Sto res Platoon 22 Air Defence Regiment Workshop Operation Banner detachments have cut our working force 4uite considerably but on the credit side we welcome Private Glen to the fold from 5 Field Force Ordnance Company. He vvill be helping us out in the office. One farewell this month. After twelve months in the platoon as a supernumerary, Private Smith leaves us destined for 1 (BR) Corps Stores Company for employment as to be honest we're not quite sure. AFTER a considerable amount of activity in January which included much overtime working, life has now returned to near normality, On the sporting side we have entered a team in the Regi- mental Indoor Tug-of-War Competition. But the in sport at the moment is ski-ing. Private * Beany' Palmer has just returned from Exercise Snow Queen: Privates Matthews and Newman have left for the same location. Sergeant Mick Stewart spends most weekends at Winterberg. We offer congratulations to Corporal and Mrs Colin Metcalfe on the birth of their daughter Michelle, Corporal and Mrs Steve Hall on the birth of their son Steven, and Private and Mrs ' Scouse' Cannell on the birth of their daughter Lesley. Welcome to Sergeant Graham Seymour who takes over control of 52 Battery Section. We congratulate him for his recent promotion. Welcome also to Privates * Geordie ' Purkins and Tan Bates. Farewell to W02 Ray Candlin and Private Mark Knight, Private Tony Valler now has the honour of being the longest serving member of this unit! 1 Combar Supplies Battalion THE snow is upon us again but for a change it seems we are to be let off lightly. Despite this, there are strong rumours that the plan to paint Pombsen may have changed from green paint to white. Never mind 43, think how much easier it will be applying the green paint over the white in the spring! Having spent the last year quietly chuckling at the effects of re-organisation on BAOR Units the Battalion itself has finally been hit with a vengeance. A whole company (49) has moved lock, stock and jerrycan to Obernkirchen. Needless to say the RQMS hastily bolted down all items including, it is rumoured three Storemen, in an attempt to keep track of his kit, Alas his efforts were in vain and on 14th February the covered wagons rolled from Paderborn to Minden across the RMP infested Teutoberger range. Smoke signals from Minden (perhaps from the burning accommodation stores) indicate that 49 Company are slowly winning and have gained a foothold in Fort Harden. More to follow next month when the cleft stick reaches us. Meanwhile back in Paderborn the Battalion have done very well in the sporting events. Major John Hawkins has just won the BAOR Target Rifle with Private Dave Taylor ninth,. Sergeant John Hooper twelfth and Corporal Graham Brown fourteenth. With luck this should place them well for the team event which is being fired as we go to print. Corporal Paul Lindsay won the RAOC BAOR Individual Table Tennis championships and the Battalion team as a whole reached the semi-finals. Special congratulations go to Privates Williams and Fields on achieving such good results at their first championships. Those not with us at the moment seem to be running the RAOC Ski Hut in Bavaria, all things being equal we hope to provide readers with some very interesting pictures of how not to ski in the next issue. We welcome Captain Jones, Captain Paton, Second Lieutenant Heron, Staff Sergeant Burkin, Sergeant Forster RAPC, Corporals Douglas and Coates, Lance Corporal Skelton, Privates Ramsay, Bayltff, Wearing and England, and say goodbye to Captain Gunson, Staff Sergeants Dolman and Blinkhorn, Corporal Nunn, Lance Corporal Wells and Private McDonagh. Our congratulations go to Corporal and Mrs Daly, Corporal and Mrs O'Niel, Lance Corporal and Mrs Stevenson, Private and Mrs Forshaw on their new additions to their families, Corps Troops West HEADQUARTERS RAOC THE General Officer Commanding 3 Armoured Division assumed responsibility for Dortmund Garrison on 1st January 1978. He lost no time in getting to know the Garrison, visiting us on the 10th. This Headquarters and RAOC Units in the Garrison were included in his initial tour of the area. Brigadier Macdonald, DDOS 1 (BR) Corps, also visited RAOC Units, to carry out the annual visit/inspection. Op- portunity was taken of the occasion to assemble all the RAOC Officers of Corps Troops West for lunch for perhaps the last time since, in the near future, the restructuring and disband- ment process will takeover and disperse us and our jobs in varying directions. It was also an opportune time to * lunch out' Captain Frank Quinn who by the time this is printed will be a civilian—hopefully, not amongst the ranks of the un- employed. The Dortmund Branch of the RAOC Association held its annual general meeting in the Rickshaw Room. The pro- gramme of activities for the year was planned, bearing in mind the future changes which may be necessary in the Branch due to restructuring. Stores Platoon 12 Armoured Workshop DEAR MUM, I have a feeling that this is going to be my lucky posting. On arrival I was informed that 1 had won first prize in a raffle for the Corps GAZETTE notes. Just what I've won I'm not sure but someone will soon present me with the prize. There is a great deal of activity here, people keep running around talking about the * split/ I thought it was something physical but 1 find it's all to do with running two accounts one for * MRG A ' and one for ' MRG B/ I've just returned from our detachment in Munster, (I didn't know we had one until today). We seem to have quite a lot of chaps so I'll introduce them over the next few letters; starting with the Munster detachment. In charge of our band at the blunt end we have Sergeant Jim Munday ably assisted by Corporal Mick Berger, Lance Corporals Taff Lovejoy and Phil Markley. Privates David Tonks, David Bowden and Killer Kilroy. They all work and live in Munster and only join us for exercises. Talking about exercises, what a month to join a unit (lucky or not). We have this month our own Technical Inspection being taken this year by Lieutenant Colonel Ellis. At the same time we also have 12 Armoured Workshop PRE and to cap it all we have to do a loading trial (nothing to do with guns) at the end of the month. We have had a few postings during the month, out going is W02 Jim (keep marching) Mieklejohn to Hong Kong. Join- ing us are Captain Roycroft from Didcot, W02 George Down from Deepcut and Corporal John Hunt from Wulfen. Well that's all for now. Your Charlie. — 361 Photo Corporal J. A. Shtvrrock. Brigadier Macdonald presents the Long Service and Good Conduct Medal to Sergeant Michael Paling. 86 SUPPLY DEPOT RAOC WE recently received a visit from the Command Staff In- spection Team; glad to report that none of our military staff were made redundant, although Staff Sergeant Slim Jones our Chief Clerk (Supplies) noticeably lost weight while they were here and Janet Brown our typist, disappeared under six feet of drafts! The Chief Clerk (Administration) Sergeant Barry Humphrey, was seen strutting down the corridors beaming after being told by the Inspection Team that he had a work output of one hundred and seventeen per cent (all lies). — |
