Jgetog from &broab Headquarters BAOR IN early November most of the Headquarters Staff were in- volved in a CPX—' Plain Sailing/ They have now emerged from their hiding places and have eyed down with hopes of clearing their 'in* trays before the Christmas break. The photograph shows Colonel Dick Kelsey presenting the BAOR Meritorious Service Certificate to Miss Daphne Adams of Combat Supplies Branch. Miss Adams has worked for a number of years in Ord 8 and will be known to previous staffs of that section. Our congratulations to WOl M. Noblett, of G Intelligence and Survey, who leaves us this month to be commissioned and posted to Logistic Executive. Unfortunately we also lose his son Steve, who gives clerical support in Ord 4, and who returns to UK. at the same time, Arrivals: Captain C G. M. Graham, SQMS A. F. Dudley, Staff Sergeant A. P. Coates and Private Blease (WRAC). Departures: Major T. A. B. Mitford, Captain P. M. Brice and Corporal M. B. Potts. ..£-tf ' L "" r ) ^ S « | -miM^ viWiM -«s m Miss Daphne Adams receiving her Meritorious Service Certificate from Colonel Dick Kelsey, Planning and Workstudy Unit BAOR THE Unit appears to have gone onto a war footing this month, with active participation in Exercise Plain Sailing on the part of Major Ollive, Captain John Print, Conductors Steve Mayes, John Alford and SSM Dave Ashworth. This was followed by the annual Range Classification and that monthly culmination of the bi-weekly Unit runs, the BE Test. In the midst of this soldier like activity, Conductor John Alford, SSMs Sandy Bennett, Brian Shepherd and Dave Ash- worth managed a few days in Dortmund. SSMs Dennis Bals- don and Dave Stott crammed in Hohne and Sennelager, SSM Mat Hudson, complete with directions to the autobahn from Viersen (two kilometres away), visited Recklinghausen. Jim Hillary and SSM Sandy Bennett successfully passed CWD courses in UK. Jim Hillary (again) with SSM Rod Harban completed a Study at Bracht, SQMS Geoff Seaby tried to get his new car repainted (must be salt damage) and finally welcome to our new conservancy expert Mrs Joy Day (no sugar for me please). Apart from that, a quiet month. shortly to brush up on the duties of a Branch Security Officer, Corporal Mick Stripe is at the Army School of Ammunition on the AT two to one Upgrading Course and Corporal Mac MacDonald is on an EPC course. Corporal Bob Trude has been awarded the covetted GOM (Gronker of the Month) award for a accumulation of 'incidents' which included calling out the Duty ATO to a burned out Grenade 83. In his own words—" it was better dealt with by a real AT/' A close second, Lieutenant Roger Patrick, is posted to the Inspectorate in February. He, it was, who for- warded his AFs A 10 unsigned by his present Commanding Officer. Twenty four hours later we received another set covered by a note apologising because the first set had been despatched unsigned. On checking the second set we dis- covered—wait for it—that they were also unsigned. Oh well! I We have at last got an active sportsman in our midst who is waving the unit flag on the hockey field. Congratulations to Staff Sergeant George Ferguson who plays for RAOC BAOR and also 4th Division. Recently he helped the latter to victory in the Inter Division competition held at Fallingbostel. Corporal David Cotterill has returned from his driving course with a pink slip. As a result of his first trip out behind the wheel of a unit Escort we are recommending WOl Alex Marshall his passenger, for a bravery award. Anyone who knows Alex wouldn't recognise him now. All the potential Duty ATOs are now watching the duty roster with trepidation wondering who is going to get Corporal David Cotterill on his first experience as, duty driver. Perhaps we'll save him for Captain David Caldwell when he returns from his Ordnance Officers course. On the social front the RMP Detachment challenged us to a games evening to inaugurate the opening of their rebuilt club room. Though we were beaten by ten games to six the enter- tainment was enjoyed by all and the margin of defeat would have been much greater had we not had the assistance of Mrs Carol Dandy and Sergeant Bob Clay from Walsrode. Congratulations to WOl Roger Crisp on obtaining sub- stantive rank. Arrivals and farewells are nil but watch our next edition as the exodus really starts and will continue for a period of four months. WALSRODE. The detachment is still under the temporary leadership of WOl John Woodward. Sergeant Bob Clay has been on his EPC(A) Course and in his spare time he organised a very successful Guy Fawkes night for the Garrison. Helped by others of the Detachment, good weather and the band of the 4/7 Dragoon Guards, everything went off well. Welcome to Mrs Lilian Newlands and family. 15 Composite Ordnance Depot STORES SUB-DEPOT VIERSEN AS November reaches out to embrace the chills of December so the citizens of Viersen stretch for the novocaine of the festive rounds. To say that the past month has been strenuous is to understate the effort at all levels built up and sustained by our hardy band. The run down of our Stores Group has been full steam ahead over the reporting period and the vast caverns of Building 21 are rapidly emptying. No mean effort, considering the sheer volume held there just a few short weeks ago. The sporting fraternity has been enjoying many hours of combat. Hockey has started off on a low note. We have played six league games so far with only one defeat and this was against our arch rivals SSD Dulmen. We were unfortunate in having four of our regular players absent (at least this was the excuse we gave at the time), but hope to reverse this result when we meet in the Quarter finals of the Rhine Area Inter Unit Army Cup. We have started playing friendly matches at weekends and so far we've had a five to three defeat by Viersen 'Stadt* (a local civilian team) and a three to one win against a team from SHAPE (are there any other Rhine Area teams interested?). On 24th October we entertained the Vehicle Sub-Depot to an inter-unit cross country race. A field of one hundred and BAOR Ammunition Inspectorate HERFORD. Courses still seem to be taking their toll of unit personnel. WOl John Rolison is at the Army School of Am- munition on his Pre-Operations course prior to a tour with 321 early in the New Year, WOl Pete Dandy leaves for Rheindahlen 253 — |
