(Miters Club Annual
inner
THE 1977 Officers Club Dinner was held at Headquarters Mess.
Some two hundred members attended, a rather disappointing
number—possibly accounted for by the change of date to late
in the year. Next years dinner will be back to the traditional
October. Friday the 13th as it happens.
There were no guests this year so the occasion was very
much a * family ' affair. In an amusing yet underlyingly serious
speech, the Representative Colonel Commandant, Major General
Cornock, covered all aspects of the Corps year from sports to
strikes, from things material to things materiel. A memorable
speech, not only in its content, but also for the impressive
ability by which the General is able to produce any number
of facts and figures without recourse to notes. As there was no
tape recorder present a detailed transcript is not however, avail-
able.
The Annual Dinner, in the pleasant surroundings of Head-
quarters Mess, is not only a most enjoyable event it represents
very good value in these cost conscious times; it should be
noted that a similar dinner at the old venue—The Savoys-
would now cost over twenty pounds. A sobering thought in
more ways than one,
Brigadier Spencer, Brigadier Ranson, Major Cooke, Major General
Speller and Brigadier Crawley.
