanity case Captain Parry won in the raffle would be in use during
the exercise! He should know that it will and only one name will
go in it before it is drawn out again—a fatigue volunteer.
Congratulations must go to Private Emerton who although
he did not wear the rank, was paid as Lance Corporal during his
Northern Ireland tour. Well done indeed.
The Platoon has said farewell to Maureen Bender who has
