Daunt and family from Moenchengladbach and to Corporal Terry Long and family from 6 Field Force Regiment. WOl Bill Sims has left us on retirement. He has moved to Minden where he and his family will live. We wish him good luck. It is with deep regret that we announce the death of Private John Reidy who died in hospital on 16th February following a traffic accident. We offer our condolences to his wife Sheila, 1st- British Corps HEADQUARTERS JL CORPORAL PAUL GARDINER is looking f^L pleased with himself having just passed his RPC 1 ^M ^ ^ course with a very good grading. He has been ^^fr^^p rewarded by Manning and Records with the mini- ^ H | l^m mum notice of a posting to Headquarters 8 Infantry ^m ^ r Brigade. We congratulate him on attaining RPC 1 ^^W and wish him and Carol all the best in the Emerald ^y Isle. Sergeant Alan Bucbwell and Corporal Scouse Hayes are holding the fort well in GSD 2 where, under the branch reorganisation, they have been given a lot more scope and work, Scouse is working in pain due to a faulty wisdom tooth but not for long, we hope, as a hospital bed and surgeon's knife have been booked for him. Besides Paul Gardiner's news the rest of GSD 1 are busy preparing for the next exercise. Private John Robertson has put together fifty four maps with W/Private Vannessa Dike looking on ask- ing, "What are you doing John?" At the present time they are both in bed with 'flu—I hasten to add, not together! As February ends AQ Operations are involved in a frantic burst of pre-exercise preparation in readiness for the first major exercise of the year—if only we could find the last Post Exercise Report! We are back to our full ' pre-Stephenson' establishment with the welcome return of Private Billy Evans, Lance Corporal Alan Woods is off shortly to the heady delights of SHAPE and we welcome his relief, Lance Corporal Minshull, from the Emerald Isle, The Chief Clerk, W02 Bob Toland, has received his posting order to the MOD—five years in Corps Head- quarters—is this a record? Arrivals: WOl Allan Robinson from Dulmen and Sergeant Fred Laycock from 154 FAD Wulfen. Departures: WOl Don Shone to Depot and Training Battalion, Sergeant Dave Wolfe to 6 Field Force Headquarters and Signal Squadron and Private Tony Baillie to 12 Intelligence and Security Company. A ORDNANCE BRANCH " The like before you've never seen, performed for the DOS Study. Harry, Larry, Moe and Stan, an Ex-Goon, and a Goodie." THE boards of the Rheindahlen Theatre have never been so trodden, as 'The Garlic Players' — repeats and encores a speciality—carried a wildly enthusiastic audience into realms of enraptured slumber! Messrs MacColl, Bradley, Freeman (Hardy and Willis?), Halton and Hartiey quite ably assisted by their front man, the ADOS, performed an ' act' that could only be described as a cross between Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In, and Coronation Street! This has lead to a new award in show- biz called an ' Elmer '—all qualified!! WOl Gordon Halton's performance as a Russian soldier was so realistic he is now addressed as Comrade. We have yet to receive the official ratings! The Branch is lying overall second in the Commanders Cup at the moment This covers a series of sports on an inter branch knockout basis; such was the standard during the eliminations of the squash event—all were eliminated! Guess who committed a * foxes pass' again this month? Right first time, Brother Jim, the magic Gleeson! Given a day *orf with 'flu; who was caught, later that self-same day, clear- ing the snow from the RSM's path? We have decided that if his hand heals after three days, following the application of a hot iron, we will believe his garbled excuses! D, H. H. KEEP IN TOUCH W I T H THE CORPS THROUGH THE RAOC ASSOCIATION 1st Armoured Division HEADQUARTERS RAOC THIS is it—the first newsletter from 1 Armoured Division. Others may have jumped the gun, but we have managed to restrain ourselves until the correct date Lance Corporal John Griffiths is still not totally convinced that you don't have to be thick-skinned to be in an Armoured Division—but then again neither am I. After the prolonged absence of an Adjutant we have discovered that the work load can be absorbed by the rest of the staff. Nevertheless, we would like to welcome Captain Terry Rapple, our new Adjutant, and can't understand what is keeping him so busy. The small bore shooting team, consisting of Major David Avery and Sergeants Dave Coombs, Len Wrightson and Paul Swainson, have succeeded in reaching the finals of the RAOC Winter League by winning the Divisional league. Special con- gratulations are due to Dave Coombs for his runners-up medal in the 1 Division championships, We have modified the modification of our modified com- mand post shelter and with the exercise season approaching hope we have finally got it right By the time you read this, we will know! Our picture shows WOl Del Henty and his wife, Pam, with DDOS Brigadier MacDonald after the presentation of his Long Service and Good Conduct Medal. Photo Army Public Relations. WOl (SSM) Del Henty and his wife Pam with Brigadier Macdonald after the presentation of SSM Henty's Long Service and Good Conduct Medat 1 ARMOURED DIVISION ORNANCE COMPANY WE hope that by the time you read this we will at last be an Armoured Division Ordnance Company and that the trials and tribulations of the last few months will be just a happy memory. It is nevertheless a sad time for 11 Ordnance Field Park as we say farewell to friends too numerous to mention and also to Ironside Barracks, our home for the past twelve years. As I write some of us are still commuting between Soltau and Scheuen but 'tis a far cry from tube, bowler and brolly to truck, barrack dress and snow plough. Still, I suppose we must justify the X Factor. The Sergeants rose to heights befitting the end of an era with a thoroughly excellent Dinner Night. They certainly closed the Mess with a bang saving the whimpers until the headaches caught up with them. Sportswise the scene was set for an action-packed second leg of the DDOS Football Cup following a three all draw with 6 Ordnance Field Park in the first leg. Although we had a comfortable six to two lead at half time, 6 Ordnance Field Park have a reputation for fighting back. So imagine the scene as the snow starts to fall again. " Can you see the line, Fred?" shouts the referee to the linesman. " Only just" came the reply. With the speed of computerised gazelles two stalwart spectators — Stummy Lawton and Geordie Pennock — grab brushes and like demented curling players rush round the pitch keeping the lines clear. The result—an eight to two win and two very warm spectators, — 358 — |
