a little stretched/ Surprisingly enough though our sports teams
have still found time to excel themselves.
The McMunn Barracks rugby team have had a very good
start to the season the highlight being a sixty to ten victory over
Essex University ' B ' team. We look forward to a return match
against their *A* team. We have reached the third round of
the Army Cup and will shortly be playing IJ LB Shornecliff.
Five members of the OFP have played for the Corps team this
season. Second Lieutenants R. S. Abson and A. lnions, who is
also playing in the final selection for the Army team, Privates
Anderson and Cheshire who are both playing for the Army
Junior team and Private Adkins. Incidentally we are playing the
Essex Fire Brigade at the end of November—I wonder if they
will have any availability problems. The McMunn hockey
team have had five games without defeat. Our members of the
team are Staff Sergeant Boshier, Lance Corporal Eustace and
Private Collet. Staff Sergeant Boshier and Lance Corporal
Eustace also play for the Garrison Hockey Club who now have
seven games without defeat and a score margin of twenty eight
for, four against. The cross country team are still doing
extremely well and followed their victory in the first heat of
the Eastern District Unit Cross Country with a third place in
the second heat. Individual places in the second heat were
Corporal David O'Neill sixth, Private Brett Couling ninth,
Private Mark Stainthorpe twenty fourth, Staff Sergeant Doug
Boshier twenty eighth, Private Brian Goldsworthy thirtieth, and
Private Chris Keelty thirty sixth. The team will be greatly
strengthened by the arrival of Sergeant Graham Stanton who is
a Corps runner.
Last but certainly not least, the boxers. Lance Corporal
Giles, who must be thanked for all his hard work and sweat,
has made his farewell appearance as manager/trainer and handed
over to Corporal Simpkin who will be assisted by Lance
Corporal Sloan. We have just fought in the Eastern District
Championships where our fairly inexperienced boxers proved
themselves most admirably. Private Bennett (Lightweight) and
Private Cheshire (Middleweight) both reached their respective
semi-finals, an excellent feat as both were boxing for the first
time. Private Maguire was unfortunately injured in training just
before the competition.
Private Robertson (Light Welter-
weight) was up on points in his final when he stopped an
immense punch with his head. He failed to beat the count.
(Apparently Fm not allowed say knocked out). Private Hutchin-
son (Welterweight) reached his final but was not allowed to box
because of a broken foot sustained in a previous bout. (I don't
know how you break a foot boxing either). We all wish the
team, good luck in the RAOC Individuals Championships in
February 1978.
Congratulations to Lance Corporal Douglas on promotion
to A/Corporal and Private Sloan to Lance Corporal, Good-
bye to Corporal Bolton on attachment to Oman (it can't all
be bad can it) and to Lance Corporal Shoulders. Corporal
Huggins and Lance Corporal Giles are both stepping out into
the big outside world. We welcome Staff Sergeant McCarrick,
Sergeant Stanton and Corporal Thynne on return from Northern
Ireland.
begun resettlement courses, in Aldcrshot and London respectively,

the unit visits circuit
BARRACK SERVICES ALDERSHOT
ON 29th September Colonel Richard Cooke presented the
Imperial Service Medal to Mr A, G. George. The ceremony
was held in the Barrack Accountants Office at Bicester and
was attended by the OIC (Major Rodgers) and Captain Budge
(Assistant OIC) and Mr John Griffin (CABO), the barrack
accountants and industrial staff of the Bicester detachment.
Mr George enlisted in the Royal Artillery on 1st September
1939 and left the Army in January 1946. His service with
Government Departments began in October 1946 from when he
gave continuous service until his retirement in July 1977.
On 7th November we welcomed Captain John Harradence
from Munster. He is to replace Captain Dick Budge who
leaves us for Ashchurch,
Central Ordnance Depot Bicester
HEADQUARTERS,
November has
proved to be a particularly busy period
within the Depot with most successful
visits from the Quarter-Master-General
and the Director of Army Quartering,
to say nothing of flying visits by the
GOC South East District and other
senior officers in connection with our
fire fighting responsibilities.
A unique ceremony took place on
6th November when a distinguished
gathering was invited to witness the
formal opening of Buckley House as
the official residence of the Commandant COD Bicester/Com-
mander Bicester Garrison. The unveiling of the house plaque
was carried out by Major General Stanyer and afterwards
guests were able to inspect the fascinating documents concerning
the Corps first VC, John Buckley, gathered together by Briga-
dier Page.
South East District

THE first day of November saw Staff
Sergeant John York of Supply Depot
Aldershot reach an auspicious point of
seventeen years National and Regular
Service in UK, BAOR, Middle and Far
East with the presentation of his Long
Service and Good Conduct Medal by the
General Officer Commanding.
Lieutenant Colonel Keith Holtby
and Captain Bob Lawson have both disappeared into the icy
wastes of Salisbury Plain on UKMF Exercise Avon Express;
THE GAZETTE notes file again successfully sideloadedl The
remainder of Ordnance Branch staff continue with the many
District commitments as a result of the firemen's strike; routine
being maintained despite continuous rounds of training, watch-
keeping and shift requirements. We welcome as temporary
assistants to the Branch Corporal Taff Reese from 6 Field
Force Ordnance Company and Private Bill Curray from Depot
and Training Battalion—a welcome addition to our military
strength. BE Tests have commenced> taxing some slightly rusty
physiques; though the Chief Clerk still shares the Ordnance
Company's fascination with lengths of telegraph pole on morn-
ing Physical Training!
