STORES SECTION 1 FIELD WORKSHOP H' 1 PEOPLE, from your No. I Stores Section in the Corps. > .: our excursions into Northern Germany in September on £*.• : cise we found ourselves in October taking the air in the kuoi on Exercise Autumn Sales. As a Workshop we were located literally on the Nurenburg Ring, which pleased our Tithes no end. There is no wonder that the BLP was stacked with " Casualties' awaiting spares, most of the Workshop were * In the Pits" working on the latest sports jobs. Once again Corporal Nichols was on 'Escape and Evasion" before the Exercise running a * Slalom. * Course on the Unit Hyster. The current question in the Section being ' What's yellow and bumps into the blue Fords in the night?' Relations between the Stores Corporal and the Mechanised Transport C rporai are at this moment in time, somewhat strained. Sergeant Mick Render and Corporal Taff Blyth the old stalwarts of the^ Section received their ' Dear Johns' from Records on their respective redundancy and are at present getting over it in some secluded corner of the Storehouse taking it with the right spirit of course. (All together, Aaah!) On the brighter side, whichever way you look at it that is, Corporal Graham Wright who did not apply for redundancy has got it, needless to say he is keeping well out of Mick and TafFs way. Our congratulations to Private Paul Pratt on his recent engagement to a local German lass, and to Private Mick Olerenshaw and his wife Olive on the birth of a son in October. We hope eventually to see Mick in the Unit once l again, he has almost broken Jeff Lords record of Days off in Lieu/ We are still waiting to hear Mick Leigh speak, it must be the shock, of leaving Bicester and coming here or the strong tea brewed by ' Private Kendo Butcher' in the Storehouse. Kendo incidentally has just acquired part ownership in a Chinese Takeaway on Route 66, At the time of writing three of J our Storemen, Lance Corporal Mick Wilson, Privates ' Gary Jackson and * Little ;oe' Connell are en-route to Bicester to attend a B2-B1 up- grading course. The best of luck lads. Keith Lee our trained civilian clerk is at present on the ' cure T after contacting an ulcer. We don't know where he got it from either we know it wasn't overwork. On his return from the * cure * he is going home to ' Jamaica' for a holiday. ICP take note we are indenting for twenty one ulcers for the use of. By the time you good people read this we will all be in the Province doing our bit with the Workshop, So in our next notes you can expect a lot more 'Blarney.* Corps Troops East SO SUPPLY DEPOT THE Depot has been kept busy particularly on the POL side, supporting autumn exercises. Staff Sergeant Ivan Jones and his small, intrepid band of helpers had to pull out all the stops to ensure that we were not engulfed with empty jerricans. Despite his reluctance to convert, Corporal Lennie Loughran is to be congratulated on achieving first place on the Storeman's Restructuring Course, held at Dulmen. Sergeant Tom Rood managed to fit in a Master Coach's Course at the All Arms Training Wing, Sennelager and we hope to make use of his new found skills in the near future. Congratulations are also in order for Corporal Mick Bishop on being selected to play chess for BAOR against the American Forces. Congratulations are due to Lance Corporal Dave Mont- gomery who recently won the RAOC BAOR Squash Cham- pionships. Our annual inspection programme for the year culminated with the visit of the CSIT who came, saw and reduced. At least the Depot Superintendent W02 Ernie Hext will no longer have a problem controlling his labour force—he just has not got one any more! Stores Section 36 Heavy Air Defence Workshop THIS is the very last article in respect of RAOC Stores Section 36 Heavy Air Defence Regiment, in fact, by the time this goes to press we will no longer exist. The section consists of five people at this moment, W02 John McGill, Staff Sergeant Tony Rolfe, Sergeant Dave Dupree, Corporal Fred Haddock and Lance Corporal Pete Browse. We lost our OQ Captain Ells, when we discovered we did not have enough brushes and shovels for everyone. Since then there has been a steady reduction in staff. Lance Corporal Van Kassel has departed to UK where he should find it easier to save money, maybe enough to buy binoculars!! We have helped SSD Dulmen out by giving them Staff Sergeant Smith, Corporal Morgan and Lance Corporals Lonnen, Ross and Hughes have helped expand 3 BAPDs estab- lishment. We must congratulate Tony Rolfe on being presented with the Jubilee Medal, Congratulations also to John McGill on his selection for promotion to WO I and Paul Sutterby on ob- taining excellent results on his EPC(A) and FAMTO courses. Sergeant Sutterby is now searching for a beach to recuperate in sunny Cyprus. He should find company in Private Gordon O'Hara who is also posted to Cyprus and who, in fact, replaces another ' old boy,' Private Chris Dick. Unit activities have been few but we did manage one particular achievement. Most of the section lads participated in a sponsored Workshop run for charity and after some un- usually energetic running helped to raise in excess of DM5000. As the Stores Section fades into history we wish all past members good luck for the future. Other departures: W02 Cook, Sergeant Honeysett, Corporals Salt, Cooney, Harvey, Smalley, Pountain, Lance Corporals Mac- Donald, De St Croix Bryan, Falconer, Privates Ditchfield, Sparkes, Morrall, Brewer and Foord. British Forces Hong Kong ^r^f^zM* /*JL fS^M~f I JrfT7?7^^S^^ 297 — fg&£*0k short tour was presented with lift—also managed a short trip to Nepal. We hope he enjoyed his visit, and now returned home, is well rested! I Major Ted Gibson after a long Hong Kong Tour slipped home ostensibly for the DGOS Study Period, but we reckon it was , a recce—and await his Posting Order with interest!! An air of expectancy hangs over AQ Branch, as the Chief Clerks AQ, MS and Quartering all await their Posting Orders. By the time these notes are published all will have been revealed and MFO on its way to Honduras, Washington and Nigeria respectively—alternatively it could all be on the same four Tonner heading for Belfast—(the CC A/Q was heard to say with a sigh, that, after consecutive tours in Singapore, Nepal, Korea and Hong Kong he could do with a rest!)—Some get it tough! The Headquarters Staff Clerks are well represented in the Head- quarters BF football team, regular places being taken by W02 Sandy Sandison (Team Manager), W02 John Esson, Sergeants Jim Burnett and Brian Tock, and Corporal A. L. Nimmo. The record reads played three, won two, drawn one, which is at times difficult to believe when one overhears the post mortem ' dis- cussions * raging in the offices and corridors. The cooler weather has also given the Squash Players new impetus. Lieutenant Colonel Richardson and Mr Dillon find themselves closely matched and engage in weekly Olympian struggles. Staff Sergeant Pat Craig will be happy to win at least one game before the season is over, he is searching for an opponent who has less talent than himself in an effort to boost his sagging ego—it's the game that counts Staff!! ACCOMMODATION SERVICES UNIT HONG KONG WE would like to introduce ourselves to readers under our new title as the Accommodation Services Unit, Hong Kong. The change of designation from the former Barrack Services has been completed without difficulty and we are already becoming accustomed to speaking of ASAs instead of by their well known previous title of BIAs. Colonel Lloyd Jones, whilst carrying out our technical in- spection, made a nostalgic detour to his former quarter in Kow~ loon Tsai to try and trace his old armah. Language difficulties found him on the brink of hiring a new armah to take back with him to the UK. Fortunately, for him, this excess issue was not approved by OC ASU. COMPOSITE ORDNANCE DEPOT MAY we take this opportunity to wish a Happy New Year from the officers and men of COD Hong Kong to all RAOC Units at home and abroad. We also welcome Lieutenant Colonel J. R. Hambly our new Commanding Officer, on posting of Lieutenant Colonel P. Weatherburn who was given the traditional send-off astride Robert, the inter-city express train "Choi Hung to Chilwell" non-stop. VMIWI $£SsX WE were visited by the In- |
