We would like to extend a warm welcome to Mr John Bell and family our new ASFC BAOR, Sergeants Dick Watson and Ray Holliday are our new military members recently arrived. Departures this month were Mr Brian Smith, Staff Sergeants Paul Thayro and Sergeant Brian Taylor. We wish them all the best in their new posts. Mrs Ingrid Maullin leaves us for greener pastures to join her husband WOl Ken Maullin (late of this Unit), in Northern Ireland. Forward Ordnance Depot- Dulmen STORES SUB-DEPOT. Crusader now over, and little men re- appear from beneath the mushrooms. These arc not the ' kept in the dark mushrooms,' but clouds of the constant NBC attacks successfully overcome. Out of the gloom, two little rays of sunshine in the form of toddlers successfully delivered to Madams Bousficld, and Martin. As one suspects we now have two blcarly-eycd JNCO's wandering about the Bradley Binning trying to find some good excuse why they should try to improve the issue rate, instead of going home to do their fatherly thing. The SSD welcomes to its ranks Corporal Whitley and Private Bell and congratulations go to three new JNCO's in the shape of Lance Corporals Shore, Robinson and Martin. LOANS AND REPAIR SUB-DEPOT. Welcomes to the Sub- Depot are to be extended to Staff Sergeants Bob Ward and John Smith, Sergeant Rick Osborne, Corporal Taff Bannister, Lance Corporal Steve Edge and Private Jonah Jones. To make way for this sudden influx of staff we arc having to say goodbye and good luck to Staff Sergeant Brian Walker, Sergeant Mick Roper, Corporal John Christian and Lance Corporal Andy Stevens. For everybody else in BAOR the immortal words Endcx Crusader 80 meant that they could perhaps relax and get back into the swing of the old routine. We only wish it was the same for us, but of course it is only the beginning of the returns of the hundreds of tons of stores issued on loans for the exercise, and, needless to say they are not coming back in quite the same condition as they left. So really we would like to mention to all our hard working lads, keep up the good work—Crusader Lives On! MOBILISATION STORES SUB-DEPOT. Contrary to popular belief MSSD has not gone into hibernation in the aftermath of Crusader 80. We came through the war with no casualties except the coffee fund—which is ' broke.' The OC Captain Sustins said that we all enjoyed it, and that he is looking for- ward to the next time. The shed is getting back to normal under the watchful eyes of the two ' Q's,' Daunt and Smith. They maintain that their best work is always done from the sitting position. The time of year has arrived, for everyone to participate in the BFT and WOl Pat Moore is seen to burst into a large, toothy grin at the mention of the words. The offices are in turmoil yet again due to the redecoration programme, and the furniture is under the control of Corporal Allan Hughes who controls its movement with a whistle and hand signals. Sergeant Dennis Pitchfork is changing his title from S and R to furniture storage! We say goodbye to Sergeant Bob Morgan on posting and Lance Corporal Tinkler who is moving down to the shed and welcome Sergeants Alan Salt and Jack Ferris. HEADQUARTERS I ADMINISTRATION. We say farewell this month to Major Livingstone and Major Bebbington, both on posting to UK. and welcome in their places Major Tweed and Major Cantor. CDP 1. Corporal Lofty Young bids us farewell this month en route to Hong Kong, and we welcome Corporal Keith•Hornsby in his stead. The departure of a six foot six inch and the arrival of his successor, about five foot four inch, leads us to believe that nothing is exempt from the economy axe! 1st British Corps A HEADQUARTERS RAOC ^ ^ SPEARPOINT 80 is now well behind us and the M^. finishing touches have been put to the inevitable M m. PXR. ^ £ ^^L To his great relief Captain Henty has had his ^ H J^W posting order delayed by six months—we noticed ^ B ^m that it was announced after his farewell outing and ^ ^ ^ presentation had been booked! ^^ It is the silly season again and Staff Clerks and portly Staff Officers can be seen pounding their way around Bielefeld, not so much in an effort to fight the flab but to — 234 beat the deadline for passing the BFT; The aim is to pass it as soon as is legally possible after the last one. After all, with a good Stand Down over Christmas and the New Year it looks as if it will be a long, hard Christmas, not at all conducive to passing BFTs. On that note all of us at Headquarters RAOC 1 (BR) Corps would like to wish everybody in RAOC, wherever they may be, a Merry Christmas and a Very Happy New Year. STAFF CLERKS THIS month we introduce the staff of G Ops. Firstly Staff Sergeant Pete John is Chief Clerk of the branch and he is finding Ops a lot different from Admin. The second-in-command is Sergeant Charlie Bowden who apart from thinning on top rapidly is still quite young. Charlie is our COSMIC Sergeant and is very good at putting Jig- Saw Maps together for each exercise. Corporal Ned Kelly, an ex-Guardsman, is the Registry and Filing Clerk. Ned is shortly to enter a National German Marathon, ' after all the time he asks off,' he should give us a good result. The Ops apprentice or, as the GSOI calls him " Citron," is of course Private Phil Lemon. Wc must not forget typist Corporal Gill Earles WRAC. She's a real ' Girl Friday,' helping out whenever she can. Away from G Ops we welcome into the RAOC Corporal James from the Green Howards and Lance Corporal Robinson from the Parachute Regiment who have both remustered as Staff Clerks. We wish them well in the Corps. Congratulations to WOsl Charlcsworth and Ncary and Staff Sergeant Carr on substantive promotion, and to Sergeant King, Corporals Kemp and Hopkins on provisional selection to sub- stantive Sergeant. Also congratulations to Lance Corporal Gaskcll WRAC of R and D on promotion. Finally, welcome to WOl Robinson, Private Baskerville and Lance Corporal Tate WRAC. 1st Armoured Division THIS month we welcome Captain Wilson Brewer from Celle, who takes over the duties of Adjutant, from Captain Tim Cross, who leaves us for sunny Cyprus, where we wish him, his wife Chrissy and children a happy and enjoyable tour. Wc are now almost back to normal k after the rigours of Exercise Spearpoint, tf?jp»£cJ>-—gj?j2r>? which because of the good weather was ^6 '<JlQi^^' W quite enjoyable even if we did spend two days in Noddy Kit. As promised in our last notes, the Bar-B-Que turned out to be quite a success, the weather was kind to us, the beer flowed, the few games ie volley ball and tug-of-war, had spectators doubled up with laughter, the food was excellent and our resident DJ ' Raving' Jock Falconer ably assisted by Sergeant Ron Gray from Fallingbostel, up here on a ' liaison ' visit to the Head- quarters. (He found out that the beer tasted just the same). Later this month we have the Branch Fishing Competition, lines are being checked before casting in, as will the keep nets, if anyone is fortunate enough to hook anything. Corporal Bill Winchester and Lance Corporal Paul Ranger will be on hand, to de-hook the catch. Old boots will not be counted towards weight of the overall catch! A 79 SUPPLY DEPOT WE welcome to the Unit Lieutenant Bruce Collett, our new Second-in-Command, and his family, all the way from Hong Kong (some people get all the breaks) and also WOl Chris Lawrence, who has taken over CDP4. A sad farewell was said to WOl George Anderson, who is moving to Chilwell for seven months before hanging up his uniform for the last time. May all the Scottish good luck go with you George. The other Saturday evening we all went up to Head- quarters RAOC at Verden for a games evening, and a ' get to know one another' night. Although few games were played it was a most enjoyable evening with everyone well fed at the barbecue and thirst quenched at the bar. The return journey was an entertainment in itself. We really must do something about the standard of singing here! STAFF CLERKS. I can't remember the last time we had a mention so I'll start by introducing the AQ Staff. Starting at the top we have the Chief Clerk W02 Ray Pett (he is the one rattling the money tin). Staff Sergeant Roy Coe is our MS expert, — |
