Transcription In January we received a visit from the Commander 3
Armoured Division, Major General Walsh, his first since 86
Supply Depot came under command of 3 Armoured Division.
Some three weeks later we had our annual Administrative In-
spection which was carried out by the DDOS 1 (BR) Corps,
Brigadier Macdonald,
During his visit the DDOS presented the Long Service and
Good Conduct Medal to Sergeant Michael Paling, our Master
Butcher.
You are certainly not going to believe this, but six days
later we had our Annual Technical Inspection! This was con-
ducted by Colonel Kelsey (Colonel ORD C Supplies) Head-
quarters BAOR, ably assisted by Major Moore. They obviously
enjoyed their visit, if the lunch in the Officers Mess was any-
thing to go- by! Needless to say we received the usual glowing
report
By the time these notes are printed we will have lost
Corporal Frank Jasper to the Petroleum Centre at West Moors
on promotion to Sergeant and Corporal Jim Sharrock to CSD
Bulford again on promotion to Sergeant. In their places we
welcome Corporals Stevens and Freeborn and their families
and wish them a happy stay with us,
In May we have 8 Supply Platoon RAOC TAVR visiting
us for their annual camp; after last years visit we are busy
preparing a list of Do's and Dont's!!
Now for something completely different, I have been asked
to mention the RAOC element of Headquarters Dortmund
Garrison. They consist of the Staff Assistant WOl Tony
Carton and Chief Clerk AQ Branch Sergeant Sid Siddiqui.
These two stalwarts fly the RAOC flag in a Garrison Head-
quarters which is otherwise a Gunner empire.
ACCOMMODATION SERVICES UNIT DORTMUND
Accommodation Services Unit Dortmund—a new title and al-
most a new Unit. By the time this article hits the streets,
two thirds of our military strength will have departed to
civilian life. Captain Frank Quinn—a candidate for two pen-
sions departs at his own request, and
Major Fred Curtis will
4
be preparing to go by taking the bricks and mortar' course
and to inflict himself upon our Social Security system! (I'm only
kidding Fred—he told me to say); our new arrival is Captain
Kip Gibson ex Vehicle Depot Ashchurcrn A sidestep by the
current AASO Corps Troops West, Major Geoff Hall (who
juggles two hats and six balls at the same time), tabes over as
our new Officer Commanding and thereby qualifies for a new
tour and a share in the Deutsche Bank. If we could only find
a way 1 to mention Captain Monty Wood who will be the
* oldest member we could have covered the whole unit—un-
fortunately he has maintained his usual low profile with the
outstation at Werl. Mr John Smith the CASO, like his garden,
has grown roots and despite drought and storm * soldiers on.'

BASSET HOUND PUPPIES FOR SALE
HEADQUARTERS
THE recent cool weather has
seen members of the Head-
quarters running around the
Peak, building themselves up
for the forthcoming BFTs.
It is only in Hong Kong
that one travels to the range
for annual classification. Our
Officers have finally passed,
which is a fine achievement considering the wobbly legs after
the wallah-wallah ride,
It is good to see Lieutenant Colonel Richardson out and
about again after his short spell in hospital.
We say farewell soon to our Chief Clerk* WOl Malcolm
Jenkins, who leaves us on commissioning. We wish him every
success in his future appointment.
We recently had t i e pleasure of being officially visited by
the Chief Fire Service Officer (Army), Mr Mitchell, who stayed
in Hong Kong for ten days, Mr Mitchell had no time to en-
joy the sights of Hong Kong, as he started work with Mr Tandy
our CFA, within two hours of stepping off the plane at Kai
Tak Airport, and they kept hard at it throughout, including
Saturday and most of Sunday; to the extent that the CFSOs
report on the visit was being tidied up not more than two hours
before he departed Hong Kong to the colder climes of UK.
Unfortunately, there was so much to see in the nature of
current and proposed reprovision building projects, that the
CFSO had no free time to enjoy this shoppers paradise, but
when he visits us again in 1979 we promise to give him the
weekend off at least!
FREDA BASSET wishes her friends in the Corps to know that
as a result of a successful liaison with Champion ' Blaby Hal,'
she produced on 1st March 1978 a litter of Champion Stock
Basset Hound puppies,
