SERGEANT LEEK of the Employment Training School
instructs soldiers in fire fighting duties at Deepcut
As ever the Services move in to fill the breach in
times of National emergency and these past few weeks
have been no exception. In cold, difficult and often
dangerous conditions all over the country the teams
have met the situation as well as their limited training
and out-dated equipment will allow. By the beginning
of December almost two and a half thousand men had
been given instruction at Blackdown Barracks in such
unfamiliar subjects as ladder work, hose running and
on the now famous—or should it be infamous, Green
Goddesses.
Training has gone on as long as daylight has
allowed—in conditions which have often damped every-
thing but the soldiers traditional sense of humour, as
the Employment Training School reports on page 236.
