Transcription The Sergeanls Mess and Corporals Club Christmas Draws
went off very successfully and a good time was had by all. It
is the season of bad-heads.
We welcome WOI Thomas, Sergeant Murray, Corporals
Matthews and Laidlaw, and bid farewell to Captain Collins,
WOI Field-Millard, Sergeant Cheshire, Corporals Smith and
Hoareau.
Life in SPSD is now back to the state we, euphemistically,
refer to as normal after the Unit Technical Inspection. The
inspection was carried out by Colonel Lloyd-Jones. The follow-
ing day W02 Joe Campbell teed off for a friendly game of golf
with the Colonel only to be struck full in the face by a golf ball.
He now looks almost handsome.
The saga of the Unit boat^she is still in the Unit, defying
all efforts to launch her. This situation could change if WOI
Fred Woolhouse carries out his threat to sit the Local Masters
Exam.
The OC, Captain Roger Bensaid, has stopped beating us
with sticks having switched from Akaido to Judo, The only
apparent difference is that the bruises are no longer caused by
batons.
Sergeant Ray Pembroke finally beat the clock to give SPSD
a one hundred per cent pass rate in BFTs; so, Blackdown
Barracks lot—please take note!
Staff Sergeant Phil Williams has settled in and is fully
occupied with his favourite pastime—rearranging the Depot.
Congratulations to Irene Asquiih and Lance Corporal John
Fleck on winning the Unit Family Bowling.

Didcot
THE Branch has completed a successful and well supported
year, The events in the social calendar included four indoor
games evenings for the RAOC Association Cup which was won
by DLSA B team. We express our thanks to the PMC and
members for allowing the Branch the use of the Sergeants Mess
for these functions.
A full coach load of members and ladies travelled to Wem-
bley in July for the Services Silver Jubilee Pageant. The pro-
gramme of outstanding martial music was most enjoyable.
In November we entertained members and ladies of the
Corsham Branch. We were very pleased to see them and
hope that this may lead to a regular interchange of visits,
The Branch Standard was presented and an Association
wreath laid at the Didcot Station Remembrance Day Service
held at All Saints Church.
The Annual Branch dinner was once again held by courtesy
of the PMC and members in the splendid setting of the
Officers Mess. One hundred dined and the evening was voted
the best yet As is now customary we had as our guests from
the Royal Hospital In Pensioners Joe Thelwell, Bill Nichols
and Ted Slowly. The dinner also gave the Branch the opportunity
to bid farewell to Major General Paddy Minogue and Mrs
Minogue who have both given the Branch splendid support
during their stay at Didcot. We shall miss them and wish them
all happiness in retirement.
The Branch faces 1978 with confidence but with the im-
minent departure from Didcot of Headquarters Base Organisa-
tion (albeit as Director Base Depots) and also of Directorate
Supply Computer Services means that, after April, the Didcot
Branch will be directly sponsored and supported by Directorate
Land Service Ammunition which is to remain in Vauxhall
Barracks for the foreseeable future.
Colonel David Church was Branch President for the most
of 1977 and he handed over to Colonel Dennis Stone who will
carry on through 1978. Lieutenant Colonel Nigel Robinson
was Branch Chairman for 1977 and is due a vote of thanks for
his enthusiasm and organisation during the year.
Frank Brind, our Welfare Officer has not enjoyed good
health and is making slow progess following cardiac trouble.
We all wish him a speedy recovery to full health and his
customary ebullient self as soon as possible.
The Committee members for 1977 from the old and bold
included Ken Nash, Ron Dyer, Alex Lamb and Larry Dowdall—
ably assisted by Captain " Fuzz" McDermott who we will
miss when he moves to BAOR shortly.
In conclusion we wish all Corpsmen everywhere a Happy
and Prosperous 1978.

Value this good
makes me proud
to be British
SAYS RONNIE BARKER-
"There's no doubt about it, British cars really are exceptionally good
value for money at the moment. That's true whether you are buying
Tax Free or Tax Paid. The fall in the Pound in recent years has made
them an absolute bargain compared with most foreign models of
similar size and performance. It won't last for ever so send for the
latest Natocars Information Pack today, it's a deal not to be missed.
"Our unique personal mail order service has been perfected over
• ten years and it works so well that we don't even employ salesmen!
Instead at spending our time trying to sell you a car, we devote our
energies to organising the car you want to buy.
"All the problems of paperwork, insurance, part-exchange, credit
and delivery are efficiently handled by one person who supervises
your purchase from start to finish; and the car is prepared so that
you really do feel you've had good value for money,
"So make no mistake about it. There are other NATO Sales
organisations but there is only one Natocars - First in the field and
still No.1 with H.M. Forces.
"British cars, at a bargain price, from a
British firm that offers the finest
customer care service on the
market; it really does make
