e played and won very comfortably three to nil with a polished
-crformance. «We now go on to play either 6 Field Force
leadquarters and Signal Squadron or the Prince of Wales
division (Crickhowell) in the third round, again at home.
Rugby has been very much the victim of Operation Burberry
although that in itself has been something of a mixed blessing
in that our opponents in the third round of the Army Cup
had to withdraw. In the fourth round however we were drawn
away to 1 Para and their monoply oF the ball from every set-
piece mean* a thirty six to nil defeat for the Ironsides. Corporal
Butler and Lance Corporal Hartley continue to be recognised by
the Corps selectors and there is always the Hill Cup and the
Bruce Sevens to look forward to.
Our congratulations to Private and Mrs Frost on the birth
of their daughter Andrea, We welcome: W02 Burey, Corporals
Candy and Crossland, Lance Corporal Davey and Privates Astill,
Moore, Berry, Hanna and Clarke and hope their stay at the
Centre is enjoyable.
We say farewell to: Corporal Slade to civilian life, Privates
Bushell, Sellers and Smith to BAOR, Lance Corporal Handyside
to UNFICYP and Privates Cameron, Roche and Talbot to
SEME Bordon, and wish them all every success in the future,

Army School of Ammunition
LAST month we featured Training Development and Co-
ordination Branch so now we turn to the ' bread and butter
boys *—Conventional Land Ammunition Branch,
Head of
this Branch is Major Alan Swindley whose golf handicap is
lowered monthly, as is his tonsorial fringe. Since purchasing
his new car it has been a case of ' Opel cars make your mouth
water' with the rest of the staff 1 Ably assisting
kirn is Captain
1
Stan Woods, referred to as a 'golfing widow by other mem-
bers of the Branch. WOt Fred Murphy is the Branch SAT
as well as taking time out to organise Fire Control Head-
quarters at Leek Wootton and play in goal for the Unit
hockey team.
Since the recent Inspector of Establishments visit the number
of instructors have been reduced and now include newcomer
W02 Roy Randall and recently promoted W02 Graham Light-
foot, Staff Sergeants Alan Anfield, Steve Wilks and Denis
Leadbeater, Sergeants Gordon Lloyd-West and Glyn Kay.
Continuity within the Branch is provided by Mr John Green,
ex-WOl AT, now employed as a Civilian Instructor. He is
attempting to grow facial hair to change his image or under
which to hide! CLA Branch would not be complete without
mention of two very important people, namely W02 Ken
Dickson and Lance Corporal John Halliwell—both Storemen
of renown.
On Thursday mornings the local byways are full of
track-suited figures jogging (over forty years old) or running
(under forty years old) in preparation for Physical Efficiency
Tests—* the first three miles are the worst, one has little
recollection of the run back* to quote one overweight under-
forty W02,
The School hosted a week's International EOD Con-
ference during December and renewed acquaintance with old
friends including Lieutenant Colonel MacKenzie-Orr now serving
with the Australian Ordnance Corps,
We have said farewell to WOZ Bill Barber who was last
seen gleefully rubbing his hands in eager anticipation of the
Local Overseas Allowance he will receive in 3 BAPD.

102 Light AD Regiment Workshop REME (V)
DURING December our two representatives at The Queen's
Silver Jubilee Review of the Reserves, W02 John Burrows and
Lance Corporal Chuck Brittle," attended a further parade at the
TAVR Centre, Sunnyside Street Belfast, where commemorative
certificates were presented by the TAVR Association to all who
took part.
Unfortunately we have had to say farewell to our most
recent recruit Private Ray Shaw who has transferred to the 3rd
Battalion The" Ulster Defence Regiment. We wish Ray every
success in his new role and pray that he will come through
safely.
Petroleum Centre
INTO the new year, diets recommenced, hangovers faded, bank
balances drained, good will ended, new years resolutions al-
ready forgotten, it's back to the grindstone and all systems go.
The Chief Clerk decided that the diary of events for the
December period was far too hectic for his liking and departed
for two weeks leave to quieter waters and while relaxing pro-
ceeded to get wed; our congratulations to him and his wife
Jane.
Captain Applebee has once again handed back the ad-
ministration reins (and assorted appointments) to Captain Walsh,
after a three month study in the Management World at Bristol
University; sighs could be heard from both parties.
The Training and Trials Wing have all enjoyed their
block leave (totally unnecessary in some peoples eyes) and
the dusting of training aids, manuals, lesson plans and in one case
an instructor (good old Stew) is taking place prior to the com-
mencement of a new training yean
The Headquarters is its normal self, the brains, a beehive
of activity, an encyclopaedia of ideals—well these notes originate
from there.
Physical training is one of the in things at the moment
and most days sweating bodies can be seen trotting around
the Centre, under the watchful eyes of W02 Burey and Staff
Sergeant McWilliams, better known as Legs and Co. We now
have the fastest Petroleum Operators in the South, though a
rather slow clerk I
