J5tto£ from ^broab Northern Army Croup RIGHT LADS!—Major Houseman says it's EPS's turn to write the notes for this month and not mention him, but where on earth will we find the time? Perhaps Lance Corporal Roy Bullough, our typist, can write them whilst travelling to Mul- heim to sit the colloquial German test (Con- grats, ninety one per cent pass mark), or Corporal Roy Bingham can whilst having his plaster cast strengthened; second time this year he's injured his ankle, rumour has it that he SCB'd on the orienteering work- out (Short-Cutting Bingham!). Welcome to Headquarters NORTHAG the following and hope their stay is as enjoyable as ours: Corporals Paul Callow and ' Chippy' Wood and Private Mick Demeza. Our heartiest congratulations also to Lance Corporals Joe Meecham and Mick Ford on being selected for promotion to Corporal on the recent board. Congratulations also to W 2 John Russell and Staff Sergeant Tony Grace on the award of the Long Service and Good Conduct Medal which was presented to them in the Garrison Sergeants Mess by the Chief of Staff, Major General Christian Shiinemann and witnessed by many of our NATO colleagues. We bid farewell to Corporal Kelly who leaves us on post- ing to Colchester, you'll be missed ' Kel' for your individual prowess on the soccer field both for NORTHAG and Rhein- dahlen Garrison. Every good wish to you and your family. The Corps was represented by W02 Doug Boshier and Private Mark Worrell; Staff Sergeant Tony Grace and Sergeant Jim Milligan in two recent orienteering events, each team earning first place. Corporal Kilpatrick is playing first team rugby for the ' Rhinos' alongside Sergeant Ron Mansfield of our Joint Public Information Office and the following are currently play- ing for Rheindahlen Garrison soccer team: Corporals Roy Bingham, Kel Kelly and Chippy Wood, Lance Corporals George Grant, Nobby Clark, Dick Chisolm, Stuart McDonald, and yours truly W02 Geoff Garratt. PS. Word has it, that for the first time in the history of Headquarters NORTHAG, three RAOC Officers were actually seen together in the same office, namely Major Houseman, Major Lee and Major Wainright could this be a conspiracy or do they have something in store for NATO? We have it on good authority that WOl Birchall in COMNORTHAGs office has employed five WRAC clerks in as many months, is this a record? Ammunition Inspectorate BAOR WITH Captain Harry Vaughan, W 2 Bob Cockbum, Staff Sergeant Barry Johnson, Corporal Frenchie France and Private Paul Thomas actually living in the field with the Combat Supplies people on Crusader, the remainder were left guarding the home fires. In two shifts led by SATO and ATO/W, a twenty four hour accident and EOD service was maintained for the whole of the Exercise. Shift one, namely WOsl Steve Harmon and Roger Bruce, with Corporals Pete Hurry and Mick Knox, engaged in marathon games of ' Risk ' well into the wee hours at the behest of SATO. One or two careers were at risk more than once as feelings ran high. Shift two led by ATO/W, Captain Geoff Cox were the more intellectually minded, solving puzzles and going blind playing TV games, among other things. This shift had the most tasks, with WOl Dave Young and Corporal Barney Scullion spending one and a half hours at one RV while the customer — 232 Unit observed from cover. Apparently they didn't want to compromise their position, so the team stood around like lemons while the Watchkceper tried to raise Exercise Control. Needless to say, the team were a little cross (sic). Staff Sergeant Jim Howe and Corporal Chris McAndrew had better luck with a suspicious box left in the location held by 20 Electronic Workshop. Placed by the US 82nd Airborne, it became obvious that the contents were the winnings in a crap game. The Exercise proper ended quietly with the TA leaving BAOR depleted of duty free booze, and literally tons of un- expended blank and pyros in BAOR Unit hands. It never ends, does it? Ordnance Depot Antwerp PARASCENDING came to Antwerp organised by Sergeant Paul Wilkie, our resident expert, ably helped by his wife Mrs Carol Wilkie and Lieutenant Colin Nisbett from the Apprentices College. It was a matter of concern whether ' The Hulk' Lance Corporal Rog Spicer would rise to the occasion, but this he did and on- many more occasions. Other naturals who sailed the Belgian skies were Captain Andrew Postance and his wife Angie. Mrs Maureen Freeman and her husband Corporal Bob Freeman, Corporal Jim Docherty and his wife Kay, Lance Corporals Billy Docherty, Jim Pow and Privates Mark Hughes, Taff Davies and Clive Young. There were others who sailed the skies, too many to mention, apart from Captain Richard Byrne who still shakes and marvels at the thought of what he had accomplished. A HOME of your OWN?
