THE visit of Her Majesty The Queen to the Corps at Bicester
is indeed welcome news; particularly in this year, which not
only marks the twenty fifth year of Her Majesty as our
Colonel-in-Chief, but also the Diamond Jubilee of the granting
of the title Royal to our Corps by her grandfather. King
George the Fifth.
The title was granted in 1918 in appreciation of, and I quote
T H E GAZETTE of the period, " Splendid services during the War."
It was conferred upon the Officers of Army Ordnance Depart-
ment and upon the Army Ordnance Corps which were, at the
same time, amalgamated to form the Royal Army Ordnance
Corps as we know it today.
Although the Royal Visit is on 16th May we hope to
include cover of it in issue due out on the first of June. By the
sixteenth of the month T H E GAZETTE is normally already in
4
paste u p ' form and back at the printers for proof printing,
printing and then distribution to the many corners of the world
your magazine finds itself in.
The difficult timing will present many problems in getting
T H E GAZETTE out even reasonably on schedule, particularly so
far as photographic blockmaking is concerned. Still we hope to
include at least a four page cover within T H E GAZETTE, though
there is little hope of producing a photograph of the event on
the front cover, certainly not in colour since this takes some two
weeks of block making and preparation after a suitable colour
photograph is in our hands and believe it or not, now costs some
£250 plus printing costs. A compromise is to design and pre-
prepare a commemorative cover which is the likely solution at
the time of going to press.
To wait until the July issue is really much too late,
even though the end product might be better. So the June
issue it is and, in a situation which relies upon so many people
before we get our hands on the copy, only one thing is certain—•
that we will do our best.

LANCE CORPORALS McMURDO AND POLLIN
of Ludgershall with their BV 202 Mk 2 Snowcat on
snow rescue work in Devon during the "West Country
blizzards. (See page 367.) Although the photograph
arrived rather late it has the requirements of a good
cover photograph; general interest and taken portrait
with a good clear space for the titles. Photographs of
groups, so often sent in, are difficult to use, even if good
quality, for this important reason.
