6th Field Force u m. T ^ ^^aJ^^ ^Vukfc* <^v(BflBm ^%^^Hcw •HPB^^^^ $Fr^ t w HEADQUARTERS WITH no exercises taking place during February and March life in the Head- quarters has been relatively quiet, How- ever, this quiet period gave us time to complete our Annual Range Classification, the n e w l Bas c Fit-io~Fight' » Fitness Test ana " thrown in between a couple of ten mile battle marches carrying forty pounds of equipment. Our CC Pay Services, Staff Sergeant Alec Milne, and new CC * G,' Sergeant Evan Douglas, look forward to these battle marches with ' great delight,' but are looking forward with even greater delight to the departures in May of the organisers of these marches, namely our Superintendent Clerk and Sergeant Bob Boughen. On the 17th March our Superintendent Clerk, WOl Wilf Wright, and Staff Sergeant George Willerton were presented with Long Service and Good Conduct Medals by the Force Com- mander, Brigadier Gray. The presentation took place in the Warrant Officers and Sergeants Mess. Good Conduct Medals, also to Lance Corporal and Mrs Ellis on the birth of a baby daughter, third time lucky for Pete it seems. Farewell to Corporal Colclough on leaving the Com- pany for Civvy Street, 'Tumble Down Dicks l * won't be the same without him. Also farewell to Corporal TafT * Owen on his posting to the Far East. Please Taff, let the navigator decide which route to take, it gets chilly wearing OGs in Antarctica. North East District Departures have been Staff Sergeant George Willerton to Headquarters 2 Division, Corporal Ian Noble to Headquarters NORTHAG in the acting rank of Sergeant—congratulations— and Lance Corporal Pat Carter to the NBC School. We welcome Staff Sergeant Dave Wolfe our new CC AQ from Headquarters 1 (BR) Corps. 50 ORDNANCE SUPPORT BAT- TALION have had their restructuring postponed for a few months and this has led to Major Rodney Brown taking an extended holiday in Middlesbrough away from his office in West Midland District We are most grateful to have him with us and will try not to spoil him. Fair Value continues to tick away ^ in the background like an unexploded bomb and COO's Management Services team from Thatcham are rapidly becoming part of our District scene. We have long passed the stage where the problem might go away and their planning and advice is very welcome. One good side effect can be seen already; the move of some Barlow stocks to Scorton means that the dreaded outside sales area at Barlow has been virtually cleared. It's an ill wind . . . Shortly in THE GAZETTE will appear an article on life at Leeds University by Lieutenant Jukes* who very kindly volun- teered to try his hand at authorship. Mind you, he hasn't asked for an interview with CRAOC again I We are now scouring the District for other talent. 6 FIELD FORCE ORDNANCE COMPANY SO it goes on, 'The Saga of Murphy and Dan.* Murphy's most recent accomplishment was chasing Dan round the Orderly Room in an attempt to remove a piece of off-white 'cotton waste' from the bottom of Dan's trousers. Somebody forgot to tell Murphy that the fluffy * cotton waste' was Dan's pet miniature poodle. The month began with all the Stores Vehicles in location on Hawley Common, taking part in a Logistic Demonstration. When a young man asked Corporal Chapman why the rear of the R and I wagon was covered by black curtains, he promptly replied, * Because the pink ones are in the laundry.' The young enquirer departed looking rather perplexed, I understand our lads in Londonderry don't share Corporal T * Taffy Owen's confidence in his map reading ability. After doing a patrol with * TaftY Private * Phil' Drysdale was heard to say, " It's a mystery to us where we are going Corporal, but I wish it wasn't such a mystery to you." We hear that Private ' Jock * McConnochie is now out of hospital after burning his hands whilst making a * fry up. 1 The sausages go in the pan Jock, the fingers stay out! Lance Corporal Brewster's request for skull polish for Private 'Andy' Curnow's bald head has been refused. Billiard chalk is being sent in lieu, Congratulations to W02 Alan Whiteley and Staff Sergeant Pete Mudway on the presentation of their Long Service and W 2 Ron Moore with his wife and family after being presented with the Long Service and Good Conduct Medal by the Deputy Commander, North East District. 1 W O l Wilf Wright receives his Long Service and Good Conduct Medal from Brigadier Gray 6th Field Force Commander* — 384 — |
