Sergeant Donal of A Company receives the Inter-Company Cross
Country Cup from the Commandant, Colonel Stone.
New talent is coming to the fore and our standard of rugby
is showing improvement: special mention of Private Geordie
Bums in his first season of rugby scored his first try in the
latter match.
The Unit soccer team made a hesitant start to the season
with two successive defeats due mainly to fielding weakened
sides as a result of exercises and leave.
We were most unfortunate in losing six five to JLR RA
after extra time in the Army Cup. Captain Phil Martell and
Staff Sergeant Richardson RAPC have succeeded Major Roger
Thomas and Sergeant Howitt as ' El Supremos' of Station
soccer and our fortunes have improved of late with six points
from our last three games including a win against 522 Company
RPC which is akin to an ' England v Scotland' clash to Kine-
ton personnel!
This year a combined RAOC/RPC team have been entered
in the Banbury Sunday League and to date are unbeaten, top of
the league having scored forty four goals in five games!
With the Station Youth Club fielding two teams and our
Inter-Company League consisting of five teams, soccer is very
popular at Kineton and we hope this will reflect in our winning
of the Richards Cup (not to mention BFT results)!
The golf team continues to do well and with one match'
to play v Donnington we are second in the Western District
Inter Services League. In the District Autumn Meeting Staff
Sergeant John Hooper won the individual Stableford and to-
gether with the other 'A' Company ' bandit' Lance Corporal
Bob Whitley won the Regimental Pairs prize. The Kineton
Station Par 3 course is still very much used and the 1980
Matchplay Champion is Major Roger Thomas, with stroke-
play winner—yes you've guessed it—that man Hooper again.
There is no truth in the rumour that he is in fact a full time
pro' because he has been seen at work recently!
Those readers who follow the fortunes of ' walkers' will have
heard of Sergeant Paddy Cullen who has joined us in recent
months. He has formed a club within the station and they
have completed their first competition. It was a walk in aid of
SSAFA and in addition to Paddy Cullen the team consisted of
Staff Sergeant Bob Waller, Privates Bell and Hand and
W/Privates Edgcombe, Green and Long.
The team took seven hours to complete the walk, and was
the first team to finish. The three girls from Kineton were the
first three women to complete the course.
The club is now looking forward to the next walk and is
hoping to get some more recruits. Our main objective for
1981 is for a team of five people to walk the ' Fosse Way ' from
Axmouth in Devon, to Lincoln, and then to follow Ermine
St, to York, a distance of three hundred plus miles. This
will be in aid of charily, and there will be more information
later.

WRAC mentions this month include W/Privatc Edgcombe
who reached the semi-finals of the Services Individual Squash
Championships.
The WRAC held their annual camp within the confines of
the Kineton Area this year due to the budget restrictions and it
proved to be very successful. Many varied activities took place
including abseiling down the Fire Brigade rescue tower! QMSI
Larndcr our muscle man has yet to fully recover!
In B Company, the work is still coming in thick and fast
especially the inter Depot move. But we now have another
problem the IE(A) visit who reported to have said that they
can not find anyone on the wrong side of the ' wire.' Maybe
as a result of their visit we will be seeing a few more new
faces. We welcome to the Company Major Attwood the new
' O C Sergeant Keep on return from Cyprus, Staff Sergeant
Birchall. Lance Corporals Ellis and Gray and we say farewell
to Captain Armstrong (uncle Tom) who after many years with
the Company has now taken the post of ' Tech QM ' here at
CAD Kineton. Whatever next?
This month's issue finds 'A' Company hard at work pre-
paring for BFT. The Company has been split down the middle
and training runs take place every Monday and Friday morn-
ings. There is extra incentive this year in the form of a prize
for the Company which achieves most first time passes.
This month we have said farewell to Sergeant Chris Donal.
who has returned to the Commandos and Corporals Bond and
Islam. We welcome Corporals Markham. Harvey. Strong. Fodcn
and Hazeldine and Private Withers. Hope you all enjoy your
stay in Kineton.
PS. Has any reader ever wondered how he would feel if lie
was on a crowded London railway station hurrying to catch his
train wlien the lock on his briefcase fails and the contents arc
spread embarrassingly all over the platform! If so write to the
Commandant at Kineton and he will enlighten you!
Central Ammunition Depot Longtown
ONCE again the Sergeants Mess have lost a games night.
This time it was to the RAF at Spadeadam. Having endured a
trek into the back of beyond to get beaten didn't go down too
well, especially as the result was due again to losing the
boat race.
Presentation of Long Service and Good Conduct Medals
to members of our Fire Service was made recently by Brigadier
Findley, Deputy Commander North West District. Recipients,
with a total of one hundred and fifteen years service between
them, were Leading Fireman Ron Thompson, Firemen Bill
Johnstone, Jock Henry, John Harper and Tom Smith. Ron
with twenty three years fire service served in the Fleet Air
Arm during the Korean campaign and was awarded the
Korean Star. Bill Johnstone, twenty one years fire service,
has completed two tours in Northern Ireland and holds the
General Service Medal for that theatre.
RAOC Workshop (must be the only one of its kind) said
farewell to that old stalwart, Dave Wilson. Dave, an ex-Corps
WOl joined the Depot as a Foreman on demob after the war.
He served in various areas of the Depot reaching Stores Officer
Grade C before being compulsorily retired on 31st October
1975. Not content at the age of sixty to take things easy, Dave
was re-employed on 3rd November 1975, after a pleasant
' weekend ' break, as a Storekeeper within the Workshop until
that magical age of sixty five came round and created the
second compulsory retirement, although this time for good.
From all of us, Dave, may you and your wife have a very
enjoyable retirement.
Major Peter Price had to visit the BMH at Catterick
recently, the poor lad's getting on a bit now! He duly arrived
on the Monday morning for his appointment and was quite
surprised to say the least to find himself hustled into a bed
and being prepared for the knife men the next day. From
all accounts he made a remarkable recovery by the Wednesday
as he was most anxious to see his wife, Karen, depart after
visiting hours before his ' treatment' with the female physio-
therapist began! Joking aside, it was good to hear that he's
well on the way to a full recovery.
Congratulations to Corporal Kevin Cronin on passing
his EPC and to Corporal Peter Williams who recently passed
his pre ops course; he's off shortly to you know where early
next year.
Mrs Barbara Cuthbert from the typing pool made the news
last month. She won the two ladies cups in the South West
Scotland Tope Fishing Festival—one for the heaviest fish, the
other for heaviest weight.
