» We have seen the return of ihe first 'Jean Claud Kilty's* rum Nethybridge where they profess to having had an enjoy- LBIC it" demanding ski-ing course. This month the 16 Battalion Sergeants Mess entertained the old folks of Bicester Lo a party. About fifty four senior citizens were treated to an afternoon's hospitality in the Mess, The Mess also extended hospitality to the USAF Sergeants Mess at Upper Heyford and reports suggest that one or two members found that alcohol made them feei giddy. We say goodbye to Captain Geordie Woodward ACC who leaves us for sun and sand and also to Captain Barbara Allen WRAC, who leaves us for Bovington, I SUB-DEPOT WE are pleased to record the award of the Imperial Service Medal to Mr George Albert White for his service to the Crown. Mr White saw Military service with the Royal Artil- lery and Worcestershire and Forester Regiment before joining as a labourer at Didcot in 1947. He retired recently after thirty si\ years Government service- Other retirements include Mr Eric Robinson after thirty five years service and Mrs Ruth Dickson 'after fifteen years service. From the Military staff we greet Staff Sergeant Lane, Corporals Moore and Smalley and Privates Clarke, Cannon and Foster, much needed replacements for those departing who include Corporal Haigh and Privates Bayliff, Ledingham and Walton. 3 SUB-DEPOT MR BILL ARCHER, OIC 3 Sub-Depot, retired on 30th Decem- ber. At a farewell party, the Commandant presented him with a crystal mug from members of the Officers Mess and a Sun Lounger from his colleagues in 3 Sub-Depot. Bill Archer joined the Royal Arsenal, Woolwich as a labourer in September 1939. Through many postings and pro- motions he eventually attained the grade of Stores Officer Grade A, the highest possible promotion in his field, and assumed com- mand of 3 Sub-Depot. Our very best wishes go to Bill in his retirement which will not be idle, judging by his plans to visit his son in Peru, who is a missionary doctor for the South American Missionary Society. TECHNICAL TRAINING WING WE have said farewell to WOl Eric Fenton, on his posting to Chilwell, a victim of the insatiable Inspector of Establishments. We welcome Sergeant Pike in his stead and wish them both well in their new appointments. DEPOT TRANSPORT NOW that the Firemen's strike is over, our own intrepid fire- fighters, Lance Corporals Brigdon, Blakey and Brieriy and Privates Altenhoffer, Luff, Phillips, Greenwood, Curtis and Hayward have returned to the fold. As Green Goddess drivers they had been on firefighting duty from almost the start of Operation Burberry- They earned much praise for the pro- fessional and cheerful manner in which they carried out their duties. Well done lads. During December C60 took on the appearance of the Scrutineers Bay at the RAC Rally as Hartford Motors arrived, bunting and all, to carry out winter lighting and mechanical checks on private vehicles owned by members of the Depot. The whole operation was a resounding success with some two hundred and twenty two vehicles being checked in the three days of inspections. Happiest man of the month is Lance Corporal Salter on his promotion. The saddest is Lance Corporal Walters, our fearless second row forward, after the Bicester team's narrow defeat in the Army Cup. As promised Gwen, D Company will never hear from us about the wall that jumped out and hit the car. Central Ordnance Depot Donningron THE greatest achievement we have to report in the sporting field was the success of our cross country team in the Corps Cham- pionships, Under the captaincy of Major Sid Pincher the team surprised not a few by taking the runners-up cup t The team comprised of Major Sid himself, Second Lieutenant Graham Morrison, Corporal Mitch Couzens, Lance Corporal Andy Fox, Corporal Scot Catterall, Privates Jock Simpson, Thommb Thompson, Jock McElvie RPC, and Mick Whittingham ACC* Individual achievements were Major Sid Pincher—first over forty, Second Lieutenant Graham Morrison—overall first and Lance Corporal Andy Fox—fourth. Well done chaps, and also congratulations to SSD Dulmen who won the championship, Captain Andy Jelly can now have his annual pint shandy. The fire fighting teams are now back at work; a cheque for £100 was presented by Alderman Bower, Shropshire County Watchkeeping Committee, in appreciation of the team's efforts during Operation Burberry. We arc also proud of the way they tackled yet another extraneous job. Major George Martin and Staff Sergeant Eric Hearn are still at the Home Office Stores, Branston, receiving back Green Goddesses and equip- ment. We are informed that they are sleeping on the job also something about hard lying allowance. They too have received great praise for their complete co-operation and eagerness to en- sure that good Ordnance logic was applied during the issuing and receiving process, The presentation in the Sergeants Mess. Long Service and Good Conduct Medals were presented by the Commandant to WOl Ian Powell, W 2 John Quinney, W 2 John Craig, all RAOC, WOl Tony Johnson RADC and Staff Sergeant Bill Hunter REME, all who appear on the photograph, in the same order, from left to right, with the Commandant. Lieutenant Colonel Peter Latham is now in the CAO's chair, complete with tool kit. Congratulations to Private and Mrs Gandy on the birth of their daughter Nicola. Central Vehicle Depot UK HEADQUARTERS IT'S back to work as usual for most. Technical Inspections begin again with Lieutenant Colonel Lickman * suffering' a visit to Hong K.ong, while Major Woodliffe more mundanely, in- spected the Vehicle Sub-Depot in Northern Ireland. The Officers Mess Ladies Night was held on Friday, 13th January, and was marked with distinction for its production of The Fleatrap starring Majors Woodliffe, Ford and Catt and Cap- tains Gibson and Parsons. Their acting ability brought comment from far and wide but there's no need to mention it here. Suffice it to say the Arts Council will continue to buy bricks. For entertainment value we award ten, for content another ten and star quality well VEHICLE DEPOT ASHCHURCH THE Firemen hajve returned, with, as predicted lots of * tall tales/ It seems that they all enjoyed the duty.
