Corporal Shaw spent the first part of a week proving to each ther how good they were. As can only be expected, Corporal haw drove the point home by making it to the semi-finals of ie Divisional Knockout Competition. Hockey for the old jnd bold is definitely a success though we haven't found a magnet big enough to slow down the geriatrics, Corporal Shepherd is in the doghouse for nearly con- vincing Staff Sergeant Richards that. he was required as part of a Medical Team at the Dutch/German border to assist in clearing our departing gunner regiment. The light only dawned when Corporal Shepherd revealed that clearance was apparently required for Dutch Elm disease! Some of the chiefs are hobbling about with the odd in- jury, CSM Gumbs with a broken ankle, Staff Sergeant Lee with an alligator bite and Private Rogers compounding his vompound fracture, by wrestling with a passing bar stool. Unfortunately, Lance Corporal Masham has not been visited yet in BMH Munster since the doctors have not identified the problem—but it is contagious. On the bright side Sergeant and Mrs Griffiths are now proud parents of a baby girl—let's hope they will soon be back on the badminton courts. Postings in: Staff Sergeant Povey, Corporal Turner, Lance Corporal Noirmott, Privates Halliwell, Holmwood, Hooper, Ovens, Beverley and Mallet. Postings out: Second Lieutenant Shore and Private Weight- man. Congratulations to Lance Corporal Notrmott on promotion 10 A/Corporal. 20 ORDNANCE FIELD PARK WITH the horror that always comes with annual inspections compounded with the preparations for restructuring about to leap on the unsuspecting prey of 20 Ordnance Field Park, it is hoped that these notes may bring some sanity back into the situation. We have no fear of powercuts, or firemen striking here in BAOR but the defeat of the unit by 3 Division Field Ambulance In the BAOR minor unit football was just as catastrophic. We are reviving ourselves through the medium of farewell drinks tor some of the longer serving members of the unit, Corporal Ken Hudspeth aided and abetted by Lieutenant Chris Lloyd, Sergeant Keith Straughier and Private ' Griff' Griffin, took their sorrows to Rinteln, undertaking a sponsored fishing event. Corporal Hudspeth was the actual fisher while the rest acted as judges. He pulled in some two hundred and thirty pounds of fish (Bream, whatever they are!) and is hoping to have raised over DM 2,000 for various charities. CSM Tommy Flowers, our right back amongst other things, took out his frustrations caused by the defeat on Sennelager ranges during his Master Coaches course. One man is smiling however, Captain Brian Gunson, who as well as being our new Second-in-Command has also taken over the rugby team and is hoping that there may be some disillusioned footballers among his recruits. Sergeant Leitch can still be heard saying there's always the OFP cup! We have said farewell to Captain Andy Simpson (lookout Belfast!), Lieutenant Steve Brown (Felix mini minor), Sergeant Tony Overton (Hello sailors), and Lance Corporal Geordie Eltringham (I might get a Corps trial now), and have wel- comed Captain Brian Gunson, Sergeant Ian Breach, Lance Corporals Moorhouse and Chadwick, As 4 Armoured Division Ordnance Company we expect to see a lot of new faces in the next few weeks. Combat Supplies Battalion OUR Rent-a-Platoon, the Petroleum Operators, from 49 Com- pany are back with us again after completing Exercise Autumn Sales. Apart from all the normal problems, the highlight of the trip was Dave Grewar finding out how to swim in a pool of dieso! The Headquarters personnel are looking a bit stiff at the joints after some intensive work outs in the gym, including that well known senior squash player. Congratulations are in order for the unit cross-country team who achieved second place in the RAOC BAOR championship, and to Major John Hawkins who won the NSRA Regular Army Individual Small Bore gold medal for 1977. Currently, however, the puzzling question that seems to be bothering many officers is a * Gray Room.' Correct answers on a postcard could win a prize. We say farewell to Staff Sergeant Bell, Sergeants Robinson and Hannell, Corporal Little, Lance Corporals Nelson, Milli- champ, Strang and Jones, Privates Capewell, Collins, Halstead and Holder, and welcome Sergeant Crow and Privates Newell, Norris, Shephard and Williams. Corps Troops East HEADQUARTERS NOVEMBER was marked by the arrival from and departure to various management courses by Materiel branch personnel. The staff of the Headquarters was kindly entertained to a Games Evening by 79 Supply Depot which resulted in a very satisfactory draw! 19 SUPPLY DEPOT THE highlight of the month was the award of the Long Service and Good Conduct Medal to Staff Sergeant Cleary the Master Baker. The medal was presented by the Commander, Soltau Garrison, Brigadier Arthur, on his farewell visit to the Depot, in the presence of Mrs Cleary and the CRAOC, Lieutenant Colonel Dodworth. Staff Sergeant Cleary receiving his Long Service and Good Con- duct Medal from Commander, Soltau Garrison Brigadier J. N. S. Arthur in the presence of CRAOC Corps Troops East, Lieutenant Colonel C. P. Dodworth. Our Butchers and Bakers in a frenzy of restructuring have returned from Dulmen as fully fledged Storemen. The CQMS, Staff Sergeant Tony Mclntyre, remains RD and insists that he is Work Study bound. The Depot Superintendent, W02 Jim Grant, is moving office to the Headquarters block to verify that the CQMS actually does work* Corporal Pete Hallam recently gained his RPC 1, and those of the Depot who were unlucky enough to be present, puffed their way to success in the six monthly Battle Efficiency Test. Corporal Tom Beaton successfully completed his EPC, and is now qualified for further promotion. He has the certificate to prove it! 80 SUPPLY DEPOT VISITORS and Inspections have been the order of the day recently. Brigadier MacDonald, DDOS 1 (BR) Corps, has been welcomed twice during the period, once in respect of a routine visit and the second time to accompany the officers and warrant officers of Headquarters RAOC Corps Troops East on a tour of our local Volkswagen Factory, which is located across the road from the Depot. Lance Corporal Dave Montgomery is currently playing number one in the Hannover Station Squash Team and is un- beaten to date. Corporal Mick Bishop has been getting out and about, taking part in the opening 1 Division Orienteering meet- ing at Hohne and also finding time to play in the Detmold Garrison Chess Competition, He managed to finish well up the order of merit in both events. Some of the Depot personnel have almost forgotten what our Depot Superintendent, SQMS Ernie Hext, looks like but we have it on good authority that he was last seen heading in the general direction of Bruggen, with a bag of golf clubs over his shoulder, to play in the Autumn Meeting. Restructuring has finally caught up with Corporal Lenny Lough ran, one of our new breed of RAOC Storemen with the specialist qualification of butcher, and he is away on a four weeks course at Dulmen* Finally we welcome Lance Corporal Pete Stewart and family who have joined us from Hong Kong. 259 — |
