Still on the congratulations theme acting Corporal Geoff Wood and one of our 'old boys' Lance Corporal Steve Whittaker appeared on the roll for promotion to Corporal, nice to see the hard work they've done being rewarded, well done both of you. Privates Dave Rutter and Paul Tonks have both signed on again, but we're still waiting for Lance Corporal Steve Walker to follow their example whilst Staff Sergeants Roger Black- wood and Benny Gorbould are still trying to get us fit to fight— at present most of us are fit to drop! 87 SUPPLY DEPOT STAFF SERGEANT ENNO OLDEN our Chief Clerk Supplies still has his share of problems with the installation and pro- gramming of the computer, and the 'go live' date has had to be postponed—yet again. We're assured that it has nothing to do with his regimental training instruction and he has promised to polish up on his fieldcraft. During the summer school holidays we sponsored two boys, both fifteen years old, for a two week attachment under the ' work experience' scheme operated by the local BFES School. The boys were employed in all functional departments of the Depot and took part in PT and other training periods. They have generally been given a broad insight into the RAOC with the result that they have both shown some interest in joining the RAOC as Junior Leaders. You puf your right arm i n — y o u r right leg out Strong and Reid support each other. Privates The football season has now started under the new manage- ment of Sergeant Brian (Clough) Robertson. After one hundred and eighty minutes of blood and thunder against 113 Provost Company RMP the Unit burst through to the second round of the Divisional Minor Units Cup. The OC was seen to be walking up and down the touch line muttering " Who was the clown who posted Private Jeff Jones . . . " The Unit is now entered for almost every match within BAOR this season—the things some people will do to reach Berlin. W02 Ron Ferguson has now taken on the Secretaryship of the Garrison Football League and has been dropping hints about backhanders . . . The Orienteering and Cross Country teams are now start- ing to warm up with W02 " I ain't having i t " Collinge and Lance Corporal Roy Rowlands grabbing anyone in the first ten places on BFT runs—they only have to learn to map read now. Sergeant Steve Singers our intrepid RAPC man, has now discovered the penalty for trying to use a hockey ball as a monocle—we wish him a speedy recovery! Everyone is now waiting for Lieutenant Cable to return from his NBC Course so he can continue his programme of winter activities—ski-ing must be high on every list with the enforced Christmas leave— who is complaining? We welcome the following to the ranks of the Company Staff Sergeants Ted Curtis and Paul Thayre, Corporal Mick Pays, Lance Corporal Roy Rowland, Privates Andy Gill and Jock McCluskie. And say farewell and thank you to Corporal Jimmy James, Lance Corporal Dave Dick and Private Tom Hawken for all their hard work. STORES PLATOON 15 FIELD WORKSHOP AT last almost all of our vacancies have been filled, (thank you Records and 5 Field Force Ordnance Company) so the last month has seen an influx, nay a deluge, of new manpower! We welcome Lance Corporal Martin Stevens and Privates Steve Richardson, Jeff Jones and Mick Callaghan and hope they all enjoy their stay. No doubt the Ordnance Company have mixed feelings about the help they have given us as both Martin and Jeff are talented Sportsmen,' Jeffs forttS being soccer and cricket and Martin being an accomplished runner at all distances up to marathon. Talking of sport we are well represented on the Unit soccer team of late with our OC Lieutenant Simon Hall, Lance Corporal Paul Cartwright, Privates Paul Tonk, Mick Callaghan and Jeff Jones all being regular members. Paul Cartwright has in fact had an excellent month as apart from his soccer exploits he has been selected for promotion to substantive Lance Corporal and passed his HGV 3 test. Well done Paul! Much credit for Paul's driving success must go to Corporal Tom Povey our Platoon driving instructor who coached Paul from scratch. Tom is also congratulated on qualifying for his Long Service and Good Conduct Medal. Work experience in the Supply De'pot. Congratulations to Corporal Ian McGill on his selection for substantive promotion and a sad farewell to Captain and Mrs Rowland who have left us for MOD—and his promotion. 3rd Armoured Division TWENTY FIVE years of service with the British Forces was marked recently be a presentation to Herr Heinrich Tim- merman at ASU Sennelager. Herr Tim- merman, a Deputy Chairman of the Works Council was presented with his certificate of loyal service by the CRAOC, k Lieutenant Colonel Malcolm Parry- Davies. Congratulations this month go to Staff Sergeant Art Matthews on his substantive promotion to that rank and to Lance Corporal Gordon O'Hara on his selection for promotion to Corporal. We bid farewell this month to W 2 Eddie Mayes (AQ Branch) who has now departed for Northern Ireland. We wel- come as his replacement W02 Lee. A ORDNANCE COMPANY DURING Spearpoint the Company was co-located with 80 Supply Depot and a number of excursions were arranged in- cluding one to the local VW plant—and another to the 574th Service Supply Company. The VW visit was a success with a full tour of the complex being undertaken and when visiting — 236 — |
