VINE
AT
BRAMLEY
LAST month the Bramley notes reflected on the closure of the
Bramley Officers Mess and called to mind the Boxing Day
Meels of the Vine Hunt. Searching for some past reference I
came across a picture of the event—though I wouldn't swear
that it was Boxing Day. A nice bit of nostalgia nevertheless.
RAOC AWARDS FOR ACHIEVEMENT
RAOC AWARDS for Achievement were instituted in 1977 as a
means of recognising notable and meritorious achievements
accomplished by members of the Corps outside their normal
military duties. The Award takes the form of a solid silver
medallion.
The Colonels Commandant considered a number of
recommendations made for achievements during 1975 and
1976 and have decided that Awards should be made to: —
Major A. J, Muston
Everest Expedition 1976
Captain T. M. King
Everest Expedition 1976
Lieutenant A. J. Ashby-Smith (deceased) for
Scientific Exploration
Presentations of the Awards to Major Muston, Captain King
and to the parents of Lieutenant Ashby-Smith, will be made by
the Representative Colonel Commandant, Major General
Stanyer, during the RAOC Association Weekend at Bicester on
22nd April 1978.
* Award for Achievement' was instituted under Corps In-
struction No* 634 and the initial recommendations were for the
years 1975 and 1976. (Citations for Awards during 1977 will
be considered after 1st March this year.)
SOUVENIR
PHILATELIC
COVER
1978 is a significant year for the Royal Army Ordnance Corps
and the special handstamp British Forces Postal Service 1978
is to be used in conjunction with a Commemorative Cover on
the occasion of a visit by Her Majesty The Queen to the RAOC
at Bicester on 16th May 1978.
As Her Majesty assumed the appointment of Colonel-in-
Chief of the RAOC on the eve of her Coronation in 1953, it
seems appropriate to use an 8£p Silver Jubilee Stamp on the
covers. 1978 is also a Diamond Jubilee year as in 1918 the
title Royal was granted to the Corps by His Majesty King
George V,
The covers cost 50p and a limited number—signed by the
Representative Colonel Commandant—Major General J. T.
Stanyer, CBE, will be available at £1,50. All profits will go to
Service Charities. Orders should be sent to National Giro
Account Number 2039222 or to: The Philatelic Officer, Planning
Branch, Central Ordnance Depot, Bicester, Oxon, 0X6 OLD.

MANY readers who have served in Rheindahlen at some time
in the past and have attended St Boniface Church, either in

1978 at 6 pm, All past members of the congregation and the
choir are cordially invited to attend.

five past choir masters, spanning a similar period.
This should be a memorable reunion. Further details can
