people in uje J5tto£ WITH ARMY MANAGEMENT SERVICES WOl JOHN GREENHOUSE joined the Corps in February 1959 as a National Serviceman, converting to a Regular Soldier four months later. He did his initial training at Hilsea Barracks, Portsmouth—his own home town. After six weeks basic train- ing he moved to Blackdown for trade training as a vehicle store- man. On qualifying in his trade he was posted to the Central Vehicle Depot at Marchingtoti. This tour at Marchington was broken by a long detachment'to Thetford in 1961; during this tour he met his wife-to-be. In 1962 he also attended the long A Vehicle Course, Mrs Dorothy Young, wife of Lieutenant Colonel W . M. Young, presenting the Vehicle Sub-Depot Moenchengladbach seven-a- side football trophy to Lance Corporal Catchpole of Vehicle Park, winners of the Inter Departmental seven-a-side soccer tourna- ment. In mid-1963 he was selected as a founder member of 10 Vehicle Company designed to support armoured training in North Africa. The Unit went to El Adem in July 1963 and Corporal Greenhouse served with it until April 1964 when he returned to Ludgershall. A year later he returned to Blackdown as an instructor in the new trade of Vehicle Specialist, achieving the rank of Sergeant in May 1965 and that of Staff Sergeant in August 1966. On completion of this tour in 1968 he was posted to the Ordnance Depot Cyprus. He was promoted W02 in August 1969. After a three-year tour in Cyprus he went to the Ordnance Depot Antwerp where he stayed for a year before being selected for work study training. After his course at Shriven ham he took up a work study appointment at the Central Vehicle Depot Ash- church, gaining the acting rank of WOl in June 1973. Finally, he joined Army Management Services in February 1975 and was pro- moted substantive WOl in November 1976.
