Inner Albanian War of Attrition (or somewhere similar—the finer points differ from person to person), I would be only too happy to take the test. Perhaps if I rested up until my fortieth/fifty fifth (delete where inapplicable) birthday, it will sort itself out." For those of you who have not yet sampled the delights of running a total of three miles in eighty five per cent humidity, it is akin to running along the bottom of a swimming pool. Those of you who have, are requested to take those silly smiles off your faces. It has been reported that while the Army element of the colony are in training for their BFTs, the profits of such charit- able organisations as The Popeye Club, The Pussycat and the Suzie Wong Bar, are down thirty per cent. It is hoped that matters will improve after the tests, as it would be a great shame to see these pillars of the establishment close down and the girls who work therein on the streets! Approximately two weeks after the BFTs, the survivors will be eagerly (?) awaiting the arrival of the LOA Review Team. In order to bribe, I mean keep them in a good frame of mind, all the stops are being pulled out to ensure they have an un- forgettable stay. Civilian transport will be provided by the Wanchai Hit and Run Vehilcle Co Ltd and the spare time of the review team will be organised by the Hong Kong Travel, Recreation, Information and Dalliance Society, known affection- ately as the TRIADS. We can only hope that after receiving such treatment, the team take it into account when making their recommendations. On the sporting side, the Corps Bionic Man, Sergeant David O'Neill, remains one of the mainstays of the colony's athletic scene after coming second, in a field of one hundred and twenty, in the Brooks twenty mile race at Sek Kong and again second in the arduous four mile Bowen Road Gallop. Not content to rest on his laurels, he is training hard prior to flying to Honolulu in November to take part, as the Corps representative, in the Honolulu Marathon on 7th December. Our best wishes go with him. (By the way, I bet he passes his BFT). Still with sport, but on a slightly less salubrious scale, the Tamar Lunchtime League needle matches in volleyball and five- a-side football between G Branch and AQ took place recently. Despite beating G in a knockout volleyball tournament last month, AQ were narrowly beaten in the league game. Revenge was sweet, however, when AQ won three two at five-a-side foot- ball. This result was due mainly to the brilliance of the AQ goalkeeper, WOl Phil Buxton, whose agility, sense of positioning and sheer blind luck prevented G from scoring double figures. Composite Ordnance Depot Hong Kong ON board the British Airtours Aircraft, designed for six-a-side rugby, the word ' Sorry' was used on numerous occasions usually preceeded by 'Ouch!'. On arriving in Hong Kong, after the seventeen hour flight, the warm evening air was refreshing. My mind echoed ' I'm here at last,' not because of the flight con- ditions but after twelve years of trying to impress my superiors I deserved the rest. On taking over the position of Chief Clerk Admin, Joe Addis said "All yours Joe, and by the way you're doing the Corps GAZETTE notes." Not taking him seriously, I said " Get Noted" and absolutely refused to put a serious pen to paper. Frantic phone calls brought the following hurried notes to my desk. The Sergeants Mess A and B six-a-side soccer teams came only joint third in the Charity Shield. Well Silvo's getting expensive anyway. Work appeared to be the order of things last month with very little to say, not forgetting the Junk Trips, Dim Sum and Annual Holidays. ASD were busy awaiting the arrival of the LSL ' Sir Gala- had,' increased production of Du Pont (HK) Ltd and the Stone- cutters Holiday (Visits) Season resuming. Brian Tomlin has taken over the MT Section with the idea of getting some transport for orienteering—and the new Resident Battalion, The Royal Regiment of Wales who have collected their last vehicle before departing to the Sunny Chinese Border. Divot became the new dirty word on the sports field as Major Monty Woods issued ' mats coir golf driving' (a new commodity which could be teedious?). Farewells this month go to Pete Fellowes, Joe Addis, Legs Dymond and Tommy Looney. Welcomes to Fred Furniss, Joe McCarthy, Pete De St Croix and Nigel Coole. Congratulations to Dave Hutchinson, Pete Coull and Frank Lawrence on promotion to Sub WOl, Willie Morton on pro- motion to Sub Sergeant, Steve Davis on passing his driving test (other drivers beware).
