RSM FOSTER LEAVES
THE APPRENTICES COLLEGE
WARRANT OFFICER Class 1 (Regimental Sergeant Major)
J. T. Foster enlisted into RAOC in 1959 and trained at Deep-
cut as a Vehicle Storeman and later decided to become a Regi-
mental Instructor.
He has served with 19 Airportable Brigade, with the .British
Army of the Rhine and in the Third Division at Devizes. He
has also served in Hong Kong, Cyprus, North Africa and
Jamaica.
In 1974 he was posted to the Apprentices College as Com-
pany Sergeant Major of A Company. For two years he devoted
himself: to this task and when a vacancy occurred for a College
RSM, he was the obvious candidate and was immediately pro-
moted to Warrant Officer Class 1. His tour as College RSM
has not only been a pinnacle in his own career but also one
in the life of the College and we are all grateful for his loyalty,
devotion and service—the College will miss him when he is
posted at the end of this term,
For his loyal and devoted service for over eighteen years,
RSM Foster has been awarded the Long Service and Good
Conduct Medal.
CORPS SQUASH reached new heights in February when
Sergeant Robbie Robinson was runner-up in the Army Squash
Championship and Sergeant Dave Bradley was winner of the
Plate Competition.

A CHEQUE FOR THE
NATIONAL KIDNEY R E S E A R C H F U N D
READERS will no doubt remember the tremendous efforts of
eight members of the Corps who last year, covered one hundred
miles a day for a week to raise money in aid of the National
Kidney Research Fund. {Reported in the November GAZETTE.)
As a result of their efforts they were able to hand over a
cheque for £625,37. The presentation was made to Mr Neal
Arden of the National Kidney Research Fund by RSM Geordie
Hendry at the Employment Training School at Deepcut.
The run was organised by Lieutenant Colonel John Janes,
Commandant of the Employment Training School, and the men
who did the * leg work' were Corporals Jack Lonergan, Peter
Knox, Geordie Tones from Training Centre assisted by Corporal
Phil Ritchie and Sergeant Roger Gill of 39 AYT, who are
based at Guildford. Lieutenant Lou Bean from the Apprentices
College also found himself involved when Sergeant Gill was
unfortunately injured during the second day. RSM Hendry, who
himself ran five miles on the last day, with Staff Sergeant
Chris Mabbott and Corporal Blackburn, was also heavily in-
volved in the organisation and our thanks go to them for their
efforts. The marathon began at the White Hart, Frimley, and
covered a large area of Surrey, Greater London and Berkshire,
using public houses owned by St George's Taverns as focal
points, as the Brewery was the main sponsor,
At the end of the week there was a party at Training
Centre which raised £160. Then began the lengthy business of
gathering in donations from the smaller sponsors and counting
up the proceeds from the collecting boxes that accompanied
the runners which, all in all, raised this fine total.
