Transcription Adjutant, Captain Robin Sider, says he chose a quiet time to
attend his course (Personnel Selection Officers). Hurry back,
Sir, this ' quiet time' is going in your ' in ' tray.
Arrivals: Sergeant Taylor, Corporals Boswell and Paddison
(returned from tour in Belize), Privates Fudge, James, Peters,
Russell, Tarbuck, Maxwell, McHugh, Morris, Salmon, Goodall,
Wilkinson and Holder. Farewell to Lance Corporal Hendricks.
Congratulations to Lance Corporal ' D i c k y ' Bird on his
promotion to Corporal.
1 6 Battalion Bicester
WE have welcomed back those members of the Company who
went on Exercise Crusader. They obviously enjoyed their stay in
BAOR. We are also happy to report that they were all a credit
to the Company and the Battalion.
It seems to be in vogue to have doubles in the Battalion.
Private Paul Precious recently married W/Private Elane Wilcox
of D Company, so now there are two Privates Precious and
Lance Corporal Paul Bowden married W/Private Heather
Wilson, to create another Bowden in the Battalion.
On the sporting front, we reverted to our former position
by coming last in the Inter Company volley ball. However, we
are in training for the forthcoming seven-a-side rugby com-
petition (watch this space for a report next month).
We welcomed Corporal Carpenter and said farewell to Staff
Sergeant Graves, Lance Corporal Hogg and Private Blakey.
Congratulations to Private Yan Walker and Lance Corporal
Mary Mullock on their recent weddings also to Lance Corporal
Fritz Fehr on his addition to the family.
A COMPANY.
A Company heralds the return of the vital part
of 49 RP Company (Bicester Element) along with their esteemed
leader Major P. St C. Scriven. The real W02 Tommy Flowers
has got off to an electrifying start!
The Admin Officer, Captain Chris Hillier, has passed his
BFT, (he had to after Lance Corporal Steve Lynch passed his).
Congratulations to Lance Corporal Dave Ryan on his marriage
to Miss Christine Dwyer, Private Rab Pollard to Miss Christine
Stephenson and Private Pete Rich to W/Private Lesley Selwood.
New arrivals are W02 Bulmer, Corporals Lowe and
Christain.
Suddenly everyone is playing rugby—the Inter Company
Rugby Sevens Competition has been played and resulted in a
victory for Headquarters Company whose B Team never con-
ceded a point. The rumours now are that A Company are
hoping to challenge D Company to a rounders match, (or any
non contact sport).
Stop Press. A short article on the COD will appear in
Soldier Magazine in the December or January edition.
Central Ordnance D e p o t Chilwell
CHILWELL GARRISON has again been.
plunged ino a state of sadness with the
recent death of Major Phil Pash. He was
given a funeral in Chilwell with full military
honours followed by a service at Bramcote
Crematorium. We offer his wife Anne, the
children and all relatives our sincere and

A party from Chilwell have just com-

pleted a walk along the Pennine Way on
^""•"'"'^
Exercise Bromham Way and we hope to
have a full account of this for next month.
The ' Chilwell Life,' the monthly produced magazine in the
Garrison continues to thrive and has even had a recent upsurge
in quantity and quality of content. Whether this is attributable
to the acting editor, Major Davies or to ' Marilyn' (are they
the same?) whose articles about various males in the Garrison
provoke much laughter and a little embarrassment, is undecided.
Too infrequently, John Dargavel (ex UCSM) produces one of
his special ' Birds of Chilwell' and for those who have not had
the pleasure of reading one of these we hope to be able to
rectify this soon—so watch this space!
The local branch of the RAOC Association held their
annual ; dinner and dance in the Warrant Officers and Sergeants
Mess and had a former Commandant, Brigadier Davies, with his
wife, as their guests.
The Garrison Golf Society held their Autumn Meeting at
the second attempt after a waterlogged course last week and the
extra practice possible since the delay obviously contributed to
the close scoring. Major Newman from the Workshop won
the morning medal competition by one stroke with the third
placed player a further stroke behind and Major Thompson of
the Regimental Wing won the morning rabbits competition also
by one stroke. The afternoon stableford was won rather
more convincingly by Captain Wood of Planning Branch but
the other prizes throughout the day were evenly spread so that
in the end, all bar one competitor won a prize.
We welcome WOl Anderson and Lance Corporal Gray on
transfer from the Royal Scots and Private Pilkington and say
farewell to WOI Baldwin, Sergeant Pensom, Privates Crosswaite
and Robinson.
10 Ordnance Support Battalion
HEADQUARTERS
AND HEADQUARTERS
COMPANY.
The Company has suffered a great embarrassment this month
as a recent establishment change has thrown up ten surplus
soldiers! It makes a great change to be 'over the t o p ' and
as readers can imagine, calls to RAOC Records are now kept
to the minimum.
This month also sees the departure of
Lieutenant Colonel Eddison to LE(A) and the arrival of our
new Commanding Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Champion from
Blackdown.
47 UKMF(L) COMPANY.
The 1st of October saw the
reforming of 47 Company as 47 UKMF(L) Company. It has
taken two years to achieve this revival and many re-writes
to get it correct
Readers will also note that this change
clearly splits the Battalion establishment from the Petroleum
Centre, Westmoors. New sub-Units and new sub-Unit titles
are as follows:—170 and 270 Local Resources Sections to 1
and 2 Section of 1 Local Resources Platoon. A Section 2 Sup-
ply Platoon is new, 3 Detail Stores Platoon is new. 280 Petro-
leum Filling Platoon and 180 Bulk Petroleum Operating
Platoon to 1 and 2 Sections of 4 POL Platoon, Ammo Section
to B Section 5 Ammunition Platoon, 1 Bulk Transit Platoon to
6 Forward Supply Platoon and 160 Equipment Section remains
the same.
All this is commanded by Captain Peter Ball but the
Company's first OC will be Major Robin Smith, with effect from
the first of this month.
48 AMF(L) COMPANY. September heralded the build up to the
question " Will we go "? For a change we did and thus Exercise
Anvil Express took place in troubled Turkey. The advance party
discovered that the only purpose of a mosquito net was to trap
mossies in, not keep them out!
The chain of command took some temporary knocks and at
one stage a ' mere' section commander had the privilege of
holding the nightly O group. CSM Ray Scott made his appear-
ance felt, although Turkey is a dusty place, even for a new
broom.
Private Blinko remained with the Company throughout the
exercise and Sergeant Toni Biondic was flying out, with a
' bunch of grapes' even whilst others were flying in!
Some new methods were discovered for laundering both
the body and clothes, but the diesel shower is not recommended
by its inventor Staff Sergeant Stan Jenkinson and neither is the
dry powder both tried out by Captain Charles Emmett. Taff
Rowlands your monopoly is safe from POL.
Lessons were learned in tent erection, as Jock Cairney will
bear witness from his 'throne.* The Pizza Parlour under WOl
' Uncle Bob' Ross, is considering developing a retail outlet,
possibly to the main kitchens and ' the hills are alive with the
sound of music'— despite Captain Andy Wallace!
Finally, the Postings in and out: In W02 Brooks, Sergeants
Heath and Nott, Privates King, Reed and Cook.
Out: WOs2 Malin and Hulse, Staff Sergeant Lee, Sergeants
Allen, Turnbull, Lawrence ACC and Biondic and Corporal
Worthington RE.
Petroleum Centre
ALL the multitudinous parts of the Petroleum Centre have had
a busy month—The School of Petroleum has just concluded the
annual Officers Long Petroleum Course with an excellent
technical presentation and we say farewell to our Australian
guests, Captain Boyd and Flight Lieutenant Contessa. Cap-
tain Osborne and Lieutenant Ward have also left us.
At the final dinner night for the Course the Commandant
presented Lieutenant Ward and his fiancee June Mason with a
cut glass bowl for their forthcoming marriage. Flight Lieutenant
